From 1 – 10 I would give them and 8 food and service are good but place is to small. ;)

A Local Gem! My fiancée and I went to Classic American after seeing it on Kitchen Nightmares. It’s not too far from us and we like supporting lcoal restaurants. It was a great experience. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Honestly, the burgers were the best we have ever tasted! The sweet potato fries were excellent and our Oreo cookie shake was the perfect way to top off the meal, It’s a cozy place and we were a little suprised that the place wasn’t packed on a Saturday night. We will definitely be spreading the word so that Classic American is around for a long time. I hope the owners read this review.

When we first moved here(about 10 years ago) the restaurant was supposed to be a healthier alternative but the people were rude. We liked the idea of bison, ostrich, and turkey burgers but the people were just too much of a disgrace and we stopped ordering. Then we moved back to Manhattan for a good chunk of the week. One night we saw cameras and crew in front of CA and I told my husband that they’re either doing a cheesy(no pun intended) commercial or Kitchen Nightmares. Lo and behold it was KN. We moved back full-time to Long Island at the end of last year. The food from the KN menu was REALLY good! And when we would come out on the weekends, we would sometimes order from them. My husband says the people are always very nice. But here’s the thing, they’ve changed the menu a few times and only some of the original items remain and some of the newer items are either non-American or just so bizarre sounding based on their description that I wouldn’t dare touch it. It’s now much more of a burger and faux-Tex Mex restaurant. The meatloaf used to be INCREDIBLE but they no longer offer it. We ordered last night from the newest menu. I ordered a Swiss and mushroom burger that was supposed to be medium rare but was more like medium or medium-well. There was zero pink in the center. The cheese empanada was good but I’ve never seen an orange empanada. I’ve only seen yellow ones but who knows. The frickles used to be good but these seemed lifeless. The onion rings were mushy. The tomato soup which I used to crave is no longer a staple on the menu. I used to love dunking the grilled cheese in it. The Cubano is awesome. If they still have the chicken pesto sandwich, that too is pretty damn good! The cheese and heat burger is okay. I would prefer it if they didn’t coat and fry the jalapenos. The turkey burger is good. The Classic American burger is sloppy but good. I don’t like the fries at all. The sweet potato ones are much better. The French Onion soup is good. The Lil’ Smokies were good but have been off the menu for a while it seems. The last time I had the Classic American salad, it was to… die…for! I haven’t had it since the changes. A few months ago, there were a few times that my husband was told they were out of whatever it was we were trying to order. I REALLY hope they are not falling into old patterns. If you get a new menu there is a save 20% coupon if you go a few times. I checked their website yesterday and the menu on there does not match the paper menu.

There really is no need to do an in depth review for this place… They have good and bad days… luckily most of my visits were good… cheese and heat burger is a definite must try… I would have given this place 2 stars… but then again, I feel that their prices are reasonable for what they put out… so 3⁄5.

My friend and I decided to go here… yes, because of Ramsay. We’re New Yorkers, but we had no idea this restaurant existed. We were intrigued and excited. The restaurant was surprisingly empty for a late Sunday afternoon, just us and another table. Our service was fine. The woman who sat us was really nice and personable and pretty attentive. Unfortunately, the owner of the restaurant seemed to be having a bad day. She delivered our plates and grunted when I simply asked for a side of dipping sauce, which ended up being pucked onto our table. We got the French Onion Soup and Mac-n-Cheese Bites as appetizers, both which were great. No real complaints about them, exactly what’d you expect. However, our dinner was a different story. They had a deal where you got a burger and a shake for a discounted price. The shake was delicious, but the burger was a total mess. We both got different types of burgers, yet both of them made us feel nauseous with a few bites. Not a ‘I’m full’ type of nausea, but a ‘Something ain’t right’ type of nausea. Both were sloppy and, ugh, wet… like it was dunked in water before being served to us. No bueno. I would still recommend them to my friends, but I’d advise them to be a bit weary about the burgers. It’s great for a late lunch, if you’d like to treat yourself for the day. Just be careful when you ask for a side of dipping sauce!

I got take out and it was one of the worst burgers I’ve ever had in my life. Wings tasted like someone microwaved them. I really was rooting for this place, but I don’t think I’ll return. Maybe another visit from chef Ramsay is needed… until that happens I won’t return.

