NY Waterway Ferry Terminal Lincoln Harbor

This ferry is never on time, overpriced, and the Manhattan bus service is unreliable.
The app, which is the only way to buy a ticket on the NJ side, is buggy and prone to crashing. If this happens, the rude ferry staff invite you to wait for the next ferry rather than confirming fare on board.
Finally, some of the Masters who operate the ferries seem unfamiliar with U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Rules. For example: sounding a «prolonged blast» of the whistle well shorter than the prescribed 4 – 6 seconds may confuse other marine traffic as to the ferry’s intentions.
Utilize an alternative if at all feasible.

This is much less of a «terminal» than it is a singular ferry dock — no employees, no ticket office, no nonsense… just a sign, a schedule, and instructions to download the app on your phone to buy a ticket — all getting you to midtown in about 6 minutes.
I’ve only been taking the ferry to work for a month now and I’ve seen quite a few people turned around by the futuristic premise this terminal operates on.
Do I have a smartphone? What is an app? Can I buy a ticket on the Google?
If you are (or can pretend to be) a guest at the Sheraton you can buy a ticket there, and if you can’t get the phone option working and the Sheraton turns you down… the 14^th street terminal in Hoboken has ticket booths and is a relatively short walk.
When it is cold /​raining there is a gazebo that offers some relief, and there are a few benches to wait on outside should the weather be nice.
Otherwise, this is pretty much the platform 9 (¾) of the NY Waterway — I’m sure you’ve walked by it a bunch of times but never really knew it was there. Then you found it, and it was great, except for that time Dobby did his thing and made you run into the wall.

Probably good for a fun ride for tourists, but commuters should think twice. The ferry is scheduled to arrive every 15 minutes beginning at 715am but generally by the third trip you can ignore the schedule, they run late constantly. At the terminal on the NY side, the buses are released based on the Port Imperial ferries arriving, meaning you can sit and wait on a bus for 15 minutes before it gets moving. Add to that the usual midtown traffic, it can take an hour to get from Lincoln Harbor to 50^th and 6^th. The bus can get you where you’re going faster and is less than half the cost
