Dr. Gianelli is a fantastic doctor who takes the time to answer any questions you have and thoroughly explain everything. I’ve been to him multiple times and its always as pleasant an experience as a doctor visit can be.
Like others who have left reviews, I too had to pay a co-​pay. But since my IQ is higher than that of a toddler I’m fully aware of how insurance works and what mine covers so there was no surprise there.
The office staff is also very helpful and accommodating. I can’t imagine how horrible of a person you must be to catch an attitude fom any of them. Bonus: the office manager is a smokeshow.

Appreciate Dr. Giannelli fitting me in and he seems like a good doctor. The 35 minute wait is pretty standard though. The walls are also very thin so I can hear all his conversations with other patients.
He seems very thorough and very competent.
Overall I like him and will return.

Waited 40 minutes to see him. There is nothing that irritates me more than a doctor who thinks that his/​her time is more valuable than mine.
Dear Doc: Don’t schedule so many people if you are going to make them wait this long to see you.

Overall, I’ve been really happy with Dr Giannelli and his staff. I’ve been to the office a few times over the years, and each time felt like I was receiving expert services and being treated professionally. Office staff were always friendly and the billing (and handling of referrals) has never been an issue. More recently, I have been seen by Jill, who is a PA there, and who is fantastic. She always takes a lot of time to listen, explain, answer questions and ask if there are any other dermatological issues I want to discuss. I always feel like she has my best interests at heart and isn’t trying to push me out the door. Giannelli too comes off as concerned and interested in helping. Despite the fact that he is always on the top doctors (Washingtonian) list and has hospital privileges at a number of hospitals and affiliations with a number of local medical schools, he never comes off as pompous. Moreover, a few years ago, I was beginning to really notice new wrinkles and in a moment of insecurity, while in his office for a non-​cosmetic issue, I inquired about Botox and fillers. I’ll always feel grateful to and trust him for saying that I didn’t need them and that my lines were all «happy lines», but if I wanted to get cosmetic treatments, he would be glad to oblige. I didn’t, and was glad to hear him not go for the sell.
The only negative experience I have had was where it took a few weeks and 2 – 3 phone calls to get results of a biopsy when I had been told it would take about a week, but that is a drop in the bucket in comparison to the level of patient care and knowledge exhibited by the practitioners in this office. And latest bonus is that they have online patient records, so they can transmit your prescriptions immediately to the pharmacy of your choice, and ultimately, you can access more information on your visits (once those modules have been activated.) Overall, I recommend this practice.

I am so surprised by all the negative reviews of Dr. Gianelli’s office. I have never had anything but good to great experiences with Dr. Gianelli, the PA Jill, the nursing staff, and the front desk staff. In addition, I’ve never had a bill that required follow-​up or resolution. Appointments are a breeze to make and everyone is professional, positive, and courteous.

LOOKING FOR A HELPFUL, KIND DOCTOR who really listens to you & has a warm bedside manner? Go somewhere else! I have seen this doctor twice & he is dreadful to deal with, distant & dismissive. He MIGHT be a very good doctor: HE certainly thinks he is. This pompous, inarticulate man is full of himself & talks nonstop, never even saying hello or asking why you are there — never asking ANY question. He never listens. To get him to listen you must interrupt his mysterious prattle. When he is finished talking, he & his assistant pull their signature move: He points you into a different office. When you get in there, you realize that he is not coming! Your appointment is over! He has ditched you for the next patient & left you with his assistant. She is as sweet as saccharine and condescending as hell. She plays good cop to his bad cop. What an act! Not ready for prime time but perfect for maximizing income. When I told Jill that I found it rude that Dr. Giannelli did not deign me important enough to listen to any further, she replied with a cheerful smile: «Welcome to the world of modern medicine!» Well, I know modern medicine: I am very ill with an unrelated disease & also disabled, & I know what good doctors are like. I adore my primary care physician, my neurologist & my neurosurgeon. They are professional. In comparison, I was so rattled by this treatment I left without asking two questions I came in with! Oh, and get this: The first time I went there, I got there on time. Every chair was taken by patients waiting. Guess what? Every one of them was in front of me! Please note: Most of the eloquent & helpful negative reviews that give Dr. Giannelli just one star have been deemed not important enough to include by Unilocal,which makes Dr. Giannelli’s practice look much better than it really is. So I do not know if anyone will see mine, as I imagine it will be consigned to the same dust heap. (However, if for some reason I pass muster & you DO see this review, please look for the hidden other one-​star reviews that Unilocal!did not factor into Dr. Giannelli’s score. Plenty of patients have had a similar experience. The most favorable reviews seem to be from people who are longtime & more valuable patients.)

He was a nice doctor but the way he works is BS. I had to come in 3 times to get one mole removed, and I was told that I didn’t have to pay a co-​pay for getting stitches out the last time. Later I’m billed for the copay and I call to complain and I’m told because he wrote a prescription he has to charge me a copay. He lied to my face.
Also the scar I have from having the mole being removed, and my mom said I should get a refund because it looks I got stabbed in a bar fight, with the amount of scar tissue there.
People have mentioned his paper thin walls, and I agree that’s its a big HIPPA violation.
If you’re worried about scarring, billing, and privacy, go elsewhere.

