I love getting dinner from this place. I get mine to go. The eggplant parmesan sub is *so* incredibly delicious. Perfect amounts of each ingredient and everything’s always carefully and evenly distributed so you get the goodness of all the scrumptiousness with every bite. I search for good eggplant parm and the W is tops. The eggplant at the W is baked, not fried, too, which is great. Their chicken parm was written up on on (check it out, it’s a cool blog!) and got a four out of five parm rating. Last time I was there, two guys from a nearby restaurant(they were wearing their uniforms) picked up multiple pizzas and by the sound of things they order from the W very often. The people behind the counter obviously care about the quality of the food they serve and the level of service they provide you with. These things mean a lot to me. Oh, and I heard someone raving about the roast beef last time I was there so I’ll have to try that next time! Much love for the W!

My favorite steak and cheese. The meat they use is top quality and not greasy at all. I get that every time, great friendly service. My friends get his salads all the time and love it. Looking forward to trying their wings.

Best Pizza in Town, Mike does not cut any corners when it comes to service and quality, always fresh made and great portions. It is always a pleasure when I go with my twins. Mike and the W is a five star for me.

I’ve been here 4 – 5 times and have never really walked away thinking I just had a good experience. I like to support local businesses, but these guys can make it tough sometimes. A few thoughts: 1) The food is always meh. Never terrible, never good, but easy enough to choke down and not feel too strongly one way or the other. 2) No power outlets. I know this is a pizza joint and not a starbucks, but if you’re looking for leisurely lunch where you can get some laptop time in, you better walk in with a full charge. 3) TV is loud. Not a fair critique by itself, but the audio always carries some distortion with it making a strident noise. I’m surprised the owners haven’t just got a new TV by now. 4) I went to the W about a week ago and was rather surprised by how rude one of the workers(owners?) was to me. I had ordered a sub, paid for it, ate it, hung around for a little bit reading a book, then got ready to leave. As I walked for the door a women by the counter snarled at me that I didn’t pay… I don’t like be accused of anything, let alone with a tone that you’d normally reserve for a teenage hooligan, but I was basically the only person in the store for the prior hour, so its not like they could have mixed me up with an avalanche of business they were doing. Now, the women who barked at me wasn’t the guy who took my order,(or my money), so I’m not entirely sure what her deal was. Still, there’s a Subway across the street now, and no one from that franchise has ever harangued me with dine-and-dash ambitions.

I kinda feel bad doing this, but I’ll give my experience. Went in three separate occasions, hankering something different each time. I’ve gone here in the past, and the pizza has been okay, but not sure if that was«new» or «old» management. Recently I went in for a slice. There were no slices, and although six minutes to make a new one doesn’t sound long, I was running errands and didn’t feel like waiting. That’s fine, I’ll try again next time. The next time I wanted a tuna sub but they were out of tuna. Geez, okay I got a slice. Was not good at all and I can eat Italian, Greek, frozen, whatever. I’m not really a pizza snob. But their pizza just doesn’t taste right. Cheap cheese? Sysco sauce? Not sure, but the crust was okay I suppose, just didn’t work altogether. The last time I went in, I wanted to try the chili from the menu and recalled another Unilocal review from the manager saying something about«come in-try us again etc» as a reply about a negative comment about the«old» management’s chili. I came in on a cold day, and the woman at the counter seemed somewhat surprised I asked for chili and said she’d check to see if there was any left. I saw her go into the back and open a fridge or freezer and said she didn’t think any was left. I don’t think I would have wanted reheated frozen chili anyway, but thanks. Three strikes and you’re out. Two stars because the staff is friendly enough and it’s clean. Trim down the menu if you can’t handle occasional orders of staple items.

Good food, cooked fresh. I had the ‘extra lean’ pastrami special, on a wrap(with onions, pickles, and spicy mustard) and LOVED it. I’ve had a chicken gyro there and it was very good, too. The atmosphere isn’t all that great, but biggie; good eats at a good price. The owner is a nice guy, too.

I try to go to neighborhood pizza joints whenever possible(sorry, Papa J’s… but you were my college love), and finally got a chance to try out the W last Friday evening. I was lucky enough to try out his work-in-process, and currently off-menu, chicken parm pizza, and it was SO good. The chicken was so crispy on top of the simple marinara base, and the thin crust– which I’m usually not a fan of(give me sicilian style any day)– was delightful. Because of the chicken topping, I actually preferred the thin crust, so as not to detract. I was able to chat with the owner while the pie finished baking and he was so personable, and although totally overworked(apparently he had just finished a big order he donated to a charity event), you wouldn’t know it. It was a little pricey at $ 16, but when you consider how much food you’re actually getting here(it’s like three large chicken parm subs), it’s still a good value. I don’t think I’m quick to rate a place 5 stars, but between the pizza and the owner, I feel it’s justified. Looking forward to my next visit.

