Dr. Yu is a badass. He performed my microdiscectomy/laminectomy in November, and was nothing but super honest about the state of my spine. I wouldn’t describe him as super warm or friendly, but he is a consummate professional(hello, chair of spinal surgery at GW), and will be up-front and honest with regard to what he can and cannot do for you. Add to this that he has a really dry sense of humor and was blaring Depeche Mode when I was wheeled into the OR, and you have a winner. As far as getting into his office goes, the man is booked up. You definitely need a referral, and current films/studies/whatever, and he won’t waste your time with BS. I was scared out of my mind to get back surgery because of my mom’s horrible history with such procedures, but he assuaged my fears and took care of business. I walked that night, went home the next day, and got rid of the walker after two weeks. Five months later, I’m back to riding my bike, going to yoga, and taking long walks with no pain. He’s the best in DC(just ask Washingtonian Magazine) for good reason.

I saw Dr. Yu in Clinton MD, he spent maybe 5 minutes with me and it was like he put me out. He look at my X-ray’s and said you need surgery. I asked him what are my other option. He just said when your ready to consider the surgery let me know and walked out.

I was probably too harsh in the previous review — in another appointment, the technician and staff were quite nice. Dr. Yu, well, is a surgeon — so if your problem doesn’t require surgery it seems that he’s not super interested or concerned and doesn’t provide as much information or explanation of my problem and possible solutions as I would like. This seems to me quite typical of specialists, since they only earn more when they can do a procedure on you.
