Great service. Friendly, food was awesome, surf and turf. Done well. Quick to serve and clean.

My wife and I pulled off the road to google a restaurant. She looked up and saw a sign, «The Steakhouse» and saw a full parking lot. We looked at each other and said«why noy try it.» Everything exceeded expectations. Salad fresh. House potatoes were hot fresh and delicious. Steaks were perfectly grilled medium. Dessert, fresh strawberry shortcake was the best. Our server, Nichole, was sweet, knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. Place opens at 4:30; we are told that there is always a line at that time, so plan to be there for hourly turnover. We were there at 4:45 and seated at 5:30. Be there about 45 minutes before turnover time. People who were waiting created a very friendly, family type atmosphere. Just get a beverage and enjoy. Can’t wait to go back.

I found it odd that I had never heard of this place even though my coworker for the last 10+ years loves steaks, restaurants and lives in Wells. After eating here I now know why, I would not recommend this place to anyone. I have no idea where to start other than the food was so generic, but they want a premium price. First off I will say I went in with very low expectations based on others reviews here and elsewhere and The Steakhouse failed to meet them. Was definitely suspect when Longhorn Steakhouse had a higher rating on another review site. The only reason I was going was because it was a family event and I was not the decision maker. I ordered the scallops, I was not willing to risk a bad steak especially at a place that brags about«natural corn fed» beef. No one in my family of 4 of the larger group ate all of any item on their plate. But before the main dish let’s discuss appetizers and sides. A review from tasting wife’s and children’s plates. The chili tasted like watery canned chili, the baked beans tasted like canned beans drowning in sugar. The pasta side my youngest had tasted like ketchup with McDonald’s beef Patty ground up. The fries of my oldest were soaked with oil and so salty they were inedible. My wife got the beets in pineapple juice, you guessed it, it had that tin like taste straight from the can. Oh and the bread, straight from the shelf of the grocery store. Then we get to my salad. Let’s start with if you are trying to avoid simple carbs, this place is not for you, all the side dishes are either potato based, pasta based, or drowning in sugar(beans and beets). So I got the salad as a side and waitress seemed confused only selecting one side so she let me do a double salad. Boy was that a mistake, but it was the best part of the meal. The salad was just a bowl of iceberg lettuce, other veggies drowning in about ¾ cup of dressing and about a cup of croutons. Honestly it has been years since a salad was ordered by me and the dressing was not on the side. So I scraped the bulk of the dressing and stale croutons off to have lettuce that was not just pure dressing. Now the main dishes. Oldest had chicken tenders his favorite, he never passes them up, and he complained about the chicken being too tough and salty. Pretty much the same as his fries. My youngest had scallops, he loves seafood and complained that these«don’t taste good and dad’s are better.» ok just to be clear I am not a professional cook and maybe cook scallops once a year. I’ll get back to the scallops later as that’s what I got. My wife got the filet. Medium rare. First kudos for proper cooking. But that’s it. The filet was tough, honestly how is that possible. It tasted bad. Now back to my scallops totally agree with my youngest. They were was over cooked to dry hard pellets that were so salty they were gross. So in the end more than half of everyone’s meal was not eaten, we had it boxed up to be rude to our host as she was paying for everyone. When we got home all four boxes went to the garbage. Then there was dessert. We shared a sundae which amounted to a huge bowl of maybe hood but I suspect more generic, and gross chocolate syrup. And yet again less than half was eaten. My recommendation is if you want a steak dinner with the family you will get better quality at any chain joint and pay less. I am going to even complain about the water, can the glasses be ANY smaller for the water? My glass sat empty on the table for more time than it sat with water. I cannot understand why people would wait for this place ever. Just like the movies Jurassic World and Transformers 4, just because a lot of people go to place and it seems busy with long lines, does not make it good.

From visit in Fall of 2015: Have to say the steak is delicious. French Onion soup is a bit«chewy», mozzarella is a bit like bubble gum, but very tasty. Like the bread, always eat too much. Salad is OK. Great atmosphere. Open and a bit noisy. Always a 45+ minute wait.

