Good iced coffee, a bit weak. Snickerdoodle muffin looked better than it tasted, and was pretty expensive. Friendly cashier.

The muffins are a nice treat, would love to go back. I really enjoy the bacon and egg which is savory. The muffins are pretty standard price for DC, but I wouldn’t be able to go every day as its too expensive for that. The Veggie Muffin will surely turn any bad day around

They gave me a free lemon poppy seed muffin just because I’m a service member. It was delicious and I’m very thankful! I came back and had a chocolate chip muffin which they heated up for me and that was just as delicious. Plus the inside has a great atmosphere with comfy couches and plenty of table space to do whatever studying or work you need to get done during your visit.

It was cool. I had the strawberries & cream muffin, which they said is one of their top sellers. It was pretty good but not great. A little messy, a little too similar to a cupcake for a muffin. Maybe I’ll come back n try the savory ones — the bacon muffin looked alright. Then again, $ 4 for a regular sized muffin is a little much, even for a hipster DC café. I had some work to do, and this wasn’t really an optimal place for it. I do like the windows and openness of the place and outside, but the tables make it really hard to do work on a laptop. They’re too low — like knee-high. I ended up putting my laptop on my thighs because my back was hurting from leaning forward. There’s a bar area in which you can work, but it’s directly overlooking the workers behind the register & in the kitchen, making it a bit awkward. Pros: Comfy chairs n couches. Good wifi. Nice playlist.

This place was everything I hoped it would be. I have been following this business on social media for a while during my time out of state. I heard nothing but great things about their muffins, but I needed to try for myself. We went to Funk fest this weekend and found a parking spot right outside of uprising(miracle I know!). I decided to stop in and get a snack since we’d be walking around. They were almost sold out of muffins but had 4 or 5 options available. I went for the Lemon poppy seed which was still warm from coming out of the oven. They had free water available and wonderful seating options. I took one bite and wanted to cry. The muffin was pure perfection and a little taste of heaven. I demolished every morsel and wanted to go and buy another as I was sitting there absorbing what I had just experienced. Looking forward to going back and trying other muffins especially the breakfast muffins and coffee. This place deserves all the praise.

I really wanted to love Uprising Muffin Co. but my savory muffin and experience were pretty average. I came here right when it opened at 7am. Muffin racks were fully stocked, and only two other customers were there. Good thing I looked at the website and knew which flavor I wanted ahead of time because there was no indication of the menu flavors otherwise. Service was pretty low-key. The shop was just opening, it was pretty quiet, and the weather outside was dreary. All things considered, it felt like the shop(and service) was just waking up. I ordered the savory tomato, spinach, and Parmesan muffin($ 3.50 muffin + tax = $ 3.85). I was so happy to get a freshly baked, still warm, savory muffin, but when I opened my bag, the muffin was upside down :(. Little travel was involved — I went from the counter to the couch, so I really think it was bagged that way. The couches are comfy, but can get awkward quickly if the place gets too crowded and you’re one of those people who like their personal space. Sadly, my savory muffin did not live up to my expectations. There were literally two pieces of tomato and one leaf of spinach in my muffin(muffin pictured — you be the judge). I also didn’t taste any Parmesan. Once the tomato bits and spinach were eaten(gone in three small bites), it was basically like eating a corn muffin. The muffin was light and moist, but I was still hungry afterward. For a nearly $ 4 muffin, I thought the size was small and it’s not dense enough for just one to be filling. I debated getting a second but decided against it. I also don’t think the ingredients that went into the batter were incorporated well, because every now and then I would get a burst of pepper, but not consistently. I won’t be going out of my way to come back to Uprising Muffin Co., but if I did find myself in the Shaw neighborhood again and needed breakfast(like I did today), I wouldn’t mind popping in and giving Uprising another shot — but next time I’ll try a sweet muffin. Tip: Make sure you get a receipt(printed or emailed) because it has important stuff on it like: 1) WiFi password and 2) bathroom code.

I got a great response from the owner. I am updating my review because I believe he’s a good person that cares about his customers and wants to make it right. I will give Uprising another go! Thanks Donnie!

Awesome place for a meet up or a coffee break right off of the metro or before hopping on. Tables, chairs, and a grand bar. They won’t sling booze across the counter, but a great espresso drink. I haven’t tried one yet, because I came for the muffinsssssssssss!!! So little options were offered around lunch time. Maybe four kinds were available and espresso drinks. Tis’ all. Nice large windows, modern design and layout and all was quiet when I visited as it seemed most people were having a working coffee break. Not much else seemed to be offered at least from the menus that I saw posted. I was kind of sad to see the small variety of muffins and so few of them offered. I did try the lemon poppyseed — fresh and tasty and I would have loved a bit more of that tangy lemon coating on top! I will definitely be back to try a drink and hopefully see that more muffins or food fare offered.

