An amazing store with an incredible selection of items run by a fantastic bunch of people. A treasure, in and of itself.

The next week we arrived at 630. According to their fb page and Unilocal, this seems to be a constant problem looks like ill be taking my business elsewhere very dissapointed.

This place had an awesome selection and prices so with a heavy heart I write this review. I tried on two skirts and three similar shirts and none of them for quite right so I decided not to purchase any of them. Anyways, I was looking at some fancy dangly bra things. So the lady working there was getting them down for me and the owner man came over and said, loudly: are you going to buy any of those things? Because you didn’t buy anything else. Are you here to play dress up or buy something??” Whoah. The worst customer service I have had in a very long time. I probably would have bought one of those things too, and a pair of earrings. Instead I walked out. Way to lose customers.

We came at 5:30 and they close at 6 and refused to let us and three other women in. The employee flicked us off. It was so rude and absurd. Very unprofessional and I won’t ever being go back. My friend and I were so excited and then were completely let down

Love this store. Try to make it there a couple of times a year. In some of the reviews they mention the owner is rude. The first time I shopped there I was taken aback when he shouted at me that I had to leave my purse at the counter, but once I started talking to him I realized that he is super friendly and charming. The store is total boho, it has tons of stuff I have never seen anywhere else and super cheap. I travel extensively but have never run across another store like this. It really is magical…

Been here once with my cousins just to see what this place was all about. First thing I remember is the odd layout of trinkets, buddhist idols, and random things. The ambience is that of a «new age» type of business, catering mostly to the«rebellious hippy meditation» crowd in Waukegan. Nothing really spectacular, but at least I didn’t have a bad run in with any of the staff.

Love this place, I have been going there for almost 17 years. Every one has to visit once if you know Wau-town. Lorenzo has always been a very nice guy, and will answer any questions you have. he can be standoff-ish but if you worked every single day of your life and had dumb kids and rude people asking you ignorant and biased questions about stuff they heard or seen, you may be standoff-ish as well. So with that said should he drive customer’s away like he does sometimes? no, but if you have never had a bad day before at work or not, then just feel blessed. I love the hand-made items the fun and funky I love the big ol’ dogs and the velvet dresses. I love it all this place is a staple in the Waukegan community, and is worth the trip.

Saw the owner reprimand a lady with a small child as if the kid was going to tear up his shop. I was shocked the kid was in her arms. The employee was also shocked.

The reason why I revise my rating for Horsefeathers is because the owner can really learn a thing or two about customer service. He wasn’t rude to me, but two girls came into the store and he was a total jerk to them when they were asking him questions about products. It was extremely unprofessional to act that way especially when other customers are around. Gave me bad vibes about this place to the point where I don’t want to come back.

Lorenzo the owner is an arrogant jerk. He is rude to his costumers and is a horrible business man. I will NEVER shop here again and neither will any of my friends. The products he sells are adorable, but nothing haven’t seen elsewhere. Lorenzo… you can keep you attitude and your products. I’ll shop elsewhere!

Love this store so much! Instantly became bff’s with Lorenzo! His 2 dogs are the cutest and the store is remarkable. I could live there. There’s so much to look at, I was in awe! Bring a decent amount of money for things aren’t TOO cheap. Cute & groovy things. Hippie store definitely but there’s so many different types of things there, you could never get bored! love their assortment of incense, jewelry, perfume, knick-knacks! Filled wall to wall, floor to ceiling! ! 2 thumbs up:)

This is a pretty interesting shop. Plan to spend some time looking around as there is a lot to see. A bit pricey however, I support local businesses so that was less of a concern. The people working I only assume one was the owner. My only complaint is that if there are 2 separate price sticker on several items in the store, I was expecting to pay the lower price sticker cost and the guy that rang me up took the lower price sticker off the item and charged me the extra $ 2. Really? $ 2? I bought the item because I could not leave the store empty handed, for my kid’s sake as I was buying it for him.

The store is amazing but the owner is not. He was rude right when we walked in yelling at my husband for smelling the incense because he thought we were going to steal something. With that understood, we still chose to continue to browse until his massive dog came out, growled and charged at us. Disheveled at that point, we asked him to put the dog behind the counter so we could shop. He said we must have done something to it to have it react that way and it is his store and he can do what he wants. To say the least is a beautiful store, it is just a shame that he has treated potential customers so poorly.