If you are within 50 miles of this place set your gps and get here ASAP. Steaks that you have been craving in cuts of all sizes cooked exactly how you want. Sides are always perfectly executed and it is impossible to find anything you wont love. The staff will guide you through the cuts and sides if need be and they are always quick to refill your glass. Always busy, particularly early evenings but worth the wait. Just sit in the beer garden/patio outside or in the downstairs bar if its late season. This is the place for the authentic, red-blooded american, steak house expirence.

Consistently good every time I go. True, the wait can be really tough so go there if you’re not in a hurry. But as people in the restaurant business say, «the line is your sign». So there’s a reason it’s busy. I’ve only had steak there and never tried seafood. But when something is good you stick with it. The cheese fries have taken a couple years off my life, but worth it! Dessert, if you have room, is fantastic. I’m in awe at how the waitresses can move up and down those stairs with such ease while carrying a tray full of food!

Main entrance is downstairs, where there’s a waiting area with benches & a larger waiting room with tables & chairs. Was hit by aroma of urinal air fresheners upon walking through the main door. Sat at table in waiting area for 30 mins, breathing shallow as the fumes of aforementioned air freshener permeated entire downstairs waiting area & room. I stayed only out of politeness to our hosts. Happily, once we got upstairs & were seated, the smell of urinal cakes was no longer burning my nose & turning my stomach. We got warm rolls right away, which were nice & helped settle my now-queasy stomach. Folks at my table enjoyed their steaks. My chicken pot pie had a decent crust & chunks of white meat, but the filling was gummy & dry. Baked beans are stellar(they do have about as much ground meat as a chili, which is unusual but tasty). Service was fine. Décor is very 80’s. I was mesmerized by the fact that the brown & rust patterned carpet upstairs seemed to be in such good shape, given that it had to be around 30 yrs old. It was a little cringey watching the waitstaff go up & down the carpeted stairs with trays of food(ok, I’m projecting my own clutziness here), but of course they managed just fine. I won’t be returning. The port-a-potty smell downstairs was just too much gross.

Best local steakhouse period. I usually get the 12oz filet which is always cooked perfectly. There is a reason why people are willing to wait hours to eat here! If you love steak check it out!

Horrible, horrible management. They don’t care about anyone because they are busy. Their steaks are good and reasonable but the management is obnoxious and disgusting. Horrible people own and run this restaurant. The manager said she was watching us we waited for a table at least ½ hour longer than we were quoted. She said we we horrible people. What we did was let our server know that my steak was over 1⁄3 –½ fat, she told me they can’t control that because it comes from an animal. Have they ever heard of trimming a steak? The manager. needs an attitude adjustment. We complained about a abnormal amount of fat on a steak, over half the steak, but to them that was a normal steak. Well the manager needs to take customer service class, as she has none. What happened? We have been customers for 25 years and have always been treated respectfully and we felt like they appreciated our business’s. Not any more. In fairness the steaks are very good and the service is usually good too, but don’t complain or a wicked witch shows up to yell at you.

Phenomenal! After reading the reviews we skipped lunch and went for an early dinner when they opened at 4. We arrived at 4:08 and the line was well down the stairs and out the door and into the parking lot. We quickly got to the hostess. 2 parties ahead of us did not have all of their members so they would not seat them until they all arrived, and we later saw that they didn’t seat one of them until almost an hour later!!! Just something to keep in mind. Our party of 5 had a little bit of everything. My husband likes to think of himself as a cheese stick expert. They were quite good, and the marinara had a nice spice to it that I enjoyed. The shrimp cocktail was perfect and I lover that you paid for the number you wanted. Entrees I got the filet with a side of scallops. The filet was perfectly cooked and had lots of flavor. The herb butter was the perfect compliment to it. Choice of sides was harder. I did the house potato, and the barbeque baked beans. The vegetable of the day was a summer squash and zucchini that I had to try as well. The house potato was good, as were the veggies, but the beans… oh my gosh!!! They were the best baked beans I have ever had. The rice pilaf was another group favorite and my 2.5 year old son was partial to the homemade applesauce that tasted like pie filling, so good!!! We all had a hard time narrowing down our dessert choices. Everything was delicious and after a huge meal, so hard to finish. We decided to walk back to our cottage instead of taking the trolley, we all needed to burn the calories. So worth it though!

