After reviewing places online and meeting staff, my family and I chose Keeneland to care for my dad. Our impression was that the place was not fancy but that the staff was friendly and he would feel comfortable. My father has been in and out of rehab facilities, home care, and nursing homes for years depending on his needs. He and my family have never been treated with lack of dignity or respect until he spent a few days at Keeneland. The nurses seem bothered by his conditions — not talking, not eating, and occasionally walking. I have visited family in nursing homes many times and these are not extraordinary conditions. They rudely spoke about his conditions and arrangements in front of staff, my dad, and other patients. If this tone and lack of respect was visible to paying customers, I cannot imagine how patients are treated when families are not around. There was not elder abuse that we know of to report but feel like it is worth writing a review to potentially help others in making choices for their loved ones. Choosing a facility is hard and there is never a good or great choice, this was clearly the wrong choice.
