Good cheap rooms and friendly old lady owner. Typical 1960s TV and bedding. Its cheap and usually where we stay when visiting but the rust colored carpet reminds you that you get what pay for! $ 35 a night I think we paid!

We stayed here with a friend in May 2013 during our motorcycle trip. We rented the cheapest rooms — $ 40 per night since we were riding all day and only needed a place to crash. The exterior looks rustic, the interior could use some repairs. In my room, the vinyl on the cheap chair was cracked, dowels in the windows to keep them open, rust in the shower, tired carpet and old bed sheets freaked me out at first. I stripped the bedding looking for bed bugs — found none — and in the process I noticed that despite all the disrepair, the place was clean. At dawn and dusk, the deer wonder through the property, and song birds put on a great concert. You can walk to any of the dozen or so restaurants in town. If you are looking for a flat screen TV, large room, bathtub, and room service, go somewhere else. If you are looking for a clean place to crash, you can’t beat the price.

One definition of the word ‘rustic’ is having a simple charm that is typical of the countryside and that definition suits the Red Mill quite well. It would be a stretch to call this place romantic and it makes a Motel6 seem downright luxurious. There are no chocolates on the pillows here. The Red Mill is nestled into a hillside off the main street in Weaverville via a very short dirt and gravel road. The red-sided office and cabins are lined up in a half-circle formation. My wood-paneled room was spartan but on a damp December evening the small electric heater made the room toasty in no time. The bedding may not meet Martha Stewart’s aesthetic standards but it’s clean and comfortable. As the night’s stillness settled on the hillside, I felt as if I were a guest at a friend’s house and it made falling asleep a comforting feeling.
