I’m not gonna pretend this doesn’t sound ignorant. I didn’t know Piggly Wiggly existed except in Driving Miss Daisy. I am from freaking Los Angeles, California. I am still adapting to my Midwest life. Anyway! Recently moving to Waunakee, I’ve tried to explore Main St and its surroundings. Since Woodman’s is now a further distance, this is now my local grocer. I am somewhat having Woodman’s withdrawals. Price: PW is more expensive. Not too significant, but noticeable. Their Ice Mountain gallon of water is $ 0.75 more than Woodman’s. Their produce is an average of $ 0.70-$ 2.00 more. Their Jasmine rice is $ 5.00 more. Etc. You get the idea! Selections: For the most part, they have the majority of what I usually stock our fridge/freezer/pantry with. Not too many complaints here. Service: Friendly staff! Most of the cashiers appear to be late teens/early 20s. They make small talk. They pack stuff quickly. They are swift. Location: Close to home, so really ideal for when I’m in the middle of cooking and realize I forgot something. Hasn’t happened yet, but I anticipate it will. No randoms hanging out in front of the store like Woodman’s. I am still somewhat loyal to Woodman’s and will have to plan my visits there ahead of time. But having a PW closeby that provides the necessities + more is always a plus.

I am pleasantly surprised by this location. Cleaner and more organized than most other Piggly Wiggly locations. I do like their hot and cold food lunch area. It is pretty nice when you forget your lunch. Otherwise, this is a pretty run of the mill grocery store.

I have been shopping at Piggly Wiggly now for 4 years. Their prices are reasonable, the staff are all super friendly, and the store is very clean. They have gone out of their way to take note if I mentioned I couldn’t find an item and bring it into the store if it wasn’t something they had in stock. Wonderful small town grocery store!

After shopping at the grocery stores at some neighboring communities, I’m bumping the rating for the local Piggly Wiggly to 4 stars. Since I cook most meals from scratch, I rely on the produce and meat departments and both are well above average. I appreciate that they have steadily been increasing their stock of organic and international produce items. The staff at the meat counter have always helped me out when I need a cut that does not appear in the display counter. I also enjoy the friendly demeanor of the staff. The bakery is average, but that’s not a deal breaker for me since I bake my own bread. Ditto for the deli counter, but the rotisserie chicken is a pretty good value on those nights where I don’t have time to roast my own bird. I appreciate the weekly sales items. I’m finding that I am making fewer trips to Woodmans for dry goods by stocking up when items like pasta and flour go on sale. I also like the display of wines with 90+ ratings in the liquor department. I’ve had good success finding a decent bottle of wine from that display. The store has come a long way from when I first moved to Waunakee and I appreciate its efforts to continually improve.
