Trifles – West Bloomfield

Loved the cakes decorated for the holidays, definitely a hit. We got the Strawberry torte and the Frangelico torte. Both were exceptional and beautiful.

Trifles made my wedding cake. Gwen was fantastic, as was her staff. Don’t be fooled by her middle of nowhere location and dark store. This bakery makes the BEST cakes in southeastern Michigan – the artistry, quality of ingredients, and top level of customer service have made this place the go-​to for all of our major events. I could not be happier with Trifles.
The tasting went great – we had used trifles for my brother’s wedding, so we knew it was top quality. I told her I knew what I wanted for one of our cake layers, but didn’t exactly know what I wanted for the grooms layer and he had only given me vague guidance. Gwen walked me through my options, and came up with a good custom choice – nutella mousse! My groom LOVED this option, and it was a huge hit at the wedding.
The day of, the cake looked AMAZING. Gwen perfectly fulfilled my desire for a bright, colorful but classy wedding cake. Her sugar flowers were so beautiful, brightly colored, and realistic looking. She also added a little songbird which I requested, and added perfect artistic touches throughout the sugar flower arrangement. This cake was exactly what I wanted, and then even more! When I saw it at my wedding my jaw dropped. It was GORGEOUS.
Not only was the cake beautiful– it tasted AMAZING. We did a 3 layer round cake, 1 layer which was raspberry and lemon curd, the other was the nutella mouse. Both had white cake, and whipped frosting. I tried both at the wedding and LOVED them. The cake was moist, the frosting was sweet and fluffy, and the fillings tasted great. Guests were asking for seconds, and I got comments all night on how great the cake was. I think I gave out Trifles’ name a few dozen times when people asked where it came from.
I am so happy I went with Trifles for my wedding, and I highly recommend them!

Trifles created my EXCELLENT wedding cake. It was hands down the best tasting professional cake that I have ever had. My family and guest are still talking about how beautiful it was and how great it taste. We could not have asked for more. Gwen is an extraordinary baker and artist. The cake she created for us looked better than the picture we provided.
To say that Gwen is good, seems like not enough. She has excellent skill, her cakes taste great, the price was affordable and she is a sweetheart that gives excellent customer service. Right in the neighborhood too.

Initial impression was not consistent with a 5 star. It’s this middle-​of-​nowhere place with strange décor, barely looks like a sweets shop. But that was misleading.
This is a cake shop that stands out above the rest because of how down to earth the staff is, how customer oriented they are (willing to deliver cakes just about anywhere, but practical about how important it is to eat a cake soon after making it), and how delicious the food is.
My fiancé and I have been to several cake shops for our wedding and have very particular goals. Their staff is completely dedicated toward getting it right. I guarantee I’ll be getting more cake there. Ask for a yellow cake, mixed berry filling, with pomegranate/​raspberry/​strawberry. Mmmmm!

We needed cupcakes for a multi-​person birthday party at work. She went above and beyond by making a single cupcake for a picky person at the office when she usually makes 3 – 4 of each kind. The cupcakes were DELICIOUS and everyone loved them. They were also so pretty that everyone said they looked like «works of art». We will definately get cupcakes and other things from Trifles again.

So Unilocal has been telling me many times now to come in here since it’s so close to my house. I finally did, and it might not be a good thing for a chocolate lover! Came back with truffles, cookies, chocolate covered pomegranates and more! Really cute little shop. Their pastries were primarily cupcakes and I’m not really a cupcake person but that had plenty of other goodies to choose from. Nice little place to grab gifts from also If you’re going over to someone’s house.

My cousin had her baby at the hospital. Even though I live in AZ, I wanted to surprise her with cupcakes because flowers are boring! I called about 30 different places and everyone’s answer was «No,» or «We only do a minimum order of 3 – 4 dozen for delivery,» or «Our delivery fee is $ 60,» or «We can’t take any orders until November.» What?! I decided to make one last attempt. I’m glad I did! The cupcakes were delivered the next day! My cousin LOVED her yummy cupcakes! She said they were beautifully decorated too! Thank you Gwen!

I needed to find a quality bakery for our sweet sixteen party. We wanted to customize a cupcake tower and certainly wasn’t going to trust the local grocery store to do so. I walked in to Trifles without an appointment and the owner, Gwen was so nice and met with me to discuss design ideas. She has a cozy corner tucked in the shop with a plethora of books and magazines with tons of ideas to chose from. Gwen also got out her Ipad full of cake and cupcake pics. She sent me home with a few cupcake samples to taste with the family. She fills the cupcakes with various buttercreams which is quite tasty and helps keep the cake moist. Our favorite combo was chocolate cake with peanut butter flavored buttercream, oh my! We went back a week later to finalize and mesh our ideas. Gwen proposed her design by sketching it onto paper and that was the beginning. We decided on a small cake in the shape of a cupcake on top of the cupcake tower. For a small fee, she will deliver the cake to your venue and set everything up. No biggie to me, I wasn’t about to take a chance and do it myself. Her fondant was tasty and so smooth. Gwen tastefully decorated the tower platform. She topped off everything with the prettiest crystal-​like sprinkles for a little extra bling without it being over the top. Gwen was telling me about a huge cake she was decorating for a wedding and I never felt less important. The prices are very reasonable and I love the personal touch!

It’s a cute place and the pastries, chocolates, special popcorn all are wonderful and delicious. But the truffles; which I believe the owner is known for are awesome!!! They are very friendly and very helpful. Will work with you. I would recommend them to anyone. Excellent :)

Trifles is a wonderful confectionery. When my husband and I were planning our June 2012 wedding we chose Trifles because the owner Gwen not only made fabulous tasting cakes, but she really took the time to listen to us. Gwen’s calm demeanor and willingness to do pretty much whatever we wanted made it an easy choice. We got tons of complements on our cake. We let another couple tour our venue the day of our wedding and even they were impressed with our wedding cake and wanted to know who made it.
Since our wedding, we’ve purchased a couple of birthday cakes along with some small treats and those were just as delicious! We will be customers for as long as we live in this area! I can’t wait to use Trifles again for baby showers, birthdays parties, and other future events.

We ordered a 3 dozen cupcake Groupon for Trifles to give it a try. Got two of the chocolate/​chocolate and one of the vanilla/​strawberry. Both cakes were moist, and the frostings both have good flavor. Nice fresh strawberry on top.
I also tried several of the other bakery items in the store — couldn’t resist! They have a lot of different flavors of cupcakes. We tried the key lime (excellent), Bumpy cake (more moist & better taste than that other cupcake chain’s), Oreo & red velvet. Also had a few of their danishes.
Service was very friendly, there is a nice seating area there & they have coffee & drinks available. Chocolates & some local ice cream as well, will have to try that once we get into spring!

I used a groupon for a dozen cupcakes. The customer service was great and the cupcakes were ready when I went to pick them up. Out of the sampler of cupcakes, everyone liked the caramel the best! I’d go back just for the caramel cupcakes, they reminded me of the old sanders caramel cakes that you can’t find anymore!
