When looking for a company to sand and refinish our floors, Kuhn flooring was recommended to me by an acquaintance of mine. I called around to get a couple quotes and Kuhn was definitely the least expensive(but not frighteningly so). Some other companies charge extra per square foot for darker stains but Kuhn does not, which worked out well for us since I wanted to go with a dark brown. Another reason I chose Kuhn flooring was that when the guy(sorry, forgot your name), came to measure, he reconized that it was a Heartland plan and mentioned that they most likely finished the floors in my home when it was built(10 years ago).(we moved in less than 2 years ago). When I was ready to have them start,(was waiting on my kitchen remodel to start) I called Chris two weeks in advance and they were able to schedule to start the project. The pros: As mentioned, the price was a big pro. In fact, the total was actually slightly LESS thsn what i was quoted. Also, Chris was an absolute joy to work with. He was so pleasant and always got back to me quickly. The other guys who did most of the work on the floors were easy to work with as well. They turned on the fans and locked the doors when finished. They also worked with my schedule since I had other services coming into the home. The cons: the floors turned out to be a bit lighter than I was expecting. This could be my fault though because they did show me a small patch that they stained so that I could approve the color and I approved it though I feel the overall result was a half shade lighter. There was definitely some stain on the baseboards. This was rather frustrating as I had paid for painters to paint the kitchen 6 days before. We ended up having to repaint the baseboards ourselves. Last, the lack of communication about what to expect when refinishing your hardwood floors. I did a lot of research on the Internet beforehand so I knew that we needed to be out of the house for several days and I knew to put fans in the windows to help air out the smell but, it would have been nice to have been communicated these things by Kuhn flooring(as well as aftercare). The only instruction I was given after the floors were finished was to not put a carpet on it for a couple days when they were done. Luckily, I read online to not wash the floors for two weeks and only use water for the first month as it takes a month for them to fully cure. This issue could be easily remedied with a brochure/pamphlet.
