Closed to the public — and not a soul in sight. Five lovely tennis courts — empty & locked(at 4 pm on this nice spring Sunday afternoon). For shame. What a waste. The community should keep this in mind when considering whether to support or oppose UDC’s construction & other projects, as well as in deciding which local non-profits to support. Why doesn’t UDC let the public use these courts — at least, on a registration basis(possibly for a small annual fee)?

What happened!!! the gates are locked now. At the end of August the courts were resurfaced but locked to the public. Booo!

People are ALWAYS playing tennis on these courts. When I’m walking home from the metro after work, there is usually a line of eager people waiting with tennis rackets in hand. These courts are free, and from what I’ve seen — never used for any sort of official sports team. Seriously, the stream of active tennis people starts around 8 a.m. every day and ends around 10 p.m. The good times to visit are either before work during the weekdays, or later in the evening. On weekends, it’s anything goes. There are lights on the court if you’re a night owl, and you don’t have to worry about walking to the metro because it’s about a block away and the neighborhood is safe.
