I think this place has the best Chile Rellano I have ever had. I think everyone enjoyed their food. I was surprised a chalupa was a hard flat corn tortilla covered in beans and lettuce. It came with my number 29. The tamale and Chile were perfect and very filling. Kids liked the chicken tenders and fries. Wait staff was busy but did try to keep our drinks full. Salsa bar had some good choices. The free chips and salsa were a nice start to the meal. The waiter kept them full the entire meal.

I have tried this restaurant a half dozen times. Every time, the waitstaff is preoccupied and it seems like there are as many waiters as there are customers. They are generally standing around, talking and laughing among themselves, as though the customers are just a necessary evil of running a restaurant. There is definitely a language barrier and that is perfectly fine, but when the staff uses that as an excuse to not interact with the customers, there is a problem. The whole experience is a little like going to a nail salon where the woman who is doing your nails says two words to you with a frown on her face. The she proceeds to carry on a very animated conversation with her fellow employees in Vietnamese, making you feel like a nuisance. The food is not anything special. Most recently, the salad I ordered came with a plastic packet of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing laying on top of it. In a town where good dining is available everywhere you go, I won’t go back to La Carreta.

I can wait. I’m a patient person. However, when three other tables that came in fifteen minutes after us, get their food before is… cut to ten minutes later and I still don’t have my food… we have a problem. I have a problem. It’s not that busy. We are ordering drinks and obviously not in a hurry, but COMEON. I didn’t see a manager or hear an utterance of an apology for the SLACK service. I know what we ordered wasn’t high maintenance. I was a server once upon a time. I NEVER tip below 20%. Ever. I had to tonight and it bothered me. Get it together, we as Weaverville locals, won’t be back for some time.

We arrived after checking their website 30 minutes before closing. While we were deciding what to order, we were told«hurry up… the kitchen is closing soon.» Literally. When we got our food, we asked to speak with the manager. He told us that they close early sometimes. This was weird for a Friday night with more than 25 patrons still in the restaurant. When it became clear that the manager did not care how we felt about our treatment, we decided to take our food and go. I left a big Zero in the tip section for the first time in my life. On my way out a waitress called me «Puta.» DO yourself a favor. Do not eat here unless you like rude employees and cockroaches.

If I could give no stars, I would. We had the worst restaurant experience ever.

RUDE, RUDE, ANDDID I MENTIONHOWRUDETHESEGUYSWERE? While on vacation from Florida, we stopped here to wait for a friend in the acute care center next door(wasps are vicious). As we walked in we asked to sit outside, but the(extremely rude) man who asked us if there were two of us by flashing two fingers and walking away was not listening. When we ‘reminded’ him that we would like to sit outside, he just shoved the two menus into my hand and said, «Sit where you want.» and walked away. Upon his return we asked for an ashtray, an item the guy had never even heard of. He said he’d bring us a cup. When he came back, he said we can’t smoke on the patio. We stated that we are outside and he just shrugged and said, «Rules man, what can you do?», then he walked away. When it came time to order, my friend asked for a vodka and Sprite. As the ‘waiter’ walked away, he mumbled, «I’ll be back with your Sprite.», at which time ‘reminded’ the guy, who had not been actually listened to anything we said, that my friend had ordered a vodka and Sprite. But, he was already half way in the door to go get the Sprite with which he returned. My friend finally got his(underwhelming) drink, our friend was finished at the acute care center. By the time she sat down with us, she could already tell that the everyone in the place was apparently rude, as well, so we paid for he crap-drink and ran from that place like it was on fire. I suppose our first clue should have been that we were in an empty restaurant in the first place. Needless to say, even if I did live in NC, I would never be a patron of this restaurant, or even its franchise locations. And they call this the ‘service industry’. What a joke.

This restaurants food is very greasy very nasty is not worth the price that you pay if it was me I would fire every one of them and get a shelf in there that knows what to do for something supposed to be authentic Mexican food is authentic Greek Isle I thought it was an oil slick I would not give them a star for anything five minutes after leaving there so much grease in the food that it made me throw up they have hurt me on Mexican food for a life I will never eat out for Chinese and Mexican food ever again I think they should close their doors and not ever open again I think the health department should go there and check it out

It was a last minute decision to eat here while attending to some business in Weaverville. Service was okay but definitely had an indifferent vibe. The complimentary bean dip was watery and salsa wasn’t anything special. Speaking of salsa, I had no clue there was a salsa bar until we were walking out. They didn’t bother to even mention it. I ordered the fish taco plate. It arrived with rice and a lackluster small side of, what I assume to be, taco toppings and a mediocre fish taco sauce. Weirdly, no refried beans. I’ve eaten so many fish tacos in my life and these are the absolute worst ever. Breaded fish sticks over-cooked in deep fryer oil obviously way overdue for a change. I struggled to finish one of the three tacos because the dish was $ 9.50. I would have been much happier eating at the breakfast chain a few doors down.

The food is mediocre. The staff was flat out rude. We arrived around 9pm and from the moment we sat down until the moment we left I felt like they were ready for us to pay and leave. Around 9:20 after ordering a couple of drinks and still pondering the menu the waiter rudely stated that they stopped taking food orders in 10 minutes. They never asked if I had a question about the menu, if our food was okay, or if we needed anything more to drink. They started wiping the bar down and spraying a ridiculous amount of Windex all around us to where I started to wonder if they were serious? I asked my sister if I was being pranked. It just kept getting worse by the minute there. LOL Did they not care there was someone nearby trying to enjoy a dinner after a long day at work??? They even at one point were staring and speaking Spanish and laughing at my sister and I. They tossed us the check about 5 minutes after the food arrived and then they allll stood there around the bar obviously waiting for us to leave. We threw back the last sips of our drinks and my sister even said as we were putting out coats on «so do y’all have to have everyone out of here before any of you guys can leave? Or is there a party y’all are going to or something??» And the one guy laughed and said«party. we’re gunna get fucked up.» WOW. El Chapala has MUCH better food and customer service… I’ll definitely stay loyal to them now!

