Wauconda Area Library is a terrific community resource. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They offer so many programs at no cost for adults and children that my out-of-town family is shocked at the services we have. The children’s area is on its own floor, so kids can be kids and don’t have to be worried about being shushed by librarians like some other area libraries. I can’t comment on the iPad’s and video games because I prefer my kids to play, do an art project, or *gasp* – read – but there is no shortage of activities to keep my kids begging to come back to the library. It’s easy to find books and videos with the«card catalog» computers or even your phone as you walk around the library. If I have trouble finding something(patrons and kids sometimes reshelve books in the wrong place), the staff is happy to help. After the renovation, the library looks brand new and has a state-of-the art classroom and private study rooms upstairs. Finally, the best feature I have found is that if the library doesn’t have a newer book that can’t be borrowed from interlibrary loan, they buy it for the library and call me when it’s in! I do wish they’d increase their e-book subscriptions to offer more copies on Overdrive, but I know some of the publishers are gouging libraries on audio and e-book prices.

Horrible library– was hard to find an books/DVDs because nothing was alphabetical order. A fish was dead in the fishtank and when I told the librarian and her lib rain friend just standing around they shrugged and said oh well. They do have some I pads we looked at but they have about 2 out of 15 apps that work and are not very educational. The place was a mess of toys and paper airplanes thrown about all over the floor. I’m very disappointed :(

The renovation(once it was completely finished) really made this a better library. Everything seems to be where it is supposed to be now.

Awesome library! Children’s department is downstairs which is nice for the adults to have a place that’s a little quite. They have awesome classes for adults, teens and kids not to mention all the ones I have seen are free! They have kuerig coffee you can purchase, vending machines, and WIFI.