Stop it. Just stop it. It’s great that DC is full of millennials with enough disposable income to waste on things like muffins from muffin stores. But they’re the most awesome muffins ever, you say! No, they are not. Are they good? Sure, but they are not $ 3.00-$ 3.50 good. And that’s a problem. I finally got a chance to pick up a couple of these works of art before they closed. Granted, I bought them near the end of the day and ate them that night without heating them up. But I have to say that they just a little tougher than I would have liked or expected. Maybe microwaving would have helped? But I think that using a softer flour in the recipe would have helped more. And flavor-wise, I really wasn’t impressed either. My chocolate chip muffin had plenty of chocolate chips(maybe too many), but other then that, the muffin had no taste. Same with my snickerdoodle muffin. The problem here is that the muffins need to be(a little) sweeter and that they need to have more vanilla extract in them. Those two things would really bring up the flavor. And yes, I am busting on them for having $ 3.00 muffins($ 17 for a six pack!). But why should cupcake places get scorn for overcharging for baked goods and not a muffin place? These are products that are very reminiscent of the(good) muffins at Shopper’s Food Warehouse at almost three times the cost. Just stop it.

Love the location; it was so close to my first accommodations and its right by the Shaw metro stop. I also love the name and the place itself. Cute and open, the muffins are located behind the cash registers in their own little compartments sorted by flavors. Seating is decent but we were a party of 8 so we were separated and there were people already there talking and doing work. It was a Monday morning at around 9. The employees were really helpful and friendly! We got an assortment: tomato, egg, & Parmesan, lemon poppy, blueberry, maple pancake, marble… My omnivorous friend also got the cheddar, bacon and egg(she got another one because she liked it so much). They were all good! I liked my savory muffin(it was my first savory muffin) and was ecstatic that they didn’t put any onion/garlic in it because I wouldn’t have been able to eat it otherwise. The Parmesan wasn’t the most obvious though. The muffin part was soft, probably due to the moisture content if the tomatoes. I tried the maple pancake(delicious!) but I thought the lemon poppy seed was just okay. I now want to try the pumpkin, but my new accommodations are a bit farther… A great place to get a bite in the morning(or throughout the day because muffins are an all-day thing) with excellent customer service. It’s also quiet enough with comfy armchairs to work at and counter space if you want to set up your work station on a hard surface. I didn’t make a note of outlets so I can’t really comment on that though.

Decided to try this place since I was in the area and based off of the reviews on here. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I was excited to try the muffins but majority of them were sold out so I was pretty bummed about that lol. I decided to try the Roasted Turkey BLT sandwich. It was ehhh, greasy and not much turkey or bacon was on the sandwich. I was expecting my sandwich to be more put together. I did like the rewards incentive and will probably come back to try their muffins.

I’m updating my previous review. After, my last review, the owner contacted to me to discuss further why my experience was subpar. I explained to him and was informed that he prides himself on having stellar customer service. I would agree, since I have come by three times since and I will say that the atmosphere is different, for the better. This is why I prefer to patronize small businesses because the owners have an invested interest in building positive relationships with the surrounding community. Great hot drinks + Tasty muffins + Good customer service = A happy returning customer.

It was OK. The muffins nor the latte were that memorable. What I liked about this place is the location, the art, and the vibe. That was pretty much it. They close too early on a Sunday in a University neighborhood in my opinion. I would say the service is average; again, nothing memorable. The store was definitely clean and it was busy when I arrived on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm. The seats, couches, décor were all funky and comfortably.(funky as in cool and not funky as in stanky!) Nothing more I can say honestly. I don’t think I will be back though.

Muffins are crispy on the edges and moist in middle. That’s how a muffin should be. Great place for a meeting or to get work done.

This place is my absolute gem of a neighborhood coffee /breakfast spot. They make both savory and sweet muffins daily– so you know what you’re getting is always going to be fresh, none of that«how many days old» stuff here. Also, they earn your muffins up if you like! The coffee here is strong, like jet fuel strong, but it’s all about those muffins. The bacon, egg & cheese and the tomato, basil & parm are my go to orders. But I’ve also had their blueberry, pumpkin, and apple. The thing about coming here is that a muffin will keep you full for a good while, it’s the real deal. The space has nice seating inside and a few outdoor table spots as well. It can get noisy so not sure about work ability at this spot, but definitely worth a visit!

I’d been trying to get here since it opened so I’m glad I made the time to get up with a friend on an early Sunday morning. Cute cute cute and the barista and cashier were both very welcoming. I came hungry and was a little disappointed to find out that the ‘Upwich’ muffin ice cream sandwich is a summer thing. Damn. But I understand. Instead I had the savory bacon, egg, and cheddar muffin along with a cream cheese streusel muffin-delicious! They’re pricey, as can be expected but I’ll definitely be back. And as if I needed another reason to look forward to summer, I’ve got one in the Upwich :-P

