Oh man, that turtle. How did I ever fit under that thing? It’s so small! Went here with my new niece and enjoyed watching her toddling around. From personal experience, I’m sure she also thinks that’s one of the best parts of the day. Still tons of kids, tons of parents talking about their careers, and lots of fun to be had on/around/under the turtle. If you grow up in NW, the turtle will be one of your memories, although I remember it being more angular… it’s been a long time.

Friendship Park is known as «Turtle Park,» given its large sandbox with kid-friendly, stationary ceramic turtles. It is also one of the 7 wonders of the DC government– one of those surprising over-the-top feats of excellence that we common citizens would never expect. The people who plow streets need to talk to the people who design playgrounds for small children. Amenities include: * a large sandbox with buckets and shovels * fred-flinstone style toddler vehicles, randomly strewn about the premises * a stationary train with 3 separate cars(all kid-sized). * 2 state-of-the-art jungle gyms. one has a tire obstacle course. both have slides. they are generally low to the ground, perfect for 2 – 5 year old children. * 2 regular swings, and 4 toddler swings. Going off my intuition — at least 70% of the mothers at this park have an advanced degree and have critically interacted with the Tiger Mom book. The children at Turtle Park also appear to consume organic eggs and pesticide-free produce.
