My wife and I decided to stop here on the way home from our sons basketball game yesterday for lunch. My wife and I hadn’t been here in quite some time and we were both craving Mexican as were our son and his friend who were both with us. While the service and ambiance here are really great, the food seemed hit or miss especially since our first time coming here. My wife and son each had a chicken quesadilla of their own and his friend had the sizzling fajitas, everyone really enjoyed their choices. Unfortunately for me I went with the tortilla soup and steak street tacos and it just wasn’t a good choice. The tortilla soup had a very acidic flavor to the broth as opposed to the rich and slightly spicy versions I am used to in Providence. I had really high hopes for the tacos as well but aside from the beef, the flavor profile wasn’t very appetizing. I really want to give this place the benefit of the doubt but when we got our bill I couldn’t believe that it was almost $ 100 for the four of us. I think the safe bet is to do what we normally do and take a trip into Providence where we know we’ll get real deal flavor and great prices.

I had high hopes for this place because there isn’t a really good Mexican restaurant in the area. Service was erratic — our guacamole dip came after our meal was served. Not all of the entrees came out at the same time. Some food was bland — some was great. It is a new place, hopefully they will get the kinks ironed out — I’ll try it again — fingers crossed.

I love coming here and strongly recommend the tamales. My only issue with this place is that the food is seasoned differently every time. Some days, the sauces are mild and other days they’re super hot. Wish there was more consistency.

The one in Spencer is far superior for their service. I’ve been here several times and had several sub par servers, especially if you eat at the bar. The girl with the fake red hair is awful if you want to order food. I just wanted steak tacos with lettuce and cheese, instead of the fancy way that they come on the menu, which lists them around $ 14. I could’ve ordered them that way and just picked things out, however I don’t like to waste food so I asked for them the way I wanted. When I get the bill she charged me $ 17.45 which is ridiculous. I asked why it was so expensive and she says with a smile, «because of the way you worded your order.» She seemed triumphant, like she was proud of tricking me out of extra money even though she didn’t tell me while I was ordering that it would be 30% extra. I could’ve ordered the carne asada for less money. Don’t know why someone would gloat about ripping someone off. There are a few servers that I know from Spencer so I will wait for them rather than going to the bad ones. The food is good here too, but if I’m halfway between the two would go to Spencer all day.

Food was good to great, atmosphere was great. But the service was TOP notch. Even on a busy Saturday night we were treated like we were the only ones in the place. Also the prices seemed very reasonable.

Over priced in my opinion. You can buy the taco and fajita kits at your grocery store and it tastes better than the food there, not much flavor. I asked for some HOT sauce and there hottest sauce was just as hot as Tabasco. Service was awful.

We just had an awesome dinner. Our food was served quickly, hot, and delicious. Our waiter was polite and personal and the restaurant was clean and bright. We will be going back again. T.

Walk in and forget youre at a strip mall. Mexicali is pricey, but often have groupons and if you sign up for the email list they will send coupons. good drinks and good food. Great Décor!

Great margaritas! Don’t bother with the taco salad though, it was only meat, lettuce and cheese. That’s it. Also, the appetizers aren’t that great. Great atmosphere and most of the staff is incredibly nice and attentive.

Highly impressed with the authentic cuisine, the margaritas, the ambiance and most importantly the service! Please keep it up, it’s the only good restaurant around here!

So let me start by saying I am not a food snob, self proclaimed foodie, or food critic. I’m usually pretty satisfied with an average meal and a couple beers for a decent price. Decided to try Mexicali in Webster for the first time, as I have had a decent time in the past at their Spencer and Holden locations. I showed up with my girlfriend on a Tuesday night around 7:00. Place was empty — which might be expected for a Tuesday, although it is a new restaurant in an area that doesn’t have much other Mexican food alternatives. We sat at a high top table at the bar, and were greeted by the bartender who apparently takes care of all the tables in the bar area as well — more on him later. Ordered two different Margaritas, one with a salt rim, one with a sugar rim. When we received them, they were reversed. No big deal, we dealt with it — even though they were $ 9 bucks a pop. I ordered a Mexicali Sampler… it was just alright. Standard beans and rice with tacos. Edible but nothing special they forgot the sour cream I asked for but brought it out when I asked. My girlfriend ordered a taco salad in a tortilla bowl and it wasn’t very good all. Soggy tortilla bowl because of all the water from the salad/grease from the ground beef. A giant mound of lettuce on top that wasn’t dressed, no seasonings or anything. Just a big soggy bowl of flavorless meat in a pool of water topped with a giant mountain of plain lettuce. Not what you’re hoping for in a $ 9 salad. Chips and salsa were solid — no complaints there. Now to the worst part, which was the bartender/server. First off, this guy was definitely high out of his mind or he was hammered. No if ands or buts about it. His eyes were droopy and bloodshot, he was slurring and he was just flat out awkward. He called us Amigos, Amigas and a few other random nicknames and really wasn’t making much sense. He came back on a couple occasions because he couldn’t remember what we ordered. There were two woman sitting at the bar in front of us, and he cared a lot more about hitting on them than he did dealing with his customers. I’m not talking about a little flirting here and there. I’m talking about his arms draped over them, asking them private questions and just being annoying to everyone else around him. We weren’t the only people in that bar area that he said«sorry about that» to multiple times because he had no idea what planet he was on. Overall, the food was average/below average, the drinks were definitely overpriced and the service, well, it kind of sucked. Probably not going back.

Great atmosphere, food and service. The décor is also awesome. Model on tap, what else do you need?