If you are a burger fan, this place does it right. They have a variety of flavors to fit any palate, and the sides are amazing. Fried pickles were great, the Onion rings were bermuda onion rings, and with a little salt were some of the best onion rings I’ve ever had. Even the kids meals were given careful consideration and prepared well, and were visually appealing. The burger itself was just perfect, they cooked it just as I asked, and the burger actually filled the bun so every bite was better than the next. Some places claim to have great burgers and«bun it up», which never is a good thing. We got the spicy one with Jalapeño’s(which aren’t that spicy so if your a spice nut like me, you will need some more kick but for the average Joe, its a little bit of a bite), and the classic American. I don’t know which one I liked better, as they were both delicious. I have a pet peeve with burgers and buns. I can’t stand it when a bun is so big it takes over, so let me put out a disclaimer that when the burger first came, i was disappointed to see this Kaiser roll… but when she put the burger in front of me and I saw the burger filled the entire bun and the toppings were bountiful, I threw out my first impression and dug in to burger heaven!!! I saw a few one star reviews here, ignore them. It might not be the best burger you’ve ever had, but its far above 95% of the places I’ve visited in my life and one of the best I’ve ever had and most likely the best on on the Island I’ve had. I don’t give out four stars lightly either. I also had the cuban and ruben I believe last week as leftover take-out that they brought home to me(which is how I found this place), and even those half eaten sandwiches popped in the toaster oven for a few minutes were excellent, so order freely and enjoy! Keep it up Classic American!!! I’ll be back!

Didn’t start out too well, with both my wife and I seeing tomato soup on the board as one of the soups of the day. Arriving at 630pm you wouldn’t think they would be out of it but they were. You would also think they would take it off the board but it was still up for our entire visit. We both had burgers and both of them were REALLY good! The tots were something I didn’t expect, 4 oversized tots with a ketchup dipping cup. Very tasty! Service was excellent, very attentive and friendly. Was a bit disappointed in the dessert. We split the cookie sandwich but the cookie was so hard and thick that it was a project to eat it. Had to resort to using a knife as I bent the spoon provided. Wouldn’t get that again. All in all a very good burger place. Will return!

Classic American is a fantastic local run restaurant. The staff is always friendly and attentive, the food comes out perfect to order. I probably eat out there once or twice a month since discovering them on , there Wednesday Burger and Shake night is always a pleaser.

Classic American you’ve earned my 4th star. The claim to have Long Islands Best Burger is a tall order. You delivered, thank you. This is my second trip to Classic America this week. Today’s mission was solely to sample the acclaimed burger, the Classic American. The Classic American burger was delicious. The meat was tender and juicy prepared medium rare as ordered. I loved the balsamic onions, shredded lettuce, and whatever that secret sauce was. Yum. The dining room was full for this visit, about 20 or so people. Service was fast and very attentive. There was a young man working the dining room on this visit as an informal maitre d checking on all the tables. I was very pleased with the service at Classic American. Bottom line, Classic American a well earned my 4th star. Two thumbs up from me for an awesome burger.

Been here once. Had the turkey burger with sweet potato fries. It was good. The staff seemed to have a bit of a ‘tude or I’d give another star. People want to feel welcomed, not that by going in you are interrupting the staff’s day… :(. But will try again in case the staff was just having an off day.

I saw this place on kitchen nightmares, and decided to check it out. Well, Gordon ramsey needs to return and follow up, I went inside and got seated, and I had to wait a long time for everything. To get a menu took time, to get ketchup took time, to get anything took time. I spent at least 1 hour there, and they were not busy at all. They only had two other tables to serve. If they were busy, I could understand. They were anything but busy. The food was okay. The buffalo chicken wings were weird though. They were like pushed off the bone. Why not just have regular wings? They did not ask if we liked the food, but they asked other tables. Hmm… I wonder why that was. The burger was okay, but they put this special sauce on it which doesn’t really make it any better. Regular ketchup is fine. My girlfriend got fish tacos. Nothing special. No variety of food ether. They have a very very small menu. Where is the rewards program they had when they did the show? I guess they did away with it. Also, they had some high tech computer program for ordering. Well, that must have broke. They used a regular paper form for ordering. I noticed one thing: the workers there talk a lot. Our waiter looked like one of the owners, why is she talking instead of following up with us? The kid that hosted us did not really do anything. And it took them a year to give us a check. We had to grab the kid who just hangs out there to get us our check. They also did not ask my girlfriend if she wanted another refill on her drink. They did not clean off our table. Slow service, mediocre and weird food, and anything but American. I would not recommend this place. They need to step up their game with service, and then maybe make the food normal.