Came across this little gem about two years ago and was exploding with joy because for the first time in my life I can get plugs without spending an arm and leg or giving my money to Hot Topic. Their body jewelry selection is extensive. The people who works there are almost always willing to pull out every tray so my boyfriend can pick the ones that he wants. Let me tell you the selection they have for 7/8ths is quite large. It can sometimes be mis-matched at times and you will find ONE awesome plug then find out that some jerk bought the other one! The only downside is that now that my ears are 2 inches their selection is pretty small. Supply and demand, people! Anyone else with over-sized ears should call and ask for larger size plugs :) The rest of the store(that honesty I have pretty much just skimmed past) is very hippie. They have a large selection of boho-ish skirts, rings, hats, some dresses, a few corsets and a bunch of other clothes. They also have A LOT of incense in front and scattered throughout the store. The cabinets in front have patches and little figurines. This list could go on forever. It is off the beaten path but it is definitely worth a trip.

One of my favorite places to shop. Great variety in clothing, bags, etc. As far as body jewelry goes, you’re pretty much covered at a very reasonable price. Plus, everyone is really helpful(When I first went several years ago, Lorenzo intimidated me haha but if you just say hey, ask how their day is going, strike up a convo, you immediately find yourself in their good graces). Walking space can get kinda tricky though, especially when the place is crowded.

I effing love this place! So so so so SOOOO much! I bought a crazy extravagant Indian pillow here for a pretty decent price. Horsefeathers is filled wall to wall, ceiling to floor with unique knick-knacks and chotchkies. Compared to other«hippie shops,» they understand the importance of both retail breadth and volume. There are large arrays of items, ranging from eclectic sculptures and artwork to Jamaican inspired handbags. I love their vast assortment of jewelry, perfume, and incense. I’m pretty much slowly, but surely turning in to a hippy from this shop’s influence alone. Granted, I’ve always been part of the ‘problem’; never the ‘solution’…SOYEAH A PSEUDO-HIPPY, IFYOUWILL. I’m ok with that. And to those who claim the manager lady is mean(whoever she is at the cash wrap), she is not. She is simply looking out for her store. If you want something, just ask… Nobody who works there bites, even if they appear to be preoccupied. Also I wuv da woofies!

This place is a real trip! It’s a sheer overload of merchandise, but that’s actually not a problem. It’s fun to sort through it all. There’s clothing, furniture, incense, soaps/skin care, products from all over the world. The staff are offbeat yet friendly; there’s also a shop-dog in back. If you need a hippie-fix, this is definitely your place to go!

Horsefeathers is the sort of eclectic store that most College towns had 2 or 3 of when I was in college. If you visit, plan to spend some time browsing what they have– it’s easy to miss the hidden treasures if you rush through the store too quickly.

This is a very interesting place. We discovered it when wandering downtown Waukegan a few years back and were very surprised by what we found. The place is full of all sorts of Tibetan and Nepalese incense, prayer flags, silver jewelry, body jewelry and clothes. It’s full of soaps and bath oils and colognes from all over. It houses thousands of Buddha statues, silks and canvas bags. We made a few interesting discoveries here like Tibetan silver dorjes and prayer wheels to be worn around the neck. Imagine my surprise when I uncovered a Tibetan silver melong: a small mirror that Tibetans use to deflect curses and to gaze into the future. It is also thee place to get body jewelry. No joke – nothing in the city compares to his selection or price. Got myself all the way from 16 gauge to 10 gauge with the great earrings he’s got here. The owner, Lorenzo, is a lot of fun and the place is open, as he says, 367 days a year. Like I said, it’s very interesting. If you’re in Waukegan you have to check it out.

Lorenzo runs an interesting business here; his business, his way. Gotta admire that sort of plucky independence. He runs sales at different times of the year, and is liable to declare a sale on something just because he gets a wild hair about it. The place is the buddha statue capital of Lake County, without a doubt. We come here for Himalayan incenses, the variety of buddhist prayer flags and the Tibetan/Nepalese tchochkes that they import. We have found some unsual antique Tibetan talismans mixed in among the export stuff in the jewelry cases. So, if you like incense-scented, cluttered«head shop»(he’s not. really.) sorts of places with tons of off-the-rack attitude, import clothes and mystic overtones, this is a place for you.
