Tacky! I LOVE Gaudy though this was too much, too little actually… Christmas lights«synchronized»(at times) to Music! Thanks to the Armed Forces and some other comments from a lit snowman… Young Kids enjoyed the very small Snow machine… Glad I experienced it though I do not need to again! I will go back to Wendell again and see what else is here! Except for driving around Neighborhoods I have never experienced anything on this scale and it was NOT very big… My main criticism is that it lacked the Charm I was hoping for OR it was NOT Gaudy Enough! I’d rather see an extreme! We came here for a Birthday Party on Friday the Thirteenth! Jason said he was going to dust off his mask and scare everyone! Wish he would have because it would have added to the Entertainment Value and I believe like in that old Christmas Song that mentions«Scary Ghost Stories» this is a GREAT time of year for Spooky Tales of Horror or Mystery! I had fun because of the people I was with!

This display used to be located on Lake Myra Rd, at two private homes. In 2012 the creators were given the opportunity to move the display onto a large lot in Wendell near the Park and Ride just outside of Downtown, and they’ve been there for the last two years. The 2012 display was cut short because of the late December wind storm, but they’ve brought it back for 2013. We saw the display at Lake Myra, but this is the first time we saw it in Wendell. Honestly, I have to say that I’m disappointed — not so much with the display, but with the limitations of the venue. When the display was on Lake Myra Road, the houses and the surrounding trees gave the owners the chance to provide some depth and framing to the display. The Wendell field is larger, and in part because of the size the display is more spread out, with no real focal point, The large tree of lights, rather than being in the center of the display, is off to one side, with a smaller arrangement on the opposite side. No matter where you stand it’s hard to take in the full impact — you’re only seeing a part of what’s there. This is by no means a negative review. The creators do have an impressive and well-coordinated array of lights and music and it’s truly a festival of Christmas(and free!). But ultimately it doesn’t work nearly as well here as it did on Lake Myra Rd. The creators really need to think about reframing the display(possibly by reducing the footprint, as strange as that may sound) so that there are both clear focal points and more visual impact.

What these folks do is truly wonderful– and I sincerely appreciate their efforts to share the Christmas spirit with everyone. We hadn’t been to visit in 2 years so we didn’t know what to expect. It had been wonderful at their house with the extravagant decorations and just the whole feel of Christmas And so much to see. It’s been moved because of size to Wendell and unfortunately has lost some of its glory. The field is too big for the amount of lights displayed. With no background it just feels like a lit up field. It’s worth seeing of course and the younger children are in awe. But otherwise the charm isn’t there. I know it will get better and each year I support their efforts and hard work.
