I came across this hidden gem after reading some reviews on Unilocal.My friend and I walked in on a Saturday afternoon hoping to get our brows cleaned and shaped. There was a line of 3 ladies ahead of us, so I took that as a good sign. Annie is great. She is quiet and painlessly works her magic in minutes. My brows looks fantastic.
The only odd thing was the «please knock» sign on the door. Every time I’ve been here there is only one woman working so, for safety reasons (I assume), she keeps the door locked… but even when clients are inside. So when a new client comes, they knock and she lets you in. I’m fine with this, but if she’s in the middle of threading a customer, I think it’s silly to stop to unlock (and relock) the door. Some clients will get up to let you in as well, but not always. Anyway, the results are great, so I deal with this foolishness.
The hours of operation aren’t posted, so a few times I’ve walked by and the shop has been closed. I learned that weekdays it opens at 11am. Also, cash is preferred (as the sign at the register reminds you), but credit is accepted.

Annie was quick and made my eyebrows look amazing. I keep eyebrows fuller since they are thinner or the ends and she did a fantastic job making them look groomed. I may go thinner next time, but this is definitely my new spot. The location is great also.

Annie is a miracle worker. So I’ve been to this place a few times, I went to one in VA when I was shopping with my mom and I’ve been to the chinatown location a few times. Its close to my house so it’s super convenient for me. Today she threaded my eyebrows and upper lip. She’s a MIRACLE worker. Somehow she makes my eyebrows look amazing. She’s quick handed and precise. You know she’s getting every stray hair. When she did my upper lip, it hurt a little at first. It was the first time I’ve ever had anything done to my upper lip hair. When she was done, my upper lip was as smooth as a baby’s bottom. I encourage everyone to go here.

Just had my brows done here and it was a good experience. This is a very convenient location (basement door by the way) and the woman working there was friendly. At around 11:50ish there were 2 people ahead of me, but she got them done quickly. My brows were growing in so much and I was scared that going to someone new would mess them up, but she did a great job just cleaning everything up and not changing my shape. Also, there was very minimal pain, unlike a lot of threading places. The only downside is that I think $ 15 for brows is really expensive. But I guess it’s worth the location and outcome.

Walked in randomly today after reading the reviews and thought I’d give it a try. I waited a few minutes and then was seen, nothing crazy. I have naturally flat eyebrows, and have had people be successful in giving them a little bit more shape when threading, so i asked the lady to please add a little arch to them. She said fine and started to work.
About 5 plucks on each eyebrow later she said ok done, and gave me a mirror. Literally nothing was different. She cleaned up some of the strays but that was it. When I looked confused she goes «no I can’t change natural shape». Ok. Fine. I get that you can’t give me eyebrows to my hair like, but I’ve had some people shape them at least a little. And you could have told me that before you started. I asked if she could thin them just a bit more and she told me no, and that «your eyebrows just don’t look good» that is the exact reason k came here, for you to fix them.
It felt that I was a big inconvenience for her and she rushed. And for $ 15 it wasn’t worth it at all. She was not forthcoming at all and told me i had ugly eyebrows. I won’t be coming back.

So, I’ve stopped going here, after finally realizing that every time I came here, I’d soon get large, *painful* pimples around the areas that had just been threaded. Ouch. I’ve stopped going here, and haven’t had any trouble since — I’ve gone back to waxing which, for all its faults, seems to work better for me.

Anna did an amazing job. My eyebrows are the perfect shape and thickness!!! While the exterior of this place is a bit off putting, the service is well worth it if you are in the area. Very fast and precise! She could not have done a better job!

Okay so I grew my eyebrows in and searched on Unilocal for a place that came highly recommended. The place was quite and clean. I instructed the lady to just clean the bottom because I like to keep my eyebrow thick. She decided to arch them to pencil thin, I told her I grew them in on purpose because the last person did them to thin and now I have to regrow them in again, she proceeded to tell me «but they look good!» When i got home my niece said I look like a Siamese cat.
I giving 2 stars for the environment and cleanliness.

