When I decided I needed to drop some serious poundage earlier this year, I elected convenience over variety. While the fitness center at the Waunakee Village Center is quite a bit smaller than than any of the health clubs in the area, it is close to where I live. That convenience meant actually getting to the gym, working out and getting value for my membership. What I like: * The fitness center is immaculate and the equipment is well maintained. There always is a staff member walking around with a spray bottle keeping things clean. * There’s lots of natural light. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, but after working out in places with with artificial lighting, it’s like night and day(pardon the obvious pun). * The fees are reasonable. A single membership is $ 300 annually and my health insurance picks up half the tab. * It’s not over crowded. Even during the busy periods in January and February, I could always get on a treadmill or elliptical machine. * The staff are cheerful and always helpful. What I don’t: * Weekend hours are not great. 7AM to 5PM on Saturdays and 9AM to 5PM on Sundays. The late opening time on Sunday is especially frustrating. * Classes cost extra and the good ones fill up very quickly. So if you’re living in the only Waunakee in the World and are looking for a great place to workout, definitely consider a membership at the Village Center.
