I don’t even really like root beer but this root beer is SOGOOD. The best root beer I have ever tasted.

You come here for the atmosphere of a drive-in especially during the summer. Great for families or teenagers of all ages! The creamy root beer is served in mugs like they should be(no ice). Mugs only come in small or quart sizes. Large only in to go cups. The French fries are some of the best around. The oil must be cleaned regularly as the fries have good flavor and never greasy. The fries are the thin cut. And my favorite is the chili dogs or chili cheese dogs. Well maintained and very clean. I love the place for what it is intended for… Drive-in!

I’ve been coming here since I was just a little guy, and let me tell you, the root beer does not disappoint. Creamy, sweet, delicious, and unique. The food is what you’d expect: delicious and not what I’d call«health food.» The mini corn dogs are awesome, but you can’t really go wrong with anything on the menu! Simple, good, and cheap!

Used to visit often as I dated someone less than an eighth mile away. Great food. Always loved the root beer and fast service Will try to make effort to stop in again if I’m ever up that way.

I’m sadly disappointed after reading all the positive reviews. The hotdog was not an all beef hot dog. I ordered a chili dog and the chili tasted like canned Hormel’s Chili without beans. $ 2.81 for chili hot dog that was probably valued at a total cost of $.35. The homemade root beer lingered of cheap vanilla extract. An investment of an all beef hot dog and topping it with some true homemade chili and some real shredded cheddar cheese would have been the way to do this. Not worth the money!

I agree with the reviewers, this is a dime a dozen, and a good town attraction! Nice place to take the kids to eat, friends, and a sweet spot to stop during the summer! You must try their root beer floats and onion rings! They now accept cards!

Came up from Chicago for the Bears Packers game at Lambeau and stopped at John’s Root Beer. This place was absolutely amazing. I had the Italian Sausage with peppers onions and mustard and the Bacon Nacho Dog. The buns are steamed and the perfect match for the meat. The Root Beer is made from scratch and was a great way to wash down the dogs. If you are in the Milwaukee area you should definitely stop at John’s.

What a gem of a place this is! Was visiting from Boston and my bestie took us there for the famous Rootbeer float and the cheesy fries. Absolutely delicious! I am definitely going back there whenever we are town. Yumm!

Love! John’s has the Best rootbeer! Get a jug to go for your house :) only down side is you can’t bring your dogs in the outside sitting it’s understandable and I understand but on those long walks with the pup that rootbeer stand is a tease! Lol

Well butter my rump, and call me toast. This place is awesome with all the questionable colored hot dogs and delicious rootbeer you could ask for!

I’m definitely biased when writing this review since I grew up on the other side of the hill. On a good day my mom would send me over on my bike to pick up a gallon of tap root beer. The entire time I was vegetarian, one of my biggest cravings was a John’s hot dog with the works. They’re not fancy, but hey, a hot dog shouldn’t be fancy. In the summer there are a lot of picnic tables to relax on. If you’re coming from Milwaukee on bike, you can take the Oak Leaf Trail to the New Berlin trail and then meander a couple back streets to get there. It’s a nice day ride and that large root beer float will not only be earned, but will fuel your ride back.

I have so many fond memories of this place. My parents used to take me here after swimming lessons or as a treat on a day off.(I’m old enough to remember when there was a second stand on the west side of town on Summit as well, called Mike’s. I used to bike to that one when I was a kid.) I came back recently with my dad, about 20 years later. The root beer is still the most delicious root beer I’ve ever had, and the food is still greasy and perfect. Cheap, too. For anyone visiting Waukesha, this is a must. Ask around to find out when classic car night is too!

Waukesha gem right here. When I was a kid, I would buy their root beer by the gallon. Nothing better than a hotdog and a root beer sitting on one of their picnic benches during the summer. One correction — I’ve always called it John’s Root Beer — but maybe that’s just a local thing.

In reality it may not be 5 stars for everyone, but because I’ve been going here with my family since I was born(and grew up only 4 blocks away), it get’s nothing less from me. The root beer is unmatched in my opinion, and who doesn’t love going for a hot dog every now and then. Don’t make the mistake of getting your drink in the styrofoam cup, because root beer is meant to be served in the tall mugs at your disposal. Obviously summer is the best time to enjoy, but the beauty of John’s now is that it’s open year round. Like other fans, I find any reason I can to pass by when my belly calls. Enjoy!

First of all — it’s called John’s Root Beer Stand not John’s Drive-In. Second of all — how does this place not have a million reviews with 4 stars? This is hands down the best root beer I’ve ever had. I’m going to work off the assumption that nobody wants to give away their root beer swilling secret because such low reviews for this place is just not right. My boyfriend grew up going to John’s Root Beer and we make it a point to stop by every time we visit his family. They serve their root beer the best way — in chilled mugs. And I think they must make it with custard because this is the creamiest root beer in the world. It has just a hint of carbonation so it goes down extra smooth. It’s not too sweet and has that rich root beer flavor that other root beers brag about but don’t match. Every sip is just awesome. They serve it on tap, I’m not sure if they make it right there or if they have magic elves somewhere who whip up batches. Either way, this stuff is unique to them. Their food is fine. Hot dogs, fries, that kinda stuff. But it’s really the root beer that keeps us coming back. I wish I could take some back to Arizona with me. Have I mentioned that I like it? If you’re allergic to bees, beware. I don’t think we’ve ever gone there without bees trying to steal sips of root beer from our mugs. But it’s worth the threat of stings! If you haven’t gone to John’s yet — go! Just go. Now. And enjoy a frosty one for me. Yummmmmmmmmmmm.

We stopped in for some Root beers and a float. Service was quick. with good tasting Root beer. Wasn’t too hungry at the time but I hear they can make a mean hot dog and onion rings are delicious. They have plenty of seating at picnic tables. the kids have a small train and a car to climb on. I like the nostalgia of the place it has charm and I don’t mind the taste of Old fashioned root beer but the bathrooms could use a renovation as its last update might have been in the 50’s. 60’s 70’s? Hell I don’t know? It could be brighter inside and help people hit the target lol.