Walked in for the first time and it’s a pretty dingey looking space. In a basement of a rowhouse on the edge of Chinatown. The salon is also very dirty… fruit flies flying around and could have used a sweeping. The mirror is so smudged with fingerprints it was hard to even make out what my brows looked like afterwards. They did spend a while on my brows and it was one of the more painless threading sessions I’ve ever had. The overall end result looks good, but the store was so dirty I probably will look for a different place to go to on a regular basis. $ 15 (+tip) for eyebrow threading isn’t cheap either.

I recently moved to DC and came here for threading because it’s close to my apartment and had good reviews. I had a very positive experience as well. I like my eyebrows thick and told the lady that before she started. She respected my request and only took off what she needed to to clean up the edges. I arrived about 30 minutes before closing on a Saturday, had no wait time, and was out in about 5 – 10 minutes.

Recently, I tried to tame my brows with my go-​to threader. The problem was she was no longer there. YIKES was the first thing that came to mind. Like I do most of the time, I unlocked my iPhone and pulled up Unilocal!I count on Unilocal to help me ALOT! Unilocalers said this place was good but the lady could be mean. I figured there were more positive things said than negative, so I gave her a shot. She was awesome on my brows. I told her I wanted them shaped and clean and not thin. My requests were granted and I left a happy girl! Now, to be fair, she is not the most talkative, but good brows can be done without all the conversation. I paid with my CC and did not receive any frowns or sighs. As the other Unilocalers noted, the door will be locked, but there are signs and when I went, she was sitting right in front of the door. I will surely be back and thanks again Unilocal!You all rock!!!

The place is unassuming, and the door is always locked (but there are enough signs taped to the door so you know to knock), but it’s in a great location and the price is reasonable. She did a great job and it didn’t take long at all. They prefer cash. Overall, I will be going again.

I’ve been here three times and each time it was a different person. I only remember one person’s name «Anna»? but all three threaders (is that their title??) gave me the arch I didn’t think could happen. I highly recommend this place because they are super quick (time in and out of the establishment: under 15 mins) and efficient (I didn’t have to go home to fix a stray hair ever!)
No appointment necessary. They do accept plastic, but cash is preferred. The location is pretty convenient, right down the street from the Gallery Place-​Chinatown metro stop; however, parking might not be as fun.

I have been to the Threads on U st and had a much better experience.
I came here because I was on Jury duty :-/​
During break I figured I should go ahead and get my brows whacked so I wouldn’t continue to frighten my poor fiancé… They were a mess.
So I make my way over to this Threads & the door is locked… But there is a lady in there. We clearly make eye contact but I guess I still needed to knock to make her aware that I am there for a reason.
She drags herself on over, opens the door and asks what I need… I tell her eyebrows and she points to the chair.
I sit and process to explain how I would like them to look… She looks at me like «child please»
Now the only reason I didn’t leave is because they were horrible…
Granted se did a good job, but her service sucked!!!
Threading companies are now popping up all over the place, customer service is important to me and I let the lady know that. She simply rung me up and handed me my receipt (after I had to ask). She said nothing and went back to her chair.
I ain’t never going back there! Wish I got her name

Well ummm I’m so confused? I just got back from Threads (Chinatown location) and my eyebrows have not been touched since I filled them in this morning. «WHY?» you ask? Well apparently Anna was eating lunch and could not do my eyebrows. On one hand, I know how I am when I don’t eat… and if she’s anything like me I wouldn’t want her to touch my eyebrows on an empty stomach! On the other hand… I JUST CALLED AND SAID I’D BE THERE WITHIN AN HOUR!!! She did not say «Well I’m about to eat so don’t come until X: XX time!» or «I go on lunch break at 3pm so sorry for ya»…NOTHING!!!
When I first got to the door it was locked… but there are signs (signs=post it notes) that say «Please knock if door is locked». So I knocked, although Anna was sitting right there looking at me like I was a selling vacuum cleaners. She sat in the chair… I stood at the door. She eventually opened the door, clearly annoyed that I had the audacity to come as she was about to eat:
Anna: «Come back I’m eating lunch.»
Me: (Uhhh…what??) «Ummm I’m at work?»
Anna: «well I’m about to eat. Come back in 10 minutes» (door closing… door closing)…
Me: «ummm I just came really quick from work»
Anna: «I’m the only one here. I’m eating. I leave at 7» (door closed)
Me: (to myself apparently «umm…ok»)
Unilocalers…when I say she was RUDE… SHE WAS RUDE!!! I stood there for a minute quite confused (as I am now). I’ve read other reviews where ppl have mention how the person (who I can only assume was her) is rude but really good, but I don’t think I’m going to chance it this time… I’m actually scared she’ll ruin my brows… then I’ll look permanently confused!!! YIKES!

