So I get in and ask for a Reuben but may as well have asked the employee if I could kick her son in the nuts. Employee: *rolling eyes furiously* «we are out of corned beef» Like she was clearly pissed off. Anywaysi got a turkey sandwich which was fine. like a little better than subway kind of, not really.

Having grown up with Jreck Subs, I decided to stop by a location on a trip up north. I was disappointed. The clerk was impatient when I did not know all of the options for the roll or cheeses. I ordered the tuna mostly to compare it with Subway. The roll is skinnier than Subway. At Subway they put 4 scoops of tuna on a full sub. The girl at Jreck just put two scoops and spread it out very very thin. I am not sure if this is the norm or because the container was empty and she didn’t want to get out another. The tuna also had way too much mayo. It seemed like there was more mayo than tuna. Then the topping selections were lacking and the amount put on the sub were skimpy. Subway has a much better range of toppings and put on a decent amount of each. I will be visiting the Subway next time I am town as I prefer their toasted subs.

Here’s the deal. These subs are kickass. There’s not much to get excited about in H2O-town, but when I head up to visit the bf’s hometown we ALWAYS stop at Jreck’s. Standard order that I will never stray from: turkey sub and an order of mozzarella sticks. The bread is soft and not super thick, it melds perfectly with the thinly sliced meats and veggies. The secret touch to make these subs a step above par are the shakers(parm & Italian spices). My perfect sub: large white roll(for splitting between me and Willy on our drive back to Rochester), turkey, mayo, provolone, shredded lettuce, light onions, banana peppers, tomatoes and shakers, a light squeeze of oil. They add ingredients to the bread opened flat so it’s always folded perfectly to get everything in one bite.

Jrecks, I miss you. Jrecks, I love you. Jrecks, I will always obtain you within 24 hours of arriving home(perhaps even sooner now that there are direct flights from Chicago to Watertown.) Maybe it’s because I grew up in Watertown. Maybe it’s the roll. Who knows and I don’t care. Jrecks will always be something that I crave ever since leaving NNY. I can’t really review based on variety because I’ve had the same order since I was ten. Whole turkey on white, light on the mayo, American, everything but tomato and pickle. Light oil. Extra hot peppers. Serious perfection. I was home in October and heard that the rolls had changed. Nonetheless, I found my sub to be just as great as always.

Worst sub I’ve had anywhere, any time. Threw it away after a few bites. I don’t know how this chain stays in business when there’s Quiznos or even Subway in the same town.