This place has a really cool concept. You can tell its run like a well oiled machine. My boyfriend and I were willing to wait the 45 min to get a table because we were starving upon arrival. It was worth the wait for the price you pay. We both got steaks. I got the filet he got the rib eye. Really great cooked to our liking. The bread was great kind of reminded me of a jumbo bread stick. The sides were okay nothing to write home about but worked well with the steak. Service was very quick once we did get seated and the ambiance was medium it’s not fancy but it’s not super casual either. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We left full and pleased !!

You know a place is going to be good when there’s a line out the door before the restaurant even opens. At The Steakhouse, this happens daily. During my explorations in Maine, I’m not gonna lie… I ate seafood all day, every day. I wasn’t exactly getting sick of it, but I needed some variety. My Aunt highly recommended this spot, so I knew it was going to be top notch. This spot was impressive! They’ve won awards for best steakhouse/surf & turf in the New England which is a pretty great achievement. I’d recommend getting their on the earlier side because there’s always a wait. The Steakhouse has your typical menu choices with an outside of the box flair and clear Main influences in pairings of flavors. To start, they give you the fluffiest/garlic-y breadsticks. Be careful cause you’ll want to eat them all. Their beer menu is great with local imports like Allagash White and Shipyard Export to your usual options like Blue Moon. As for the food, wow. I ended up ordering one of their Surf & Turf specials which included 7 oz. of filet mignon and a stuffed lobster tail.(with 2 sides — I chose the garden salad and their house potato) FOR $ 25PEOPLE. You heard right. And not only was it redic reasonable, but delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and the lobster tail was a perfect accompaniment. If you’re in the Ogunquit/Wells area in Maine, this is worth the visit. Trust me.

The ice tea was good & so was the sides. The steak was bland & it is something anyone can make at home. The restaurant is very busy because is the only steak house in the area. It is over priced as well.

Best steaks. Friendly staff. There is typically a wait but the bar/waiting area makes the time fly and the food is worth the wait every time.

The name is as generic as the food and the experience. First of all; be prepared for a sizable wait. I’ve been here several times and the shortest I’ve had to wait is 30 minutes. The longest: 95 minutes. On the bright side they have a bar you can grab drinks at while you wait. Once you sit down you have an impressive number of items to choose from on the menu. However the steak and seafood is mediocre. I’ve never been disappointed but never impressed either by the quality. Service is always pretty good though and the inside is kinda interesting. Careful in the parking lot though, we witnessed an accident. Go slow!

I’ve been coming to southern Maine to visit family ever since I can remember and I’ve visited The Steakhouse just about every time. It’s a true, authentic Maine experience and some of the best surf and turf out there! Truly an institution. The locals love it, and for good reason. If you’re not there for«first sitting», which I believe is at 4pm, don’t worry. The bar is available for patrons to get their booze on and there is a small downstairs seating area to wait and enjoy your beer/cocktails/wine. The hostesses are really friendly and are pretty accurate with their wait time estimations. I’ve never been one to complain about the wait though because I always have a good time. The food is just delicious. Steaks obviously are their specialty and my favorite cut is the filet mignon. SO juicy and tender. I like to pair it with apple sauce and baked potato… mm mm good. We usually start with the mussels and stuffed crabmeat mushrooms. Also delicious. If you’re in the Kennebunk/port/Wells area, you HAVE to stop by The Steakhouse or you’re missing out!

Terrible dinner today. Even worse than the steaks that arrived raw, after a 1 hr 40 min wait was the attitude of the manager. Who said that it was to be expected because we ordered appetizers. And their kitchen was slammed. She was rude and insulting because after what was now 2 hours we didn’t want to send it back to the«slammed» kitchen. So my advice is don’t bother with this place if it is a special occasion, or you want appetizers or you want your steak cooked the way you ordered it.
