We spent another glorious week in Maine this summer. We went to this«family camp» that we have not done in the past. I am unsure why it never occurred to us to try this marvelous and active retreat but I am so utterly happy that we did. We decided to come to «Medomak Family Camp» set on a gorgeous pond in Washington, Maine based on the recommendation of a client of mine who actually was raving about the simple, yet amazing accommodations. They lodged us in these cute wooden cabins that were basic but had all the comforts of home but a classic camping style. It has a private bathroom, which I truly appreciated. I don’t want to use an outhouse and that would not be fabulous. Of course, for me, I am used to 5 star accommodations. Especially, for my clients but I am willing to sacrifice for some down home Maine camping adventure. We truly had an exceptional time. With all the usual camping activities offered of tennis, crafts, boating, much exercise and you even have the option to be able to milk a Maine dairy cow(which is very much an experience for the little ones and the adults alike). Milking a cow is not easy, it takes strength and patience, that is a good lesson for kids to learn. Most things in life take careful planning, persistence and hard work. Being on a farm for a week and unplugging from the over stimulation that kids(and us adults) are exposed too constantly was a valuable lesson for all of them. It is such a service that this type of vacation still exists. It allows kids(and again adults) to get back to the basics, to a simpler lifestyle that can help you renew and revive your spirit. We did a few day trips out from the campsite to the beach and soaked up the phenomenal views and all the offerings of Maine that were lovely views. Maine is a vast land of oceans, lakes, mountains, hills and valleys. Explore it, enjoy it and tell others about it! You know, we get so used to our quest for a 5 star life or experiences with all the luxuries that that includes, but sometimes you just must put that aside and experience the earth. You must revel in the simplicity of nature to bring you back to the connection with the universe. The other wonderful thing worth mentioning is the organic produce available in the garden. This was one of the best parts of my day, enjoying the fresh salads and wonderful harvest from their garden. You can taste the difference of the organic growing and it inspired me to someday have a small organic garden of this caliber. I found some new Maine beers I can enjoy at my home in Massachusetts. Even though I am not a beer drinker, I sampled some local brews and fell in love. I can be reminiscent of my adventurous vacation that I will always cherish and remember with fond, fond memories. This vacation is best enjoyed with children as it is their delight in all the new experiences that made my vacation experience top level. Everyone working here was lovely. They made us feel at home. The service is fabulous and I give them top praise for this. We made friends easily and all felt at ease. One more«tip” — do not miss the traditional lobster bake night as part of your weekly meal package offering. Make sure you do not plan an off camp day trip that would cause you to miss this. You have to experience fresh Maine lobster and local clams and mussels. They are Devine!
