This place, these people, their food and this community is simply an amazing gem hidden away at very cusp of upstate New York. If you can appreciate great food made from local produce with love and care then why drive further?

Do you like healthy food and supplements? This place is amazing, they also have a small café that freshly prepares a wide variety of delicious healthy food!

Delicous food and great products with great prices. We had lunch there and it was delicious and at a good price. Lots of options for healthy food and items to jump start clean eating and a new eating habit. A must visit if you live here in Watertown as this is the only truly healthy place I have seen since I moved here July 2013.

I love this place! Good thing, when the closest Trader Joes is an hour away and the closest Whole Foods requires a passport and a 6 hour round trip drive… The staff is really nice and more than willing to special order things they can get a hand on. There’s a ton of great food in back, and there’s almost always something gluten free and vegan to eat.

Pricey, but they do have sales that bring the prices down– when that happens, you might find a great deal, cheaper than ordering online or purchasing from one of the big chain grocery stores in town.(read: if they even have the item) PROS: Friendly, awesome, helpful staff that are a joy to visit and have conversation with; organic bulk section; the option to purchase items in bulk and receive either a 10% or 20% discount(the latter if you spend $ 100+); rewards program 5% back in coupon form; great café with the only healthy to go food in the entire city; already prepared grab n’ go items; convenient location; bulk herbs/teas/spices/coffee beans! CONS: tiny shop; tiny produce section(but some great items find their way into that little nook in the front of the store); a bit lacking in the bulk section, would love RAW juice or RAW food options in the café; high prices on most items, especially most supplements… but again there are lots of sales to keep eyes open for!; no POS cashier system so employees must type all prices and categories into the register– this leaves lots of room for human error– so make sure you pay attention and ask questions if you need to. They are always helpful and will fix any mistakes– even if you come back with receipt and explanation. Overall, it’s a very good thing Mustard Seed is in this town because without it there would not be a convenient healthier fast food option for those on the go. It is pretty sad how many big business fast food joints there are in this town… Mustard Seed is a nice little place that reminds me of my hometown and probably the only tiny resemblance in a cold, dull, and almost culture-less

I wish I could review the sandwich shop seperately from the actual grocery portion. It’s not that I don’t like Mustard Seed, I just have certain expectations for my health food stores. Let’s start with the sandwich shop: absoluetly one of the best in Watertown, although I can’t compare much since gluten free is non existant in Watertown. We ordered GF sandwichdes(I think they use Udi’s sandwich bread) with turkey, mayo(veganase), lettuce, cheese and mustard. We asked for bacon but that was not an option. The sandwich was perfect! It had the right amount of mayo and mustard and meats. That does not happen often, they usually skimp on one thing or another. The sandwich was $ 5.00, not bad-I have paid steeper prices for the same thing, only worse. Now lets get down and dirty with the grocery portion. I always feel like I leave with a wanting for more products in the store. Granted it is a small store and I am sure they cannot just pick up and move but I just feel like they are missing out on some important brands. Chebe, more Against the Grain products, goat yogurt, different ice creams etc. Their GF section has grown over the years, this is the main place we go for my groceries when we are in Watertown visiting Jason’s family. I do think they are over-priced, could be due to the remote area and how much it costs to ship/transport. Or the owners just know they have a niche.(although there is another grocery store right down the road that has a decent GF/organic section) The store is clean and this last visit I noticed they now have rewards program-I do not know the specifics but it is about time! :)

Without the comforting aisles of Whole Foods, Trader Joes or even a Wegmans nearby, Mustard Seed is like a breath of fresh air after prolonged suffocation. Imagine the drowning disappointment I suffered each time I tried to go grocery shopping to cook the foods that the restaurants around here do not offer. I would walk around aimlessly looking for an ingredient before deciding to ask for help. Asking where an ingredient is in a grocery store is the woman’s equivalent of stopping by to ask for directions for a man, I think. I would plan trips out of town and ensure that I stop by a grocery store for supplies because the closest decent grocery store was over an hour away. What kind of place did I land myself in!!! That was all before I was curious enough to brave into Mustard Seed. Mustard Seed’s sign states«Natural Foods and Supplements» and to be honest I drove by this place multiple times thinking that it is a froo froo holistic shop. I never thought that they would have groceries, spices, and the things I know and love to cook with! Yes they still have a great deal of vitamins, supplements and natural remedies but there’s so much more and at a great place. This place is going to keep me through my year long of being stranded at Fort Drum. Next stop, to try their café!

Being a health food fanatic, I did notice the merchandise is ridiculously overpriced!!! Though it is the only health store in Watertown. I religiously buy coconut oil this was double the price compared to whole foods. Save yourself the cash buy online. I was so excited to come in too.