The place stinks like B.O. and its hot inside. They had no change in the register but expressed a preference for cash. Anna was working and gave me a full face threading which is priced at 45 but decided to charge me 50 for reasons unknown to me. There is definitely a demand for her services because there was a line at 2 in the afternoon but ive had better services at a lower price. Plus, this place is so bootleg… the decorum is enough to turn me off. I think the lack of competition in the area is the explanation for their business, not because its a nice place or because Anna is anything special. I’d rather go the distance for better price and service. If consumers in DC demanded better, maybe we’d have better. This place would never survive in NYC or Miami. Yuck. First and last time.

My search for the perfect thread has finally, finally, FINAL-​LY come to an end…
«Anna» (which is the Americanized version of a name I cannot pronounce) gave me an amazing thread last week. I’m talking, hands-​down THE BEST thread ever. I settled into Anna’s chair and started my usual spiel…“I really would like a clean arch in my brows, but I’ve always been told by threaders that my brows are too thin to arch and can only curve a bit… yadda yadda yadda.” But Anna wasn’t at all persuaded. She just took one quick look and then got swiftly to work. Eight minutes and $ 15 dollars later, I had THE PERFECT arch in my ultra-​thin brows. So not only was this the absolute sharpest and cleanest thread I’ve ever had, but it also was relatively pain-​free. A well-​deserved 5 stars indeed!
(P.S. Note that cash is preferred. And since this place is in the heart of NW DC, I’d recommend taking the Metro instead of fighting for street parking or paying for an overpriced garage.)

They know what they’re doing here!
At a Unilocal Elite event back in September, some representatives from Threads were doing free samples. I had a mini-​session and made a mental note to actually go to one of their locations sometime. Well, too many months of me trying to manage my brows on my own passed, and I finally decided to seek out the pros at my closest Threads location (Chinatown!). I walked in around lunchtime on a weekday and took a seat with one other lady while another customer was getting threaded. There was just one woman working, and she was QUICK yet thorough. Despite being third in line, I felt like I hardly had to wait. The threader (totally forget her name, but she was very sweet, from Pakistan I believe) made my brows over in a matter of minutes. For the first couple of days I thought they were a little too thin for my face, but I grew to love them (and got several compliments).
Fast, low on pain, cheap, clean.

This is now the only place that I get my eyebrows threaded in DC.
I’ve tried the Dupont location four or five times but the women there were always so short with me that I’ve given up. I’ve also tried Georgetown Electrolysis and Skincare and V Nails and Spa in Columbia Heights, but neither of them have given me the consistent results that I’ve gotten from Anna. (Plus the girl at Georgetown was very rude to me when I was there, which turned me off before the threading had even begun. If I’m paying a premium for a service, I expect just that: service. That service experience includes every minute of my presence in your establishment. Also, I had little scabs under my brows for a few days after I left. My eyebrows admittedly looked fabulous, but those cuts beneath them did not.)
Anna threaded the shape back into my eyebrows and I’ve only had to ask her to correct a few missed hairs twice in the 4 months that I’ve been going there. I highly recommend her.
They prefer cash so keep that in mind when you come. They do take cards, however.

She threaded the arch out of my eyebrows and now I look like a Muppet. :-/
