I really wanted to give this place 4 stars. I work between here, Baltimore, and DC, so I try to get my workouts anywhere I can. I got a membership here last year and, for awhile, it was nice. Clean, quiet, hometown gym with a number of elderly members that have always been very pleasant and friendly. The staff are helpful and never give off that«bothered» look when asked a question. Evenings can be busy but manageable. The problem is the«locals.» Wow. It’s just a few guys but damn can they really be a pain in the arse. This summer is when I was«introduced» to them. One guy called me a faggot as he walked by me in the dumbbell section, then proceeded to whisper with his friends and point in my direction. What is this, grade school? Listen, I’m a normal looking guy, approaching middle age. I have a family, mortgage, white picket fence, pot belly – the whole boring nine yards. Couldn’t be more average if I tried. I truly have no idea what this gentleman’ problem is, but this still happens every time I see him or his chums. He has a smaller/louder version of himself trailing behind him, eyeballing me and a few others like me, and a couple larger guys that usually keep quiet. Of course, these hooligans keep their mouths shut around the bodybuilders. It wouldn’t be such an annoyance if I didn’t happen to see this fellow and his pack members every month. Once, I walked in on them in the locker room taking pictures of each other half-naked. Now that was awkward. I think I was involuntarily in one of those pics, too. Around Halloween, my wife had a few days off so she came up to visit and we decided to get a quick workout in the morning. Sure enough, same guys are there, making noise, looking for trouble. Whatever, I think. Ignore them. 10 minutes later, I look over to see my wife on the treadmill being harassed by one of these goons. Nothing serious, but enough to make her feel uncomfortable. My membership is about to hit the one year mark and I think I’ll cancel at that point. Not to sound like a wuss, but I really don’t need the hassle of a few bullies at my age. One I can deal with, but a handful is another issue entirely, especially when my wife is involved. Great gym, but not worth having to look over your shoulder every 5 minutes. I sure hope these shenanigans don’t happen to the elderly members.

I was amazed to find such a giant, clean, comprehensive gym in such a small town. The staff is friendly. I especially love the cardio theater where I could zone out watching a movie on a treadmill. There’s a ton of weight equipment, the cardio machines are spotless and have a ton of channels, the tanning beds are awesome, and the smoothies are yummy.

What a great addition to the commuity this business has been. It is nice to see a gym where the owner personally takes the time to call or email members with help, ideas, and suggestions to achieve their fitness goals. I find the staff to be most freindly and they always welcome members with a smile and hello daily. The trainers are most efficient and sincere and take time to explain various machines and weights even during complimentary sessions. The TV issue has been resolved more than satisfactory, the cardio theater is top notch, and all equipment appears as new and in working order. David Girio, Waynesboro, pa.

I’ve been a Gold’s member for years and travel across the USA. This is by far the worst I have been to. The building is falling apart, leaks, etc. The staff are busy texting or on computers and don’t care to respond. Lately I’ve seen roaches in the locker rooms. The TVs only get 15 channels of basic cable. I think this place is a sinking ship and unfortunately I made the mistake of locking in a contract. Don’t make my mistake.
