U-Haul Moving & Storage of Intown

Have visited many U-​Haul storage centers, but this is among the best. The staff were especially helpful and courteous (thank you to Kareem and Brooks!), from parking the truck in the loading dock, to finding the right storage unit, to all the other details of renting a storage unit and returning a truck.
Just be sure to save your back and hire some movers if you really need to. It’s worth it!

I’ve rented from here twice in the past few weeks. Once, it was for a move, and once was for picking up furniture. Everyone is kind and will get you in and out quickly. Bonus: I left a really expensive (as far as umbrellas go) umbrella in my truck and they saved it for me in the lost and found! They always seem to have all varieties of vehicle available, even on short notice.

I would give a better rating if there had been decent customer service when we arrived to pick up our truck rental. They were nice when they called on the phone to confirm the pick up time and date which they did I had of time. The truck was nice and clean and in good condition. However the counter service was the worst! The young woman mumbled in audibly — we could barely hear her. She gave no information unless asked and then she would just shake her head yes or no. She grabbed the keys and headed for the door and I asked if I could purchase two items that I had put on the counter. She rolled her eyes and came back and ring up the purchase — we could have just walked off with them! After that, she grab the keys and ran out the door — we didn’t know whether to follow her or where she was going! Terrible interaction!

The staff was helpful and easy to work with. Their location really made moving into Georgetown easy. There is a Home Depot close and a convenient eating options. Look for the short cut stair access to Rhode Island directly 90 degrees to your left as you leave the RI metro.

Not very polite or professional, minor mix ups. Price escalated quickly from «19.95» to $ 80 for 2 hours

This is not the greatest neighborhood of all time, but the Uhaul guys are pretty much as good as it gets. I stopped in to get a trailer. I was in and out in a couple of minutes. I also had to deal with some hitch issues with my vehicle and they Uhaul guys helped. There was an auto zone next door that had a couple things we needed, got it all fixed up and ready to go in no time flat! I was impressed. The only problem here are the other customers who have all sorts of registration issues. Before you come in, know what you need as far as moving products, pre-​register on the website if you can, and make sure you know your license plate number if you are renting a trailer. Altogether this was a great experience.

My experience here was great. We’d scheduled to drop off our truck and store our stuff at the K Street U-​Haul location, but the lockers there weren’t big enough for all of our things. By the time got to this U-​Haul we were worn out and just wanted to get everything over and done with. Everyone was nice, polite and genuinely helpful.
They got us an appropriately sized storage space, applied the discount we’d signed up for at the K Street location without us even asking for it, and set it up so we could just leave the truck with them instead of driving it back to the K Street U-​Haul where we’d originally planned on leaving it. We were really not in a good state at that point in our move, and the people at this U-​Haul did everything they could to make everything go as smoothly as possible.

I have rented from these folks a few times over the last couple years. It started out that the service was acceptable, if a little surly. But each time in the last two years, it has gotten better. This last time was last weekend. The owner went out of his way to make sure I was OK with the truck. When I pointed out a little water in «Mom’s Attic» he offered some moving blanket rentals for free to make up for it and protect my property. I bought a few extra things, which they carried out to my truck without asking. When I returned the truck, they were very courteous. On the check in and check out I was processed without waiting at all. The truck was clean in front and back. This place has come a long way.

Full of rats. Staff is incompetent and incapable.

Tried to reserve from this place twice. The first time is was like talking to a wall. Couldn’t get answers, and eventually just hung up. Called K St., and everything went really well.
The second time, I called early and reserved a truck — gave them my card number and everything. They called the day before (!) my pick up and said «we don’t have a truck for you. There’s one out in Maryland you can go get. Thanks.»
Screw these guys.
K St. crew said it best: «Sorry, sir. We wouldn’t do that.»

HORRIBLE! I rented a unit from them and they are TERRIBLE. When I went to open my unit the other day, it was FILLED with rat feces and urine. They had chewed everything up and pissed all over. Almost everything I had in storage was ruined. When I talked to Joe, who wore a «general manager» shirt but claimed not to be the general manager, he was rude and completely unhelpful. Most of the employees were just sitting around smoking all the time (despite claiming that it was their busiest day). Calls were not returned and the entire experience was horrible. I wasted thousands of dollars storing my stuff in a literal shit hole. Joe refused to be helpful in anyway, and when asked about it, his response was «yea, that happens sometimes». They wouldn’t do anything to help me, and were going to charge a fee to clean up their own mess. Just a terrible facility that is not clean in anyway, and the staff is completely useless. NEVER USE THEM!

