went there on labor day with my wife and son… nice family run place… got the Big Dog Hot Dog… surprisingly, i liked the fries on the dog, they added a nice salty element… jalapenos were good too… not sure what kind of meat was in the dog though… for me, an all beef dog would have made it even better… also had the Wicked Burger, which contains a beef patty and kielbasa, and a very spicey sauce, which i liked… For both of the sandwichs mentioned above, if the buns were toasted and if the cheese was melted, then that would have hit it out of the park for me and would have generated 5 stars…

This place used to be the home of Yanks Franks. I was a huge Yanks fan so I was reluctant to try Mama J’s. Went on Saturday afternoon in the summer and was welcomed as we entered. The place was empty. The order taking process went very slow and although they said they would make substitutions and everything the way we liked it when my sister ordered a hot dog with no meat they seemed a bit put out by it. I do have to say that the food was delicious and the Cowboy dog was the best. Chili was fantastic as well. They just need to work on the customer services. It could be the lack of customers that has them off their game but hopefully that will improve. I will be back cause the food is that good. Give them a try.

Great little lunch place! I went with my family this afternoon and it was delicious! Some of us got plain dogs, which they were very pleased with, my boyfriend ordered the cowboy dog(awesome!) and I had the kielbasa sandwich, also a great choose. The menu was perfect because they had lots of topping options and can easily make you whatever you want. They also had amazing homemade potato chips that we ended up fighting over! They were thick cut, large, perfectly crisp and very tasty. To top off the experience the service was friendly and very fast. If you’re looking for a great lunch go to Mamma J’s!

Great place. Quick, friendly service. Only a 4⁄5 because I’ve only been once. Recommend for a quick stop to check it out. :)

Mamma J’s has opened in the location of the old Yank’s Franks(which I miss very much) on Route 1 in Wells. We have visited once, and liked it quite a lot. We ordered two specialty hot dogs — the Red Alert(topped with jalapeños, homemade Italian relish — very, very nice — and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper), and a Bacon Cheddar Dog(pretty much self-descriptive). These are Kayem franks, and you have your choice of grilled or steamed. The dogs were served on a sub-type roll which was a bit of a surprise, but very tasty and fresh. We also ordered a side of cheese fries. Drinks in bottles and cans are very economically priced(though not a very big selection). They also offer burgers, and various sandwiches(including Crab Cake, Kielbasa, and a Fried Haddock sandwich). Next time I plan to try Poppy’s Hot Sausage(crumbled and topped with onions and peppers, mozzarella, and marinara). Starting with four stars for now, with the potential to move up to five after we visit again. A good lunch spot, good value, and the owners seem like nice people.