The food is great, it’s your traditional Mexican food. It’s located in a very convenient location right off the interstate in Weaverville, I can get there in 5 minutes. Awesome staff, and really fast service. Your food comes out like 5 – 10 minutes after ordering it which is great. They have a little salsa bar and their margaritas are AWESOME. I like this location a lot and the one on Hendersonvile Rd but not so much the one on Merrimon.

No bueno! The chips were bad, salsa was bad, fajitas were OK, my wife’s burritos were OK… over all I did not like it or think it was worth the 26 bucks I paid for takeout.

They allowed a lady to bring a non-service dog in and she kept it in her shirt at her neck. The lady did not wash her hands while visiting the salsa bar with the dog. I Will Never Eat Here Again! Dogs are not allowed per the health department. What else do they think is acceptable.

This is our families go to restaurant. We could possibly be considered«regulars». Portions are perfect and prices are very reasonable. Plus I love that they have strawberry margaritas on the rocks(lots of places only offer frozen). My son’s favorite thing in the world is the bean dip and salsa bar and I understand completely. Not and particular dish stands out. It is pretty typically Mexican food, but that is why I like it. Which is a good thing. Because we crave that often. Only reason it gets 4 and not 5 stars is I have yet to find any place that matches my Mexican food from New Mexico, Texas or Colorado. I may be a bit bias.

I don’t normally write negative reviews concerning anything, instead I just don’t say anything and just move on. Tonight, I placed my order of the burrito mexicano plate. I pointed at it while ordering which we all do subconcioisly, and the waitress repeated it back to me. The burrito mexicano is a chicken burrito and a beef burrito covered with red sauce and cheese with rice and beans on the side. When the meal comes, a gentleman who wasn’t our server sets the food down. I can tell immediately it wasn’t what I ordered. It was one large rolled up something with a meaty type gravy type sauce that smelled like something I was not hungry for. So. I waited for the waitress to come back and when she arrives I explain I got someone else’s order. She told me I was wrong and she knew better than me what I ordered. She wanted to banter back and forth. I just wanted her to make it right. I didn’t want what was served to me, because I didnt order it. She said I could have some guacamole with it if I like… I said no. She says well im sorry and just walks away. It seemed more important to her to be right and win the argument, then to just correct it for me. The rest of our stay she wouldn’t look or speak to me. For 15 more minutes I shared my wife’s plate with her and just left mine on the edge of the table table. Still no response to correct anything from the waitress. We asked for a to go box and just threw it away when we got home. You just lost a customer.

It was so-so. We only had a 10 minute wait on a busy Friday night so that was great. After being seated, we waited quite a while before someone took our drink order. The chips and salsa were average. The chips did not taste super fresh and the salsa was very bland. I asked the waiter if they had a spicier salsa or hot sauce and he looked at me like I was nuts. he pointed to the«Salsa bar» and said I could find something there(acting like I should have already known that) I ventured over to the salsa bar. Because the salsas were lacking any kind of identifying information, I had no idea whether I was taking a hot or mild salsa. Unfortunately, the 3 I sampled were all also bland… I ordered the carnitas. The portion was very generous but, again, just so-so nothing spectacular. Throughout our dining experience, the service was slow… I don’t live around here and most likely will not be back this way to visit soon, if I do, I will find a different mexican restaurant to visit.

We had a pretty flippin’ awesome experience here — especially compared to the other mediocre reviews posted here on Unilocal.I was hesitant at first because of the other reviews, but this restaurant was conveniently located in between Asheville and the cabin we were renting for the weekend in Barnardsvile, so logistically it made sense to dine here. Thank the Lord of Tortillas that we did. We had a group of 10 vegetarians who were putting in a variety of difficult orders with multiple substitutions — and the staff at La Carreta accommodated us wonderfully. They got all of our orders correct(not always an easy thing with so many meal modifiers like ourselves) and were prompt with salsa/chips and drink refills. And… the food was good. Our vegetable enchiladas were on point. The vegetables on the inside were grilled and seasoned perfectly. Plus, they had a salsa bar on the side. I’ve never seen this before at an actual sit-down Mexican restaurant. The wifey fell in love with the salsa verde. Another plus was the décor on the inside. Even though this restaurant is located in a small strip mall, the décor inside was well done and thought out. This wasn’t your run of the mill, hole-in-the-wall Mexican establishment. We would highly recommend this and would definitely come back if ever in the area again. If you’re staying north of Asheville and don’t want to drive into the city to eat some good Mexican, this would be an excellent choice.

Did the take out thing as we didn’t feel like sitting at a restaurant, and my sister/brother-in-law were moving and needed more packing time. Ordered the beef chimichangas. Not bad on the beef, but there was way too much sauce in the container that destroyed the lettuce/guac/sour cream. Also had a chicken quesadilla… or thought that’s what we ordered, came in as a big soft taco with everything in it, was also soggy from all the sauce. What I ate was good, what I didn’t wasn’t. I’m guessing they are much better eating in? have to try that next time thru.
