I am updating my review since this place is under new ownership. It hurts me that they kept the same name because this new management completely destroys anything the Red Door used to be. I used to be greeted by familiar smiling faces but upon walking up to this joint I was greeted by two unwelcoming bald headed beefy biker dudes who demanded a $ 10 cover and my ID for some shitty metal band that was playing. Upon looking past them I saw a total of 6 people in the entire establishment… All the cool paintings of famous musicians have been replaced with blaring flat screen TVs. Lame sauce.

If there were Zero stars I would put it. DONOT pay attention to any of the reviews before 2014. There are new owners. They charged $ 10 to get in(not a problem) the band was good. But upon entering you are greeted by biker extras from the«Sons of Anarchy» series as well as two of Watertown’s finest in uniform. Both crews(bikers) and cops are staring at patrons with attitude. I have been to the place many years and it WAS a good time. BUT now with the new owners everything has changed. Not to mention that one of the owners is like 70 years old, bald, and with attitude and drinks heavily at the place. It morphed from a fun sport to a very low class, biker establishment. The staff, owner, police, do not treat anyone with respect. I swear — I felt like I was in a cheesy 80s biker bar movie aka Roadhouse. I would never bring my date here much less my friends. I witnessed the owner yell at many different customers AND physically throw people out who were not doing anything at all. It is too much drama. I won’t say my nationality but I have white skin. And don’t DARE come in here if you are a little brown or black because you will be hassled. ITISTHATBAD—

The Red Door is the bar I always end up at when I visit home. It’s the only place in the area for real live music, drink prices are reasonable, and the layout is awesome. It can get a little crowded on the weekend, but that is the weekend bar scene for you. Open Mic Thursdays and jazz and sushi Wednesdays are fun too with $ 2.50 drafts to boot!

I like the Red Door. It is a fun little local bar. Granted, there aren’t many alternatives. You can come out here on Tuesday which is college night where they have $ 2.50 draft beers and open mic night which is fun. Wednesdays is Sushi Bob & Jazz music which is also a really good time. Sushi Bob makes awesome sushi(for CT) and he’ll take special requests(favorite is the inside-out spicy tuna roll!) The weekends here tend to get a little busy and they charge a cover. Parking can be a bit of an annoyance on the streets and there are always lots of cops nearby so you want to designate a driver. If you live in the area, it’s one of your better options…

I’ve been to the Red Door numerous times to see bands. It’s a nice bar if you don’t go when there is a big band. It gets so crowded you can barely move! Its a narrow bar too, not a lot of moving room. Drinks are normally priced, you won’t save any money. Cover is always $ 5 or more on weekends. There is also a down stairs with a DJ and dancing, which is just as crowded as the upstairs. The stupid thing is that they do not allow anyone to wear sports gear. Went there once with an ex and they made him take off his red sox jersey and made him go in with his undershirt! So if you wear a sports shirt and hat, be expected to take it off… don’t wear them! Stupid I know, but I guess it prevents fights, but I doubt most of the fights are yankee-red sox related…