I have been to a number of dermatologists in my life and Dr. G is far and above any of them! The man makes miracles! My skin is so clear! I can’t say enough good things!

Do you know those privacy statements every doctor makes you sign in which the doctor pledges to keep your medical information private except in special circumstances? Well in this office the form is a joke because the walls are so thin you can hear EVERYTHING that is said in the next room. At my last appointment I heard the guy on my left ask about back hair and the woman on my right ask about sunscreen. Then they got to listen to me discuss my personal concerns with the good doctor.
My other complaint is with the guy who does their billing. He doesn’t return calls. It got so bad I started a log to record how often I called him and left messages. When I finally gave up and wrote a check for the amount I was told I was owed, they had no record of the payment having been made at my next appointment a month later.
That being said, I like Dr. Giannelli a great deal. I trust him and I find him easy to talk to. He’s caring and friendly and he seems very knowledgeable.
Still I feel like it would’t cost him that much to add some sound insulation to his office. Isn’t providing privacy a basic part of good patient care?

I have seen a number of dermatologists in my life and I found Dr. Gianelli to be competent and generally had a positive experience. I saw him once a month over the course of 6 months for a drug treatment.
One star off for typical doctor’s office stuff: wait 30 – 40 minutes after appointment before seeing the doctor and somewhat hurried pace once in the doctor’s actual presence.
Other commenters have complained that Dr. Gianelli tried to upsell them on extra procedures. I have a family history of having moles removed, and one dermatologist I have seen was very aggressive about recommending moles be removed. I am now fairly confident that she did this in substantial part because a doctor’s compensation is so much higher for procedures than check-​ups. No dermatologist I’ve seen after her (4 – 5 of them) has recommended having a mole removal, Dr. Gianelli included. So that is one situation in which I am fairly confident he is not taking the opportunity to push unncessary procedures.

Saw him about 10 years ago for wart removal. Ended up with a staph infection and a nights stay in the hospital and weeks of expensive medication. Never saw him again, and I think I’ll keep it that way.

I have now been to a wonderfully professional dermatologist — Sabrina Newman at GWU and I recommend her to EVERYONE! The office phone number is (202) 741‑2600. She listened to me, carefully checked my rash and diagnosed it (it was not what I thought.)
The medication Dr. Newman prescribed has made a huge difference and only underlines what wretched non-​service Dr. Giannelli provided. The medication he prescribed would never have made an improvement because he couldn’t be bothered to take more than a cursory glance at the problem. Dr. Newman took a scraping of skin and checked it under the microscope then and there to diagnose the problem. Medical consumers need to start getting more assertive and critical in our assessments of healthcare providers. Dr. Giannelli’s unprofessionalism is appalling; he should be drummed out of town.

Looking over some of the lower ratings I was left a bit perplexed. I have gone to Dr. Giannelli for years now and have always had a good experience. I don’t wait long, he is always very nice and will explain the situation with a bit of joking if needed. He takes as much time as I need to explain any additional questions or even do another procedure if needed. Sure, he isn’t a small town doctor as someone longed for, but I grew up in a small town in Ohio and my doctor wasn’t Mr. Sunshine. I think people often have idealized memories of things from their youth that rarely turn out to be true. I am looking for a good, fast and competent doctor who doesn’t try to pimp extra services on me and Dr. Giannelli is just the man. I will keep going back, in fact, I am scheduling an appointment tomorrow. So, why the 4 stars since I like him so much? I don’t like going to doctors.

Horrible, horrible horrible experience with this doctor. I’m a little shocked there are not more negative reviews but maybe those people don’t Unilocal.Long review but worth reading.
The actual appointment was whatever. The doctor was not warm and fuzzy but I can handle that. I asked some questions, he kinda brushed them off and ordered tests instead of really talking to me. I came in for a few specific concerns and when I was there I showed him a popped blood vessel on my face. He said he could zap it and my insurance wouldn’t charge. Sure, why not I thought. The bill came a few weeks later and it was on there. All I wanted to do was talk to the doctor about my test results and a follow up to the bill (the office workers said I would have to speak to the doctor about how he billed me). This became a four week cat and chase of having the doctor call me. I kept on calling the office, speaking with his office staff, them promising the doctor would call me back and he’s not «ignoring» me and on and on. I finally get a letter from the office with straight out lies about what I said on the phone. It’s ridiculous and so UNPROFESSIONAL what and how they wrote it and threatening sending my bill to collections. I followed up with another call to the office, nobody called me back. I finally got a hold of the office manager. She promised the doctor would get back to me in 24 hours. One week later I receive another letter with the bill and highlighting how they were going to send it to collections in one week. The doctor NEVER called me back after 8 attempts of speaking to his office staff.
Basically the doctor could give two shits about his patients and just wants your money. There are many, many dermatologists in NW DC who have much better customer service. I’m writing this review not out of spite but so nobody else has to experience this same type of behavior if they do have any follow up questions for the doctor. Go to Alicia Braun on 21^st and F who is near by or a number of other dermatologists.

