Short Version: If you’re willing to put up with the appearance of the store and long check-out lines, K-mart has some decent clearance deals to offer. Long Version: First off, it has to be said that you can get some decent deals here. Because it’s not a heavily-shopped store, tons of items are marked down to clearance. It’s nothing insanely special(in terms of clearance), and the prices usually match the clearance prices listed on the site. However, it’s surprising exactly how many of the clearance items that this K-Mart still has hanging around, so if you don’t feel like spending a ton of money but still want to get something new, it’s worth looking around here. That being said, this is not a great store. In fact, it’s a bit run-down. The parking lot is in insane disrepair, but it’s still driveable. A lot of the interior fixtures look old, and when I came here today(March 20th), they still had Christmas items on clearance they’re trying to get rid of. Some of the static displays(like nail polish or things that don’t rotate often) do have a layer of dust on them. This K-mart does have a grocery section including a cooler for staple items(milk, etc.), but because it doesn’t get shopped too often, please be cautious when purchasing food to ensure it’s not expired. I looked at picking up some milk, but all of the gallons expired tomorrow. Between the clearance and the appearance of the store, the store could still make an average rating. What puts it below average seems to be the unhelpfulness of the employees. I have no problem with being left alone or not greeted on the sales floor — that’s not an issue, and I prefer to shop in peace anyway. However, the one time where I want things to run smoothly is the check-out, and both times I’ve been here in the past week, check-out hasn’t gone well. Today, there were two registers open. No problem. However, I got in line at one of the registers, and that register promptly stopped moving. There was some issue going on. No issue. I’ll just wait for a bit. The other register then got backed up because mine wasn’t moving. Fifteen minutes later, I was still in line. They finally get another employee to open up a third register, and I wasn’t offered an apology for the wait or — honestly — even a hello. It was a very silent transaction, and while it wasn’t outright rude, I didn’t feel particularly welcomed. I’ve worked at K-Mart, and I know how the policies are and how icky it can feel to come to work some days, but I just feel like, between the appearance and the employees, maybe this isn’t somewhere that I’ll want to be shopping too often.

Typically I don’t shop at Kmart. Only because I think prices are little higher than going to target or Walmart and selection is kind of hit and miss. I needed a new trashcan for my bathroom and since I was on University Avenue this was the closest and most convenient place to go. They had several character and decorative bathroom trash cans with monkeys and butterflies but I just wanted a plane bronzed copper one. The only one that would’ve really match my bathroom was $ 27. I was hoping for about 15. So I just went with a tan plastic one for $ 10. This place always kind of seems run down and dirty. It wasn’t as bad today as it has been in the past. Most of the displays actually had product on I’m whereas in times past there typically empty. There still that weird old smell when you enter. They have three cashiers working. Which is more than plenty for the workload. I was help right away but not with a smile or really even a acknowledgement. I know they’re struggling company but they could’ve limited the amount of receipt tape they used with my two item transaction. I got one very long receipt and three coupons so I total of four different pieces of paper offer a trashcan and some trash bags. Pretty much a waste because I have no need to go back anytime soon.

This store is always filthy. While buying nail polish they were all covered in a thick dust and the bathrooms are not much better. Another downside is the management seems to force the employees to harass shoppers to sign up for rewards cards. We were told they HAVE to sign up at least 50 people a day! Every time we go in we are asked if we want to sign up over and over. The only bonus to this store is they have layaway.
