I was glad our original waitress was replaced by one who was friendly. The jerk chicken is very spicy and the salads are huge. Don’t order coffee if you want cream in it — none to be found! Our friend who was with us is hard of hearing and also doesn’t see well so the loudness and dim lights didn’t work well for her. Not sure why they say they are Irish as I didn’t see Irish food on the menu.

Limited menu of decent, average bar food items. Have been there three times, and had very friendly attentive service on two of those occasions. Third occasion was a bit of a disappointment with slow service(only one staffer trying to keep up with a rush). But acceptable food and still a friendly vibe. Fourth time, we were out walking our dog, and my husband went inside to ask if we could sit on the patio with our dog(while I waited on the sidewalk). He was very rudely told NO, the dog wouldn’t be allowed due to health regs(which isn’t true — WI law allows biz owners to determine if dogs can be present in patios). Anyway, it is NOT any big deal that the dog wasn’t allowed — I go lots of places without my dog. But the super snotty attitude about it, and the lie about the health reg, is a deal breaker for us. Too bad, as we wouldn’t mind hanging out at a neighborhood spot.

This was our first time. They have renamed it to Natty Oaks Pub & Grill. We ordered Friday Fish Fry. My husband got the clam chowder, which appeared to be homemade and he loved the taste — but it seemed a little salty. I had a bite and agreed… too salty. Good overall flavor despite that. My Beer-battered fish was outstanding. Hubby’s baked fish didn’t have much flavor. I really liked their tarter sauce as well! The fries were excellent, but heavy-handed on the salt shaker(and I love salt, but it was a lot). Next time, I’ll ask for no-salt and salt them myself at the table. I was surprised to have to ask for butter to go with our pieces of rye bread.. Wondered why it was’t served with the plate? The service was fairly good — but very rushed. Price was good and portion sizes were generous. I’m not a fan of pub-stool seating, but the chairs were actually kinda comfortable. The dining area was loud. There was nice outdoor seating — we may try that next time. Not much seating, so come early.

There was a time when this establishment(now known as Natty Oaks) was a truly enjoyable watering hole. With the advent of new ownership, the mood of the bar has, in my opinion, been abandoned and ruined. They changed the name, threw up a fresh coat of paint, and called it a reinvention. Bar tenders are reduced to wearing pandering T-shirts and the service has suffered tremendously. I’ve experienced the owner standing in as a «bartender», and was actually blown away by her lack of engagement and purposeless service. I formerly frequented this establishment, now I go out of my way to avoid it. Your glass will sit empty at Natty Oaks.

This is no longer callanan’s it is now Natty Oaks. The food was great but the service was poor. Our waitress was Amanda and she would skip our table. She came by to take our drink order then came back to get our food order and then at the very end to bring our checks. She never stopped to ask how our food tasted or if we needed anything else.

Great place for lunch. My wife and I go here when I work from home. We like the fries and chicken wings. We also like the southwestern egg rolls. We generally split the wings and a salad between us. The portions are large and the quality is excellent. It gets a little full on the weekends in the evenings. This is one of the better pubs in the area.

Nicole our server was bartender and wait staff. She is pleasant, personable and kind. We tried a great rail drink, well done, cold and fresh tap beer. Then the rest of the family came! Food was good. Fries are fresh and hot. homemade chips crispy and complementary to the rest of the food. I had, of course, the rueben. Generally not a big fan it is, after all, St. Pat’s weekend. The sandwich was delicious having plenty of meat. Mom’s blue cheese burger on a pretzel roll was… she said it was good. I don’t eat blue cheese! It was fun, lightly lit, lots of tv’s and the kids were welcome and well fed. No kids menu but with chicken strips and sandwiches it’s all good.

This place recently went under new management. It is undergoing changes for the better. The scotch I ordered was generous but a little pricey. I ordered the blackened chicken stuffed sub with sweet potato chips. The sub was very good with what seemed fresh ingredients. The chips would have been good with the chipotle ranch sauce but were fried in oil that wasn’t at high enough temperature making most of the chips soggy. The delicious sub was great but detracting from the sub was that it sat on a soggy pickle making a small portion of the sub soggy. The service was good and friendly and they are updating the place. I will return to see what has changed.

