I am reviewing this for the food — not the bar. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, wings, and fries. The burger was only OK. I had asked for no BBQ sauce, and it came with BBQ sauce. The fries are not good. Just. Not good. The wings are horrible. Don’t waste your money. Again, can’t speak for the bar scene here but the food is just not good at all. Very disappointing.

Re-branded as gay bar, Uproar is a great escape from the normal scene of Nellies, JRs, Cobalt and Town. Even better, Uproar has a fantastic third floor deck that will quickly become a staple of summer time drinking. The second floor constantly is playing music videos that you can help DJ, thanks to an online system for all your dance hit needs. Maybe just don’t play My Heart Will Go On.(A mistake a kickball friend made…) I can’t attest to the food, but know that the drinks had a heavy pour just the way I enjoy them and the setting allows for a Saturday or Sunday fun-day for the books.

This is a pretty great place. I don’t know when previous reviewers came. The lightning is actually great. It’s very easy to see. The service is fast and staff is friendly. I’ve been twice and food always comes out very quickly. Also it’s not rebranded Asian food. It’s a small plate shareable set up. We’ve had, over two trips: gumbo, wings, pot stickers, sliders, catfish fingers, and tamales. The food is very reasonably priced. The options we ordered ranged from $ 6 – 10. There are two floors and a rooftop bar. The place has a good vibe and great music. It’s a great neighborhood spot.

Uproar is an Asian restaurant that decided to pivot and re-brand as a bear bar. They did not do a very good job with the transition. It does not seem like they put in much effort in changing the décor besides changing the sign out front. The bar is downstairs, dining area on second floor, and an open roof-deck third floor. The downstairs bar area is narrow and not really that comfortable to hang out if you do not have a seat. Seems like they are just hoping they can get in on the popularity of the nearby gay bars. Plenty of better options nearby.

We’ve hit up UpRoar a few times since they’ve opened. Like a lot of new establishments, they’re still working out staffing kinks, etc. but I thought the service was friendly and attentive. Our food came out less than 10 minutes after ordering and someone was constantly refilling waters, taking up used plates, wiping off the table, etc. Their wings are some of the best in the city. Another night we tried the UpRoar sliders which were ok, and the tacos were a little vinegary but we gave our feedback to the waitress and they immediately asked what they could do to improve. Speaking of, we’ve meet the the owner and managers and each time we’ve made a suggestion on food, drinks, even music selections… We’ve seen changes when we’ve gone back. So to all you Bitter Bettys who love to bitch on Unilocal, next time, ask to speak to one of the managers and give them constructive feedback, you just might be surprised that they’ll go out of their way to make things right for you. PS– the owner, managers, and staff are all super friendly. This is definitely going to be a fun hang out for bears and everyone else in the community!

My friends, my husband, and I were like«let’s go check out a new gay bar!» We all bundled up for the cold weather and met each other at Uproar. At first glance, we were like, «oh» because it’s a really small bar and it’s really dark which is definitely not Deaf-friendly. We all went upstairs to have dinner. The menu offered some decent selection. However, when my party was ordering, we were told, «that’s not available right now until a later time». So, wait, this is a brand new bar and you are offering food that you don’t even have??? O… k! After some changes, we finally got our food. Uhm, the food arrived cold. Some of us didn’t even have a second bite or finish it up. The waiter took forever refilling our drinks or bringing the check. You’d think he was serving 100 tables but he was only serving 2 tables. Afterwards, we headed back downstairs for drinks. We all looked at each other and decided that Nellie’s, a gay sports bar about 2 blocks down, was a better option and off we went. Uproar already needs some sprucing up to do.

Uproar is DC’s new bear bar that just opened in January. The owners have put in a lot of time, money, and effort into it and it shows. It has 3 levels: a bar on the first floor, dining on the second floor, and a rooftop deck with another bar. It is very clean, the drinks are very reasonably priced(especially considering that they carry higher quality rails than all other bars I’ve been to). The current rail vodka is Smirnoff — not too shabby. The food is very tasty as well. It’s a new place, so be patient with the service and you’ll be fine. The owners are attentive and very kind, working behind the bar and waiting tables as well. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Give it a try!

Where do I start? Walk in. Stand at the bar for 5 minutes. Before we are acknowledged. We were told dinners upstairs. So we went up and say for 15 minutes. Never acknowledged, never saw anyone. The bartender sent us up. Our friends arrived and are here now. Still no acknowledgement. I called restaurant phone number. No answer. Guess we will leave!