Mea culpa. Mike’s response made me rethink my first review and give The W a second chance. I’m glad I did. Since my last visit, Mike had reengineered his chicken parm sub. He now uses a new chicken with a crunchier breading, topped with his homemade sauce and provolone cheese. A carefully selected local bakery makes his bread daily. The new chicken made all the difference. I’m a big fan of the extra crunch. Most importantly, his ratio was right on, not surprising for an accomplished engineer. I was able to eat it with one hand, while the sub maintained its structural integrity. The sauce was plentiful without side spillage, and the fact that the white shirt I was wearing remained white is proof of that. After talking to Mike, I have high hopes for the future of my neighborhood pizza joint. He got into the business because when he was in college studying engineering he worked as a cook to pay for school. He has a passion for food, so he jumped at the chance to take over the fledgling shop when it for sale a year ago. He spoke with great pride about«engineering» a new lighter, healthier thin crust pizza, topped with his homemade sauce because the canned sauce just wasn’t good enough. So I can now say, it was an outstanding parm and an even better experience. If you want to read more about my experiences at The W — check out my blog at

This place is owned by a relative of my neighbor. BESTNEIGHBOREVER! The pizza is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it it smashes into your palate like a crunchy, cheesy freight train. I dream of this pizza. I am complete again. If you need a part-time short order cook, let me know. I love you.

The W is a hole in the wall pizza place on Mount Auburn St that I forgot existed until recently my girlfriend mentioned the place when she had to do a laundry run. I had never eaten there until this past Saturday when we stopped in for a couple of subs to go. The guy behind the counter, older guy about maybe late 40’s early 50’s, was extremely pleasant. I had a large italian sub, and it was much better then anything subway could produce, and it was cheaper then Gerri’s Italian Kitchen’s Italian Sub. So it was an excellent sub all around. It was the first one that actually reminded me of being in New Jersey. My girlfriend had the buffalo chicken wrap and she really enjoyed it. The buffalo sauce was very spicy. Now, the only issue that anything came up was the wrap. this was the second wrap my girlfriend had bought, and she had issues with the first one too. Basically the only suggestion that can be made is to have more practice wrapping the wrap because they fall apart a bit too easy. It has delivery to the watertown area, which is a bonus.

Chris is a very friendly owner and I ended up going there for lunch with some co-workers and has a good experience there. We were able to eat a variety of things which we shared including some chicken wings, which were crisp and meaty and perfectly seasoned. Along with it we had some tasty chili and I also ordered a grilled chicken wrap which arrived minutes later and tasted fresh and was great as well. The place has all kinds of specials, some good looking pizza(I’ll have to try it on my next adventure there) and a variety of other items that I plan on checking out next time. The place is clean, spacious and there’s even a TV in case you don’t want to miss a big game. The only downside is that finding parking can be difficult but I can’t hold that against them. On the upside, they are conveniently located just a stone’s throw from Watertown Square.

These guys are pretty good. The pizza has thick crust(not deep dish, but something you can sink your teeth into), as well as some pretty serious amount of toppings. Try the House Special… awesome right out of the oven and makes great leftovers(much better than thin crust). Right next to the beer store too, makes one-stop shopping easy.

Not only is the food at the W great, but the owner, Chris, is a pleasure to do business with. Apparently, his parents opened the shop in the 70s, sold it back then, and now he has come back to «retake» possesion. He’s obviously invested alot in redoing the place as it was in serious need of renovation. Most recenly he owned a shop in Cambridge and he is brought his experience to Watertown Square. Every pizza, salad and sub I have tried was fresh and tasty. And they will also deliver to the local area. A fresh and much needed experience in the square.

In my further quest for the perfect New York slice, I can say that the W House of Pizza doesn’t have it. Their pizza is… well, pizza. It’s not as greasy as Greek pizza, but it’s not that magical New York thin-chewy slice that snaps out straight when you fold it. The sauce is a little bland, the cheese is just cheese, but the shakers are on the counter if you like to get your pizza shake on. What I will say, though, is that the guy behind the counter is super nice, and the daily specials are very friendly to the wallet. I had a slice with a Greek salad for five bucks, and thought it was a great deal. So I ain’t mad at the W… but I’m still searching for the perfect slice.

OK, so, when you order a sausage, pepper, and onion sub from an italian pizza and sub shop you expect what? Sausage peppers and onion on a roll? Well, I got that… but it was undercooked, the sauce tasted like tomato paste and the sausage wasn’t cut… it was a big sausage link. It weighed about a thousand pounds and was pretty gross. Their salads are ok… when the lettuce is fresh. We went in once and the owner was telling us how crappy business is and how he is throwing food out… not what I want to hear when I am grabbing lunch. There are so many better options in Watertown Square… try something else!
