Thank goodness there are still stores such as Jo-Ann that carry fabrics, notions, etc.

Did these stores get a overhaul? I believe sometime between last year and this one these stores got an overhaul. In the least it *looks* infinitely better than it used to look. Also, often finding myself in the zone between Manhattan’s everything and everywhere else’s «not everything» — I take what I can get. I like this store better than the Joann’s in Westbury. People actually use the numbers at the cutting counter, everything is clearly labeled, there’s a decent selection of fabric. I’ll drive further to get to it when I need supplies on Long Island. Basic sewing notions, beads in great supply, interesting fabrics. What’s not to like?
I also just like that there feels like there’s more room in the store so when it’s crowded you can shop and visualize in peace instead of having to move out of the way of other people in the aisles.(I might possibly rank stores according to my ability to avoid contact with others while visualizing my latest projects. I’m a little crazy, okay?) I also like that there’s a decent selection of craft books towards the back of the store so when the inspiration runs out there’s room to find more.
On the whole I’ve been pretty happy with my shopping experiences here. Yesterday I got 4 yds of brocade at 5.99 a yard. That’s pretty choice people. Overly dramatic halloween costume here we come!
Oh…and for yonder city peeps in exile there’s a big ol suburban parking lot out front. This doesn’t seem like a niche feature but when you’re used to everything being crammed in tight spaces a maneuverable parking lot feels like novelty.

Recently went to my first Joann’s Fabrics in order to seek material for my Halloween costume. This store is like the fabric version of Michaels/AC Moore. They have quite a big selection on every material you could think of. I was determined to find reasonable pricing for tulle to make a skirt. They frequently have sales so check the website before going and lookout for coupons. If you have never done this before(like me) they sell it by the yard. If you go to the center of the store, there will be people that can measure out what you want and size it accordingly. The lady who helped me was a doll. I was like a lost puppy in this store and clearly did not come prepared. But she explained the whole process to me very patiently and thoroughly. However,(and this is not her fault at all) the tulle was a bit pricey even with the sale and it would have been just as much if I bought a costume in the store. In the end if I decide on making my costume, I’ll be sure to stop by here again.

Those other two reviewers must have been drinking… I’ve been shopping here for years. Yes, its not one of their«Super Stores» but it doesn’t claim to be. Selection is very nice. Staff is super nice! There is a staff member my 5 yo and I refer to as «Arts & Crafts Jen» and she is the BEST! Always helpful and funny! Once a month, they do free crafts, and we try to attend as often as we can with our schedule! «Arts & Crafts Jen», we’ll see you soon!

I kind of hate Joann’s and I kind of hate this location. The employees are miserable and unhelpful. The fabric and craft selection they offer is twee, waspcentric(is that even a word?) and uninspired. I go there because there is literally almost nothing else on Long Island and I’ve found myself in a pinch but I’d rather take my money and visit a fabric store in Chinatown or Little India.

Calling this store Joanne Fabric and Craft is a huge farce. I understand that«craft» is in the latter half of the title, and thus less important, but the amount of space devoted to it is just plain sad. If you’re looking for fabric, you’ll find a decent selection. There’s a good selection of patterns. If you’re looking for any craft/art supplies, you’re pretty out of luck because you have maybe three of four isles of it in the far back of the store. Further, nothing that they offer in reference to paint(oil, especially) is of any quality. Why do you guys have a huge(5+ aisle) selection of seasonal knick-knacks at the front of the store? If you’re in this area, you’re better off just about anywhere else if you need paint/canvas/anything remotely useful to a fine-artist. At least Michael’s has/had a decent selection of brushes and paints. Pretty good if you just need sewing stuff, though.
