I’ve been here twice now, and have ran into family friends both times. It’s as authentic as it gets. Their portions are really good, especially when it comes to their caldos. Their salsas are perfect and actually spicy, like they’re meant to be. They have homemade corn tortillas. Their caldos have a ton of meat and veggies, and are very filling. Their other dishes are equally delicious. I plan to become a regular.

This USED to be the place to eat back before the current manager took over… now half the wait staff is lazy(the other half kept me from giving this place one star… the live entrainment butchers songs that you used to like before they sang them. The food is well worth the price, although it used to be better, but thanks to the wait staff, I would suggest order to go and pick it up from the window…

I was not impressed with the food here – I ordered fajitas. It was very average and uninspired. However, this place is an institution that has a loyal customer base. I recommend coming here for the atmosphere and not the food.

I am not a fan of Tex-Mex food. Let me just say that right now. I’ve been to this spot once before after an art show at the Weslaco Museum(which was awesome!). Last time I had tacos and I remember liking them but they were a bit greasy. Still delicious and low priced though which is always what we are looking for right?! This lovely day after Xmas I ordered a small shrimp cocktail. It was lovely and delicious but pretty spicy! It had a ton of little chopped up jalapeños which I ended up digging out. I got a whole basket of crackers which cracked me up :-) On a side note my friend ordered a Michelada and she totally hated it. It was watered down, tastes like tomato juice with beer and lots o water! No thickness no body no Bueno… But those shrimp tho…

This is now our go to place for Mexican food. If we ever eat out at a place we always ask ourselves if it’s any better than Sunrise. The answer still has been nope not really. First The service is always prompt and the good food always comes out very fast. The kitchen definitely seems to have their act in order. I’m a big fan of their enchiladas and chori queso. Do not miss their margarita drink special

Some of the best chilaquiles I’ve ever had. The flour tortillas were noticeably home made and delicious. The waiter was really good, my drink never went passed half-empty. Had a principio de menudo, the spices were perfect! Will definitely be making this my breakfast place in Weslaco.

Wanted breakfast away from the hotel’s idea if breakfast. Good authentic Mexican food with pancakes if you absolutely have to have them. Very personal and friendly with colorful décor. And a dedicated parking lot! Good food, good price, good people.

Ah sun rise, I think I’m addicted to their breakfast tacos, for what they cost and how much food they give you they’re at the top of my list for places to sober up, it helps that they’re open late on the weekends.

The breakfast plate wasn’t bad with one pro and con. It was very cheap but the potatoes that come with the plate are one of those frozen hashbrowns like Mcdonalds would give u. Not homemade which is a let down. Enchiladas are great and the lunch is really good. Some food is not a lot of portion but some do have a lot. Good prices overall.

Attentive & friendly staff. There are much better restaurants in Weslaco such as Casa De Mariscos. I was insulted upon walking out of the restaurant… this place tries to haul extra cash in with their concession stand of «designer» goods. When I asked this overdressed, unprofessional, and heavily makeup-ed older lady(owner or owners wife I’m assuming) how much the Coco Chanel Mademoiselle perfume cost she responded with an «este es muy caro!»(this one is very expensive!) in one of the most conceited uptight tones I’ve heard. I had no interest in purchasing the product, in fact it was my curiosity of the excessive price hike of the perfume that made me ask as if I was interested in it. I personally purchase Chanel products at my local Macy’s or at an actual Chanel boutique. Not even at a reputable designer shop have I been disrespected as a customer as I was at this average Mexican Restaurant/«designer boutique». Spend your money elsewhere, the food here isn’t anything special and these owners lack the customer service skills you can easily obtain elsewhere.

Feeling a little sick I always start craving some caldo to keep the germs away. However, when you’re at work in a city you don’t nagivate except for your office and back home it gets a little harder to find quality food. With sniffles and a headache I asked my boss where the best spot for caldo in Weslaco was and she, without hesitation, said Sun Rise Café; so I put an order in for a large caldo de res, and off the previous comments on Unilocal,an horchata. Considering it was a to-go order and caldo(as in already made, left stewing all day) the order was of course ready in no time and sitting and waiting for me as I walked in. The large is perfect for two servings(today’s lunch and tomorrow’s). When I picked up I asked for extra limes(becuase usually restuarants give you the key limes, tiny, no juice, and you need about 15 to get your caldo just right). Lo and behold when I opened the bag at the office the limes were HUGE and the original amount that they gave me was more than enough for my large caldo. something that has NEVER happened. so right off the bat I was impressed. The caldo was a perfect piping hot, not scalding, not luke warm… juuuuuust right. The tortillas and rice that came with it were delicious. Hearty, homemade corn tortillas and rice i started eating out of the foil bag instead of waiting to put it in my soup. The caldo itslef was perfectly steamed, although the veggies were a little big which at first glance worried me. Nothing was finely chopped but rather huge half potatoes and two to three inch thick carrots and zucchini. Usually this would be a problem since restuarants don’t slow cook things enough for this to be cooked all the way through but at Sun Rise everything in the caldo, veggies and meat included, were slow cooked to tender yummy-ness. The vegetables and meat came apart with my little plastic spoon with little to no effort. Most definitely lived up to the boss’ recommendation. The horchata was a little sweet at first, but not artificially but rather becuase there may have been a little too much condensed milk. It tasted exactly like the atole my grandma and mom make so that was a nice little food flashback for my tastebuds. All in all amazing food and drink I’ll definitely be trying other things on the menu soon.

I frequently travel the the valley on business. I’m always on the lookout for good local spots. I drove past this place a couple times and always saw cars there, which is usually a good sign… usually. Pros: Attentive staff, great salsa and near perfect limonada. Cons: I was sick for two days after eating here(and I NEVER get sick). Also, the beans were tasteless and processed cheese was used on the enchiladas. Completely unacceptable.

There are many Mexican restaurants in the valley, but Sunrise is one of the best. The wait staff are attentive and friendly. I always look forward to «tacos sunrise»

Mmmm I been coming here since my h.s. days, but this place has been opened for longer than that. I enjoy eating Enchiladas, the seafood plate, quasadillas(rice &beans) Anything you eat here is sure to be good. Just like any other mexican restaurant. Sometimes they have some guy playing the piano. i am not to familiar with names. I know i just like getting my Mexican food from here, when i get a craving. They also offer up Agua Frescas so dont miss out.
