The krugen and cinnamon roll coffee cake were delightful — but we were most impressed with the supremely friendly and helpful older gentleman who greeted and served us. What a small town gem!

I was greeted by an older gentleman, whose welcoming smile was as warm as the pastries he just removed from the oven. I bought one of everything and they were very delicious. The pastries were lightly sweet and flavorful(unlike the crap that’s overdoused with sugar). Words does not do them justice, you have to taste the pastries to experience the bliss.

Stayed just down the road from this bakery at the Resort at The Mountain. Stopped in with my husband on our way out of town looking for breakfast sandwiches, which they did not have, only baked goods. A big group had just left, leaving us the only 2 customers in the small, quaint shop. We asked right away and knew they didn’t have what we were looking for, but stayed to chat for few minutes before leaving to get breakfast elsewhere(it just so happened there was a huge fire at the resort we were staying at that night, but that’s a story for another time). So the owners were the only two working, the sweetest husband and wife duo. Just super friendly and nice people. While talking about the fire and other local topics the smell was just too irresistible, I knew there was no way I could leave without getting something. The case had many delectable looking treats, but I had to go with the little lemon cookies with powdered sugar on top. The gentleman owner also mentioned their coconut macaroon recipe had taken many times to perfect, but they had finally gotten it down l, so I had to try that out too! I hadn’t planned to eat cookies for breakfast, but that’s the beauty of adulthood eh? These were just incredible. The lemon cookies are the best texture; super soft and chewy and melt in your mouth. I much prefer this to a crunchy cookie! The macaroon was great too! The perfect amount of gooey and sweetness balanced with the shredded coconut. Definitely stop in if you’re in the area.

I think the reviews to date capture the essence of this wonderful place — small family business owned and run by a couple(the husband was working but I didn’t see the wife). He was probably in his late 70s/80s(I do know he’s been married 56 years) and is originally from Wisconsin(loved his accent!). There was a full price list on a whiteboard but not everything was available — things are made on rotation. Like a true salesman the owner let us try some pumpkin muffin and I had to buy one. I also got the blueberry coffee cake, a piece of sweet coconut and a lemon cake. It was all delicious and the experience of buying like something out of It’s a Wonderful Life. This is an oasis of America at its best.

They were out of pretty much everything when I arrived, but the owner was a true gem. The cookies were delicious as well!

Looking for a sweet treat while on vacation and stopped in this place. Smells absolutely amazing inside and only wanted a cookie going in but came out with more, everything looked amazing and the baker was the nicest man ever! Will definitely be back tomorrow.

I wish they had a sign on the road so people driving by on the hwy can see it! I discovered this place just by driving around getting to know the neighborhood since I’m new in town. Totally worth stopping by for a piece of coffee cake! Can’t wait to try the rest of the goodies!

These extremely friendly bakers are also very talented. Our family of five stopped in for breakfast before leaving Welches and we are sorry we hadn’t visited earlier in our trip. They have a good selection of high quality items — something to satisfy everyone in our family including our picky eater. Items include outstanding coffee cakes(there were at least a half dozen choices), mini-pies and cookies. We devoured 5 pieces of coffee cake and a pumpkin pie. Delicious! Coffee was good and canned soft drinks and bottled water is also available. Perfectly delightful. Thank you!

Awesome little mom and pop bakery. Me and my other half talked with the owners over coffee and pastry. Its cool to see seniors venturing into small business. Kudos to them both. We will return!

I specifically searched for this place on Unilocal because I don’t think it gets the attention that it deserves. Hazelnut House is located behind the Welches post office and next to the laundromat. You can’t see it from the road so I think it gets passed up because people don’t know that it’s there. This place is GREAT. I found it by accident when I first moved to the area. It’s family owned so you can see the same people each day and they’re all very friendly. They make all of their pastries in house and they’re ALL fantastic. Whenever my boyfriend or I go in there we walk out with a whole box full of pastries. They have cookies, cakes, pies, and so on. They also do customized orders. It is all wicked cheap, too. If you get the chance you should really stop in. You won’t be disappointed.

Best in the area. Don’t miss it! Homemade pastries baked and served right there in a mom-and-pop shop. My faves: cinnamon bun cake and any of their mini pies. Also serving delicious hazelnut flavored coffee.

This inconspicuous family-run bakery is on a side road just off Highway 26. Great place for a quick stop on way to Mt. Hood. A display case full of tasty treats, surprisingly good coffee(Rose City Roasters), reasonable prices and friendly proprietors(Martin & Norene). Wish I had one of their Berry Jammers to snack on right now.
