M by Mickie – Make-Up Artistry for All Occasions

We got married on Tuesday in Yosemite national park. Mickie did my makeup. I had never had such a thing done. She was amazing and put me at ease. She made me look so glamorous and natural all at the same time!!! Flawless!

She showed up on time and it was a pleasure to have her do our hair and makeup for my friend’s wedding. Prior to the wedding, she was very prompt at responding to my emails. She also got all three of us ladies done in time for the wedding, so there was no last-​minute rushing around. She did a great job and knew her stuff. I would recommend her for any future brides their bridal parties.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Mickie… You are amazing! Getting ready for my wedding we realized my flowers (for my hair) had wilted. We felt some pressure b/​c of time, but Mickie was able to improvise and used the green berries and did her magic!
It was a full day of photos and hiking outdoors. Thankfully my make-​up lasted throughout the adventure.

If you are lucky enough to get married in Yosemite National Park or any of the places nearby, do yourself a favor and book Mickie Hanson. She is phenomenal and so talented. I booked a consultation with her a few months before my wedding so we could plan my Wedding Day Look, and it was worth the time, effort, and pennies. We created a beautiful look for me, and because of that consult, she had more time to spend on my mom and MOH. Her positive energy in helping me look and feel so good that it carried me throughout the day. Mickie’s hair and makeup held up despite the wind, hugs and kisses and tears, and all the running around with our photographer to capture beautiful memories. Towards the evening, several of our guests at our wedding dinner party commented on how was it possible that I still looked as fresh and beautiful as I did in the morning. I think that is one of the most wonderful comments I had that day.

Mickie’s work was exceptional — she did a great job on the hair and makeup for my wedding, as well as the hair and makeup for my mom. My 2-​star rating is due to insufficient time in the schedule to get all of the ladies done. She spent over an hour on my mom, but then had less than an hour for the other two ladies, resulting in one person not getting hers done. If you are arranging services for multiple people, suggest that you firm up a detailed schedule in advance. My request for a refund was denied with no response to my request to discuss by phone.

Thank you SOOOOOO much for making my hair and make up! Thank you for your patience and open mind. You did a lot for me and I will remember my wedding day as one of the best days of my life. My sister is a make up artist and I was VERY picky when I tried to find the stylist for myself. I know how it «must be» and Mickie did exactly what I asked!!! And the hair was great even on the NEXT DAY!!! We had a small photo shoot with horses and all I did — was just used a hair accessories and my hair was perfect! Million thanks! You are awesome !! I recently had the pleasure of working with Mickie in Yosemite. Not only is she sweet and kind, she is also a fabulous make up artist! She has a huge supply of makeup on hand and did a great job with both natural and edgy makeup styles. I highly recommend her and hope to work with her again soon!

Holy crap I wish I could have brought Mickie home with me! My hair and makeup was perfect, and I was telling my husband on the drive home today, that was literally the most beautiful I’ve ever felt!
My very intimate wedding in Bass Lake was planned very last minute and up until about 10 days before I had intended to do my own hair and makeup. I obviously changed my mind and was able to book Mickie because her own anniversary plans had just fallen through… thank you wedding gods for smiling upon me!
When I spoke to her on the phone, I immediately feel in love. She was fun and sweet, and I could immediately tell she was a professional. Mickie was asking questions to get an idea of what I was going for, since I was coming in from out of town and we wouldn’t be able to do a trial session, and WOW, she nailed it!
The morning of the wedding she showed up at our cabin right on time, full makeup kit in tow. She got set up quickly and we started moving along. We got my hair in curlers and moved on to my makeup. She mixed my face makeup so it was an absolute perfect match to my skin color and blended my face perfectly into my much more tan chest. I wanted natural looking makeup, and I couldn’t believe that the amount of makeup I needed to cover my pre-​wedding stress blemishes could look natural, but it did so I can only assume that the M in M by Mickie must stand for magician.
My hair was also exactly what I wanted and held perfectly all day. There wasn’t a hair out of place or a loose bobby pin despite the adventure I took my hair on in Yosemite!
Mickie is truly an artist and you can tell she loves what she does. She made my morning so wonderful. We really hit it off so we spent the entire two hours chatting and laughing. Mickie really made me feel like she was as excited about my day as I was, and that made the whole experience even better. Her personality and kindness just radiates and my family that met her was equally impressed with her presence.
My only regret was not getting a picture with her! Thank you Mickie, a million times thank you!

The Pros:
I haven’t seen my pictures yet but I know that I looked great in person and even my hyper critical father liked the makeup and hair.
I didn’t break the bank which was important since I had planned to do my own hair and makeup.
Mickie’s husband came with her and he had nice energy.
Mickie and her husband seemed like nice people and I felt good giving them my business.
Mickie was very helpful answering my questions and being available leading up to the event.
Mickie did a good job with my curly crazy hair finding a look that would be romantic and controlled.
Mickie kept my look appropriate but also gave me some unique touches to fit my personality. She was very good about giving suggestions and you should take her suggestions she does know what she is doing.
She talked me through my decisions and explained her thinking.
She listened to me.
I went to the Brace Bridge dinner after my wedding and I am sure I was the poorest girl at the ball but I felt my makeup was among the best in the room.
She made me feel good about myself.
Room to Improve:
I felt pressure to let Mickie take pictures and post them and she was pushy about asking me to do a review. I understand that it is virtually impossible to get your bunsiness going without these online reviews but she needs to work on her approach. I am not writing this review because of the pressure but inspite of it. I had offered to provide her with a picture from my photographer but she posted pictures from my trial sesssion before I even had my wedding and this was upsetting to me. I may have signed a release at some point but I thought she would show me what she planned to post ahead of time. I didn’t want to piss off the person who I was counting on to make me look good so I didn’t say anything to her at the time. I suspect she would have backed off had I said something but I wasn’t going to risk it.
My eyelashes came loose early in the day and I was in the middle of nowhere with no glue to put them on and no eyeliner to fill in the space that would have been left if I pulled them off so I had to have them half falling off. I would suggest you ask her for some glue or bring your own (I am sure she would bring you some glue if you asked since she is very nice).
Mickie didn’t have any hair spray with her even though she was doing my hair. We used my hair spray but it isn’t very strong so my hair didn’t make it past two hours before I had to add some bobby pins.
My trial session did not give me much of an idea what I would look like on my big day. My hair and makeup looked completely different. I like my hair better during the trial but my makeup was way better on my actual wedding day.
Bottom Line:
Mickie might not be the best match for every bride but she was exactly what I needed and if I were going to have pictures taken in the future I would hire her again so long as she didn’t take any pictures of me and just waited to be provided pictures. I did not have a big long wedding so my look did not need to last more than a few hours for pictures and it did. Most of my look lasted well into the night minus eyelashes, a few hairs and lipstick (but no lipstick is gonna make it through four hours of eating). I suspect Mickie will make adjustments based on this review so others shouldn’t have to worry about running into the same problems I did.