Updated review. Was looking forward to $ 5 wing night hanging out on the patio and having some drinks with a nice cigar. Then found out that they won’t allow dogs on the patio. Very disappointing and will have to downgrade my review. It’s a shame because its so close and would have been nice to make a weekly hangout. Guess some things are not meant to be.

We stopped here last Friday because we were looking for a new place to get a fish fry. This place seems like it is always busy on Fridays, so we gave it a try. The fish fry was average. I had the breaded perch and my wife had the beer-battered cod. The perch did not seem hand breaded, as all the pieces were same size and shape. The cod had a very thick batter on in, which made it pretty greasy. The sweet potato chips were good. The fries were very good. The coleslaw did not seem homemade and the tartar was average. We also ordered the Rueben Roll appetizers, and those were very good. We had 2 beers each, 2 fish frys, and an appetizer. Our bill came to $ 50, which I thought was a bit much for just the two of us. On a side note: It seems to be getting harder to find a cheap fish fry. The service was very nice and friendly. As far as the food goes, it was not that great. They did have bomber sandwiches which seemed like they would be worth a try. Also, based on the review, I want to try the wings. This is a nice looking bar, and there seemed to be a lot of locals. With that said, I would not rule it out for drinks.

Went to Callanan’s for their Friday Fish Fry. There were three of us in the group. I had the baked fish($ 10.95)which they both said was very good, but less fish than most places. I had the beer battered fish which was very greasy, but tasted ok. We had tried their fries, potato chips, and sweet potato chips. The chips lacked in flavor, but the fries were very good. The servers were friendly. The atmosphere was a typical busy pub… loud. We won’t be going back for the fish fry, but we we may go back to try their sandwiches.

They sure do know how to pour the drinks here… one after another… and I have no complaints about it. It’s like Cheers here — everyone knew each, introducing the new folks to regulars. The bartenders are outstanding and friendly. I love it. Oh — get the fries. I’m pretty sure they are double-fried, which makes them double great.

What a surprise find. Tucked away a few blocks from Highway 100, this in a spot we will be sure to frequent whenever in town. What other pubs/bars in Milwaukee use fresh ingredients throughout their menu, take pride in pointing out that there is no Ice Berg Lettuce in their salads and have one of the most unique and delicious«Hot Stuffed Subs» you’ll ever encounter — promise! The Gyro and Blackened Chicken are fab and the side of Kettle Chips and Sweet Potato Chips(is that a bit of sugar sprinkled on?) are super addictive. Friendliest bar tenders I’ve met(Tony has a generous pour) and the night we were there(Sat) they had a solo guitarist that played a mix of covers and Irish tunes — nice! I hear they do a Friday Fish Fry and other reviews rave about the Burger — I’ll certainly put those on the list for next time. Great place!

Milwaukee’s hamburger wars are competitive; everybody’s got their favorite and I’ve got mine, but I’m always game to try out a new one. Tonight we decided to try out a place we had never heard of: Callanan’s Parkway Pub in West Allis. I was impressed. The service was good, the TVs all turned to Saturday high-definition sports and the burgers delicious. I had the jalapeño burger. This hand-formed patty comes loaded! It was on a fresh toasted pretzel roll and covered in jalapeños, melted cheese, bacon, red onions, lettuce and avocado slices. When it got to the table, it was so stacked I wasn’t sure how I was going to eat it, but then I realized: I never should underestimate the size of my mouth. ;) I squished it all together and took a bite. It was pretty close to perfect. It’s Burger 101: if you use only good, fresh ingredients, you’ll have hard time screwing up. Callanan’s apparently aced the course. My wife had the bleu cheese burger. I never took a taste of hers, but she seemed to like it quite a bit too. Lastly, the fries were delicious and unique. They were well-seasoned and must’ve been cooked in super hot oil because they were light and crispy. Despite how good the burgers are, apparently we ordered the wrong thing. Callanan’s is known for their stuffed subs. Once they were described to me, I knew I’d be making a return visit soon — I’ve gotta try one of these! Callanan’s is good place when you’re in the mood for pub food and a cold beer(when AREN’T we in the mood?). They even have live music on Friday and Saturday evenings.
