Wayland traces it’s American history back to the 1630’s when it was a Puritan village. It has played a part in American history ever since. The Grout — Heard house was built in 1740 and today is the museum of the very active Wayland historical society. Each room is full of early American history and a fascinating look into the past lives of everyday people. To be fare it’s not 5 stars because it’s laid out like some well funded Museum in New York but because of the care the volunteers have taken to preserve the past and present it to the public that makes history come alive. Anyone interested in pre-1776 American history should make this a stop on their tour of the area. Open hours are limited but if you email them they may be able to have a volunteer open the place and give you a private tour to fit your schedule.