Uprising Muffin Company — I love your delicious muffins! This little DC-based muffin company has been around since ’10 and boasts in making their batches with 10 ingredients or less, all from scratch, with no preservatives/artificial colors. I love how at the end of the day, when there are any muffins left over, UMC donates them to those who are less fortunate(HEART). Besides the freshly-baked muffins(there are even savories and ‘special’ batches, too!), there are also coffee beverages, sandwiches, and salads. I went later in the day, so most of their flavors had run out T___T However, I was lucky that a fresh batch was baking and was coming out in about 20 minutes — I decided to wait! I tried the Lemon Poppy Seed, which was made with real lemons, lemon zest, tons of poppy seeds, and topped with a luscious lemon glaze. This was absolutely delicious!!! Because it was literally hot out of the oven, I think that added another crazy goodness layer to it. The muffin itself was sooo soft and the perfect amount of moistness within; the lemon glaze on top added a lovely citrus taste to it all, and I just wished there were more more more!!! The size was pretty generous, too, and I gobbled this baby up! Lionel, one of the staff members, was super sweet and super friendly — he was absolutely terrific! I definitely want to come back and try out their other flavors, such as the ever-so-popular Savory Bacon, Egg and Cheddar, the Sweet Potato, the Maple Pancake, and the Raspberry! Forget about cupcakes — I’m all about these muffins now! :D +Lemon Poppy Seed muffin: D +wait for the fresh-out-of-the-oven batch, if you’re lucky!!! :D +ask for Lionel: D +limited metered street parking on 7th

First time was a poor experience. The nice staff and establishment potential welcome another visit. ********** Stuffed my face in: 1. Coffee cake — Too sweet Constructive comments: *Option for compost *Sustainable sourcing and practices

This place wasn’t even on my radar, until… There we were, riding up the escalator at the northern exit of the Shaw Metro station. As we were rising up, there is was, like a beacon, calling to me… Uprising Muffin Company! And I couldn’t resist stopping in. My husband wasn’t too crazy about the idea of getting a muffin and told me to just get one for myself. I paid him no mind. Then I chose a coffee cake muffin for me and a cranberry orange one for him. Later, when we got home, we had some tea and each of us ate half of our muffin, leaving the other half for the next day. One bite into his muffin, and my husband was a believer! One bite into my muffin and I was so glad that we stopped in! That coffee cake muffin was better than any coffee cake I ever had, let alone any muffin at all! The cake part was light, moist and incredibly flavorful. The streusel topping was perfect — applied just right. In other words, the topping also was moist and there was just enough to add flavor. Some coffee cakes go overboard with the streusel topping which causes it to fall off the muffin plus it can be incredibly dry. Uprising Muffin Company also mixes in some of the topping into the cake part. The end result — an amazing muffin! My husband raved about his cranberry orange muffin. His muffin, also, was light and moist with a generous amount of cranberries in it. He did say that the orange zest which is added to it, was not very strong. We both wished that we had bought even more muffins! In fact, we even started planning as to when we could get back there to buy more! Yeah, they were that good. So, this past Saturday we decided to have dinner at Bistro Bohem but first stopped into Uprising Muffin. This time we bought a half dozen. The same nice woman that waited on us the first time was there. We ended up getting 2 coffee cake muffins, 2 cranberry orange, 1 pumpkin and 1 blueberry. Our bag drew the attention of one of the servers at Bistro Bohem, who told us how much she loved Uprising’s muffins! As for the blueberry one — my husband had that one. He really liked the cake part and his only criticism(if you could call it that) was that he thought that there should have been more blueberries in it. Still, he said that it was the best blueberry muffin he ever had. As for the pumpkin one — I had that one. First of all, I was impressed that Uprising offers up pumpkin muffins year round. Most places only serve them in the fall. This muffin was light and moist with good pumpkin flavor. However, between that one and the coffee cake, the coffee cake one was my favorite — which is not a slam on the pumpkin one. The second time we were there, we also picked up a bottle of Perrier water and sat for a while. They have a nice seating area which has a mix of tables and chairs as well as some couches and living room chairs along with coffee tables. Get there at the right time, and it is a nice, quiet place to linger for a while. All that said, we’ve never tried the breakfast muffin — and seriously doubt that we ever will as they sell out quickly soon after they open. So I can’t speak as to how they are. Well…we ate the half dozen muffins and are wishing that we had more LOL! So… time to plan another trip that includes dinner plus a stop at Uprising Muffins.

I am so surprised there hasn’t been any mention of the Upwich yet! I made a special trip just for the delicious, wonderfully creative, and easy to eat treat. A big scoop of vanilla ice cream is sandwiched between two moist chocolate chip muffin tops for $ 4.99 and when I came this afternoon a few minutes before 4 pm, service was friendly and welcoming, seating was a plenty, music was chill, and my ice cream sandwich was a heavenly godsend. What a magnificent creation to enjoy on a warm day. My one recommendation is to freeze it a bit more. Sure, it’s easy to eat the soft muffin tops, but the ice cream was melting faster than I could keep up with. Since I sat on one of the leather couches, I was careful not to make a mess but my bites were uneven and towards the end, I had to be strategic about my last moments with the #besticecreamsandwichever. I also liked how many chocolate chips there were and how decadent the vanilla ice cream was. I quickly devoured this treat and wanted to go up to the counter to thank the people working behind it and express my gratitude for coming up with the concept but didn’t want to be that girl so instead I am sharing the find with you and encourage you to give it a try. They have free water which is a nice way to finish your muffins and ice cream sandwiches. They do POS tipping and I did take a second to see if I could pick something else but didn’t think I could find anything besides the 15%, 18% and 20% options, FYI.
