Recently I found myself in Weaverville staying at the Motel Trinity. The very nice Tow truck driver(yeah, THAT’S why I was staying in Weaverville) mentioned that we should check out Susie’s Bakery in the morning. The following morning was Labor Day so there was some question as to whether or not Susie would be opening. That question was answered when, at 2am, he(the coolest tow truck driver ever) saw Susie heading into work. At 2 am, did you catch that part?! That’s because she makes everything from scratch. Oh Snap! Now I was super jazzed to try it. The pastry cases will have you drooling. It all looks sinful. Since it was breakfast time we opted for heartier fare and ordered a breakfast croissant sans meat and my companion ordered a breakfast burrito, both were bomb tasty but the croissant was clearly the winner. I kept eyeing the pastry case. Full or not I was going no where unless that almond croissant was coming with me… and a raspberry danish. I chose wisely. I didn’t get to consume the yummy until the next day and it was STILL amazingly good. I can’t say I would make the drive into BFE for them but I would most definitely stop if I was anywhere in the vicinity.

Rude! Completely unwelcoming. First lesson… any establishment that feels the need to put a prominent sign up that says, ‘We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone,’ is probably not a welcoming and inclusive place to patronize. I couldn’t tell if the lady just didn’t have any retail sales etiquette or simply not interested in serving us. All I know is I wanted to get out of there quickly as the energy of the place gave me a sunken feeling in the pit of my stomach. As for the donuts, just to be fair, can’t tell you. They could’ve been good, but didn’t have a chance to try them.

Wow, they have the best donuts in Northern California and possibly the West. They also serve great biscuits and gravy, sandwiches, and burritos. Love to stop at this place on my way to work.

While staying next door at Motel Trinity(which I also reviewed), we were informed that Susie’s Bakery had delicious baked goods. So we woke up at 5:00 am and walked over to get some donuts. They were hot and fresh. The apple fritters were to die for. The chocolate and maple bars were fluffy and had great flavor. I was also very happy about the prices! If I’m ever in Weaverville again, I will definitely be stopping in for an apple fritter!
