I originally went here to get my split ends trimmed, then at the last minute decided to go ahead with a blow out. HUGE mistake. I have a family member with tight curly hair that recommended Nirfa, so I figured Nirfa would know how to do everything right. WRONG! Most hair dressers don’t know how to handle my type of hair texture(very kinky), so I took care of the hard part for her and even brought my own wide tooth combs that I use on my own hair since I know most stylists usually don’t have these types of combs on hand. I shampooed, conditioned, detangled, left the conditioner in, and rinsed it out once I arrived there. Actually Nirfa ended up rinsing it out. I wanted to do it myself to make sure it was done right: rinse while at the same time avoiding manipulating the hair too much, to keep the curl pattern and avoid getting it tangled again. I decided to go ahead and let Nirfa do it since I thought she knew how to properly handle kinky hair. Wish I hadn’t let her, because she did the exact opposite. Once I got to the chair I started to twist my hair in sections, to keep my hair stretched out and easier to work with, also because that’s the best way to trim kinky hair when it’s very long like mine. Once Nirfa saw me doing this she said«you told me you wanted a trim, not twists». I had to explain to her what I was doing. At that moment I started to have more doubts about this woman’s knowledge of how to properly handle kinky hair, but again I thought of my family member’s recommendation and figured maybe I was just being too skeptical, since it was my first time getting my hair done there. I’d stopped by a day before to check out the place and saw a couple of other women with my hair type getting blow outs and figured Nirfa had enough experience. Once she started the trim, she didn’t use either of the combs I’d brought to detangle. She had her own wide tooth comb but it wasn’t as wide-tooth like mine was. I don’t even remember her using that one; she was mostly using her skinny tooth comb. Instead of first attempting to remove any knots on my ends with my wide tooth comb(or hers) she just ripped through them with the skinny tooth comb. Once she was done, the cut looked even but instead of asking if I wanted to twist and clip it back the way it was when I first came in, she started fluffing it out so it looked like an afro. After that I immediately decided I was not going to let her trim my hair ever again, but decided to give her a chance to redeem herself and said I’d go ahead and let her do a blow out; once again because of my family member’s recommendation and because I’d seen her do it with other women’s hair of similar texture. Well, that was the nail that sealed the coffin. She didn’t apply any heat protectant before she started. The second she turned on the blow dryer I turned around, stopped her, and asked if she was going to apply any heat protectant? She said I wouldn’t need any since I’d already conditioned my hair, and because she doesn’t like to do it the way the«black salons» do, because it makes the hair too oily. It had been over a year since I’d even been to a «black salon» but I just kept that part to myself and decided she knew what she was doing. Wrong once again. She started to apply heat protectant… AFTER she started the blow out. I started to wonder why she’d told me she doesn’t use heat protectant when she actually does use it. Her blowout was probably the most painful blow dry experience I’d had in my entire life. She burned my scalp at least 3 times(I stopped counting after the third time) and I’m surprised I didn’t go home with any noticeable scalp burns. After a few minutes she stopped and opened both the front and back doors because the place had become so stuffy with the smell of my hair being burnt. I knew it had to be pretty bad, because the doors weren’t open when I’d stopped by the day before and saw two other women getting blowouts. 24 hours later and my hair still smells awful… even worse than the last blowout I had over a year ago. I tried brushing a bit of baking soda through it and it still smells awful. It’s so bad I’m embarrassed to get too close to anyone when I’m out in public. Overall, my hair *looks* nice, but it smells awful and I’m afraid of what it’s going to look like after I shampoo it again. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one was because I thought about coming back another day for the blowout since she’d had another client scheduled immediately after me. She said I’d have to end up paying more if I came back, since she normally doesn’t charge extra for a trim when doing a blow out; but a little later she offered not to charge me for the trim and let me come back another day for a blowout, and pay in full once I came back. If I’d known how terrible that blowout experience was going to be I would have just took her up on the offer and never came back!

What a horrible experience I had at this salon. I had no idea this salon catered to black women. The only picture I say online was through goggle and it was a white girl. I went to get a particle perm and a hair cut. She permed my entire hair, with the bottom two inches never getting permed. My beautiful hair was so dry, or fried that I have to start deep conditioning treatments. She would not cut my hair, maybe she didn’t know how to cut a white persons hair, just like she doesn’t know how to perm it. I had to go 3 days later to another salon to a real stylist who had to cut almost 2 inches off to try to match up what was curled. The entire time I was there she kept telling me story emphasizing Caucasian people she know. BTW we don’t like being called Caucasian where white.

She did a good job on my hair and I was a regular but I had to stop coming here. I don’t like overbooking or a hairdresser with that leaves me under the driver longer than necessary to run her errands. Her last flare up causes a domino effect which made me 3 hours late for a family function and I was done.

I believe it was Nirfa that did my hair I was a bit hesitant in the beginning but OMG she did an amazing job and not only was it perfect when I left but it has last a few days in the Florida weather. Being from Jersey it is a bit more than what I’m used to paying but still very reasonable and well worth it. Highly recommend!

This salon and the staff here was by far the best I have seen who can work with my hair. I have type 4a kinky coily hair. Once a year I would like it straighten for a length check and clipped. They did all the right things. They detangled my hair the correct way after washing. I had a deep conditioner and I was in and out of the chair in no time. Great prices. I would recommend this shop to all. I noticed such a mixture in hair types while I was getting my hair done. They take car of all.

I have had the hardest times finding new hair salons away from home. I have had the same hair lady since I was 2. It was my first time getting a Dominican blowout and I loved how it looked! She also did a perfect job trimming my ends, which I was nervous because of bad experiences elsewhere getting my hair cut. I would def recommend this shop. also a bonus that she’s open until 8 during the week. so it works with the work schedule! You’ll love this salon, I promise!

Love the location & the cleanliness of the place. When Nirfa gives customers her best you will see quality work. Patience is required. Their is up to a 45 – 1 hour time delay. I’m big on getting in and out. Four hours in a beauty salon!!! No thanks…

She is amazing with my hair! If you’re looking for a good dominican blowout or even a great deep conditoning treatment at a great price, this is it. I have been going to Nirfa for over a year a now, recommended by someone else and I have 2 of my co-workers going to her as well. She was previously working at another salon and recently opened her own place. She does have 3 other stylists in the salon as well who are bilingual and professional and the place itself is very simple. They are open from 10 – 8, Mon-Sat. I love coming here because it’s not a gossipy salon, they’re all so courteous and accomodating and very knowledgeable. They know what your hair needs and won’t do anything to it if they know it will be damaging. My hair doesn’t like to cooperate sometimes and she knows how to get it in superstar shape and so bouncy and soft!