I tried this place out a few months ago, I want to say it was April. After seeing it on Kitchen Nightmares, I was very curious. It was a Friday night and the place was empty. Not one person in the place. We should have ran away then but we didn’t! My boyfriend and I like to eat so we ordered some appetizers to start. Some of the appetizers we wanted to try they were out of. Everything tasted like it was frozen food from the supermarket. Mozzarella moons tasted like the TGI Friday’s frozen mozzarella sticks you can buy at the store. My boyfriend ordered a burger and I ordered the beer battered fish. We didn’t like any of the food. He barely touched his burger and my fish was too greasy and not good. The waitress was friendly and accommodating and did take some of the food off the bill which was greatly appreciated. I think Gordon Ramsay needs to go back here ASAP!

Just ate here half an hour ago. I liked it and approved it. Food was light years better then any diner on L. I so my advice would be if you want diner food just come here because the menu is very smiler and the prices are reasonable. Go and try it out. Good service prompt and ready. Our bus boy was very young and really happy to be working… his smile made me smile.

JUSTPERFECT!!! my wife and i along with our 4 month old daughter are quickly becoming regulars at classic american… weve managed to order the fried mac and cheese bites everytime we go which are the best weve ever had! Weve tried something new everytime we go, the cuban sanwich is moist and filling, the potroast is some of the best, burgers are phenominal, the pasta ala jay is rediculously good, home made oversized tater tots… this place is all home made comfort. The staff is top of the charts with personality, they remember us every time, our daughter steals the show… WE have officially decided to take on thier catering duties and are having our daughters baptizm reception there. Colleen is one of the nicest owners and a genuine person you could ever meet. knowing after 2 visits of my onion allergy lol We couldnt ask for a better resataraunt and so close to home warm, welcoming WELOVECLASSICAMERICAN

I enjoyed this place very much. The first time I went about 6 months ago I went with a friend who told me while we were sitting there that the place had been on a show called Kitchen Nightmares. I was a bit afraid of what I would get. But I have to say it was pretty good, I had the chicken sandwhich with sweet potato fries. I then went back and watched the episode of Kitchen Nightmares and became a big fan of the show and this place after I returned a 2nd time. The burger was delicious and well seasoned. The fries were good as well as the Fried Mac and Cheese. This place was well worth the money. I always like to support local businesses rather than the fast food chains. Fast food chains are all but guaranteed to survive where as the«little guy» struggles to compete. I say definitely try this place little hidden gem on 109. Good luck to the owners!

Cute little place. Apparently it was on Chef Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, but I wouldn’t know. The food here was quite good. I like that just about everything there is made fresh, including the tater-tots!(I mean really, where do you ever find home made tater-tots?!) Staff was friendly as well. I’ll probably be back :)

I am thankful I went with 3 other people because that meant we ordered lots of appetizers and i was able to sample bites of lots of dishes. Appetizers were my favorite part of the meal — macaroni and cheese bites were delicious, corn dogs were awesome and the sliders trio; pulled pork, cheeseburger and turkey burger were outrageous. I split the fish & chips and a pulled pork sandwich with my sister and they were both extremely tasty. I had a bite of the turkey burger & cheese burger and they were also awesome. I think the sweet potato fries and onion rings(both homemade) were the best I have EVER had. Dessert was insane — homemade s’mores and ice cream sandwiches(homemade cookies) were unbelievably good. I’m drooling just thinking about it. Friendly wait staff, very affordable and fresh tasty food. Check this place out. I can’t wait to go back for dinner again.

I love this restaurant. It’s cozy, enjoyable, and they serve GREAT food. I love the pretzels that they serve before your meal. I also love the buffalo burgers there. More people should be introduced to Buffalo as a meat. It tastes delicious and it’s a hundred times healthier than beef. For a fantastic introduction, I recommend Classic American. Eat the Ostrich too.

American favorites. This place was recommended to me by a friend. They bill themselves as «quality food — healthier choices» and for the most part they deliver. The menu has a lot of basics: salads, burgers, wraps plus appetizers and full blown entrees. The entrees have a lot of sea foods as well as chicken and veggie dishes. Overall the place is small and pretty basic in appearance. The wait staff was excellent — when I asked the guy to hold off for a few minutes on the next round of drinks he did so with a smile and returned right as I was feeling the need for a refill. The food is very good– as we were waiting for our meals we watched what was being delivered to the other diners and it was making me hungrier! The portions are good sized and the prices are a great value for the money. There is a tight parking lot on the side and some more on the street. Definitely going back.