I’ve seen Dr. Vincenzo a couple of times and would recommend him. He’s a really nice man — probably in his 50s, Italian, maybe a little on the disheveled side, which I found comforting. Their office runs very smoothly — I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than 5 minutes. It’s kind of no-​frills in that you can sometimes hear what’s going on in the other exam rooms, but more in a muffled Charlie Brown’s teacher way. Most importantly, the course of treatment he prescribed worked. I also recommended him to my husband who went for a mole screening and he said it was very thorough.

I went to Dr. Giannelli for a cyst in the visage (next to the ear). Dr Giannelli was very nice and helpful, he took the time to talk with me and explain me everything.
I had my cyst removed last week, it was more than an inch diameter but Dr Giannelli managed to remove only a very small piece of skin to minimize the scar, I have only ONE stitch and it is very small. I was a little bit nervous before the procedure so his assistant talked to me, joke and bring me magazines to help me relax.
I gave him just 4 stars because i though the lady at the front desk could be more welcoming…

I have never been especially impressed with my dermatologists in the past. I have had pretty severe eczema most of my adult life and yet the dermatologists I had been to didn’t seem to know how to fix it. Thus I had been putting off going back for a checkup since I pretty much am used to it.
However, after getting really itchy post-​tubing this weekend (see my Butts Tubing review), AND having had a small lump on my neck the past few weeks, I decided I needed to get to a dermatologist asap. A friend had recommended Dr. Giannelli. When I called I asked when the next available appointment was, and when they said not until July 6, I said I needed to see someone today because of a rash, so I’d call somewhere else. She told me to hold on, then asked if I could come in at 10am this morning.
Turns out the lump is probably just a swollen lymph node (but he’ll check it again in two weeks), and the itchiness was from a bacterial infection from the life vest at the tubing place (probably staph – eww). While I was there, he burned off a bunch of little spots on my arms related to the eczema, removed a mole (which will be biopsied), gave me two prescriptions (for the eczema, and an antibiotic cream for the infection), and sent me on my way – all within about 15 minutes. He was very professional, very knowledgeable and has an awesome Italian accent. I’ve found a great dermatologist at last!

I too went with Dr. Vincenzo off a Unilocal review. And to be completely honest he was not my first choice. His office was the only office to answer their phone at 3pm on a Wednesday. The staff were very nice and I was given an appt for the next day at 12:40.
I walked in at 12:39 with bated breath (i got lost walking around), filled out my paperwork and checked in. I have to put up a HUGE disclaimer here– with my spas, my employees were uniformed in tailored scrubs, and the office was ridiculously professional. This was… not the case. It seemed very relaxed. Street clothes, story telling by the receptionists including the drop of the F bomb. Not good. Not professional.
But the front staff is very nice, and fun– complimentary as well. So I don’t mean to degrade them, I just expect more from my staff– then again they dont work for me, so i’ll stfu.
The office is nothing to shake a stick at. If you’re coming for aesthetics, be prepared that this is not a medi-​spa, and def has the feel of a medical office. A derm’s office. Oatmeal coloured walls, and old cabinetry.
The walls are thin and I found it a bit disturbing that I could hear what the patient in the next room was getting… hmm HIPAA what?
$ 10/​unit for botox, great injector!!! Fantastic, and friendly physician. I think I have definitely found my injector here in DC. I would have given this office 5 stars but I HAVE to take one off for the front desk clearly cursing in front of patients.

Went with him off a Unilocal review. Wasn’t liking how my skin was doing this past month so I made an appt.
Nice doc, said it was probably due to stress, so I got a script and some samples. Then… well…since I was there, I might as well inquire about some botox. His botox prices are reasonable, and even better when you consider it is being administered by an MD. $ 300 and 30 minutes later, I walked out the door. I get such a high when I see that needle. Preventative aging. Get. You. Some.

I love Dr. Giannelli! I have referred several friends to him and will continue to do so. He is sensitive, takes a lot of time to answer questions, has a great italian accent, and gives out lots of free samples. I’ve never felt rushed.
I ended up on accutane and saw him monthly for over a year while blasting away my sudden case of horrible adult acne. Accutane is a difficult treatment and can be problematic due to rules around prescriptions. He was always on time with calling the Rx in to CVS.
While his office sells up scale skin care products, he never tried to convince me I needed them and in fact says Neutrogena is the best.
The ladies who work in his office have a great sense of humor and are always able to schedule me at a convenient time. I’ve never had a problem with health insurance either. They are considerate of budget concerns, making sure generics are prescribed whenever possible.
Here’s a good tip they gave me: if you’re driving, park in the Trader Joe’s parking lot next door. The lot is free for an hour or 2.
They also offer cosmetic treatments including laser, botox, microdermabrasion, etc.
