In 2010, my husband promised me a t-shirt quilt for Valentine’s Day. I plucked all of my old college tees and put them in a bag, placed them in a closet, and tried to get him to research how to get a quilt made. It never happened, and the t-shirts sat in the back corner of our closet for several years. Then I came across Kent Quilts on facebook and loved the pictures of college t-shirt quilts. I contacted Michelle about creating a quilt. Her web site has a thorough explanation of the process and prices along with photos of previous quilts. She answered all of my questions on preparing the shirts, shipping them, ordering special fabric for the quilt, and work time. Communication was seamless! I chose to make a 16-shirt quilt. She was able to make custom squares from the front and back of certain shirts. My whole quilt was themed for The University of Texas and Austin — with shirts from college, my internship, and Waterloo Ice House. She helped me pick out special Texas fabric from JoAnn’s which she ordered and I just had to send her money to cover it. In the end, I got an extraordinary and one-of-a-kind piece that will be warm, comfortable, and nostalgic all at once! I am very impressed with her artistry and professionalism and highly recommend Kent Quilts for a special piece for yourself or a friend.