Ok. I have moved A LOT in this city. And I always seem to bribe friends and family to help, so I feel like i have become a bit of an expert in truck rentals in the DC area. Manager Joe and his staff were wonderful. From beginning to end. Full disclosure: I picked literally one of the most miserable, hottest days of the year, I certainly was in a mood when I walked in. Immediately I whined that I wish I could have picked up the truck earlier, that I had called the evening before an no one answered. The manager was extremely apologetic and told me not many people were working the night before and that I must have missed them, as that would have been no problem at all. Oh well, moving in the heat of the day wont be THAT bad? The van reservation was only supposed to be for 4 hrs max, but due to the heat, the manager told us to take our time and just call us if we think we were going to go over on time. And we did. and they were totally cool with it, as the move took us 8 BRUTALLY LONG HOURS. The van we had was brand spanking new, beyond clean and ran like a charm. The return to pick-​up was seamless, I did not have to worry about additional hidden fees that seem to always pop up when you rent a vehicle from somewhere (suddenly your $ 30 rental is like $ 80, what gives!!!). Professional and courteous staff, the only downside is the location– parking is a bit dicey.

HORRIBLE!!! HORRIBLE!!! HORRIBLE!!! We paid for a dollie which just happened to be broken. Then we found out that the truck that we rented didn’t have a ramp to put things on truck with. So the next day when I spoke to the U-​Haul guy, he told me that 10′ trucks didn’t come with ramps. WOW! I have moved a MANY of times and NOT ONE TIME have I rented a 10′ truck that didn’t have a ramp. But per him — apparently that is U-Haul’s policy to give trucks w/​no ramps. Then when I told him the dollie was broken, he acted as if it was my fault and didn’t seem to want to refund the additional cost for us to have a non-​functioning dollie. Eventually he removed the charges, but as for me… this U-​Haul is a NO-​GO!!!

This was my first time renting a U-​Haul for a move since I’ve only used professional moving services in the past. After this experience, I wish I had been able to use U-​Haul for my previous moves.
My two roommates and I got a 17′ truck for our move to a new house that was only 2.5 miles away from our last group house. Altogether, we only paid $ 67 to use the truck for 8 hours. (You can keep the truck for 24 hours for a flat rate; they only charge additional for mileage.)
My only complaint about this location was the long wait to pick up the truck. There was only one guy working the counter on a busy Saturday morning. We were already running behind on time due to delays with the Metro. When we returned to drop off the truck, there was also a bit of a wait even though there were now two employees at the counter. Other than that, the truck was clean, in good condition, and the employees were friendly and pleasant.

Disgusting! Rat feces everywhere. My husband and I stored our guest bedroom furniture and kitchen table here. When we went to pick it up, there was rat feces and urine all over our furniture. Despite having rat traps, this storage facility has an infestation. We’re reporting to the better business bureau and recommending health code inspection.

The website says this location opens at 7am. I arived at 7:30 to find the location not open and 6 people waiting outside in 36 degree weather because the door also says they open at 7am. The automatic phone system doesn’t work properly so good luck with calling to get accurate information as well. U-​haul across the board has some of the wost customer service of any major company around, and this location makes no exceptions to that rule. I’m sure everyone’s day and schedule is being thrown off because of this. I guess the only thing left to do is try to find the corporate number and make a complaint. That may not make a difference, but I won’t know unless I do it. (Written winter 2009 – 2010)

Although I think this location provides decent, affordable storage with staff that are as courteous as you should expect, I must give them 1 star because of their refusal to correct a billing mistake that cost me extra money. Upon renting a unit, staff offered to charge my monthly bill to my credit card automatically. They didn’t do it correctly, however, and my next month’s bill was never charged to my credit card. When I next arrived to get my stuff out of storage, I was not allowed in until I paid one month’s rent plus a late fee. Although I argued that the late payment was their fault, they said that their system was incapable of reversing the late fee, and I would have to contact their corporate office. Corporate has ignored me.
