Prices are higher than usual chinese food, but in west bloomfield I expect rent is sky high. I ordered the lettuce wraps. Lettuce was fresh the filling was good. Also had moo shu chicken. It wasnt the best, but good enough. Service was good no issues there.

We went their on Sunday 10÷25÷15. Food was just o.k. all sauces tasted the same. However I found the service staff was very rude to customers. Will not return to this restaurant again.

We have been going here for 30 plus years. After reading the reviews on Unilocal,I now understand why our food was so horrible the other night. You can definitely tell that there are new owners. While the new owners are much friendlier than the past owners, the food is completely sub-par. Horrible fried rice, Kung pao chicken with slimy chicken and no peanuts. Egg rolls were gross. Never going back. Too bad!

This is the first time I’ve eaten here since the new owners took over. My family and I found the food to be superb!

A neighborhood strip mall Chinese restaurant that is under new ownership. It flourished by serving mass quantities of old school Cantonese food to a crowd who likes familiar bland food. If you want Almond Boneless Chicken or Egg Foo Yung, this is your place. Plus you will get ice cream and have leftovers for lunch the next day. If, however, you want flavorful, healthy or interesting food, there are so many better choices within a few miles. The new owners added Thai food to the menu. .. my chicken kra tiem was a disaster.

I don’t really know why this place has such a high rating. I ordered lunch for pick up, I got the almond chicken combo or the #1 as the lady on the phone clarified, as well as egg drop soup. When I got home I definitely did not get what I ordered, instead I had a few pieces of fried chicken with what I imagine was sweet and sour soup. The egg roll tasted incredibly fishy for some reason(way gross), I had a small chicken bone in my fried rice, which tasted what ever even with soy sauce. The egg drop soup was, no joke, neon orange. I’m not overly picky about Chinese food, and I can understand getting an order wrong from time to time. But there was absolutely no redeeming thing in my order. Total waste of money and time. The employees were very nice though. So I guess there’s that.

We’ve been going to golden Phoenix for over 20 years now. The new ownership seems to be doing an awesome job. The interior is extremely outdated but the food and service more than makes up for it. Best silver needle noodles I’ve ever had, love the shrimp eggrolls and dinner rolls to name just a few of my favorites. Fun knick knacks and fountain at the front for the kids! Not badly priced!!!

I have only been here once so far. The people were very friendly and I used a coupon so I felt like I was getting a good deal. The food was pretty good but I plan to return and give them another try.

Good Chinese food. Not original owners but they are using original recipes for the dishes I like: Almond Chicken, Egg Foo Young, Pepper Steak all old school good. I don’t like the general’s sauce too thick and too-sweet, prefer Szechuan Empire @ 14mi & Haggerty. Don’t like the sesame chicken, has the same heavy, sweet sauce Won ton soup is the best anywhere. Barbeque pork is yummy. Fried rice is also good. Service is great.

Tried to get takeout on Christmas. Knew it would be busy and was willing to wait. Order 3 entrees, told it would take 1 ½ hours. A bit long, but OK. Showed up when they said it would be ready and found people who had been waiting for nearly 2 hours. Should have left then, but cashier said they were catching up, my order wouldn’t be long. After being told 5 more minutes/“you’re next” i left after an hour, 2 ½ hours after ordering, without food. I get that they were slammed but people dining in were being served in 20 minutes. Bad management and dishonesty means they have forever lost a customer. Heard rumors they are under new ownership, doesn’t appear to be going well.

Took motherinlaw for her birthday lunch. She enjoyed the restaurant before the new owners took over. I have been vegetarian for 30 years and have had traditional meat dishes substituted with tofu. I ordered general tso combo and asked for veg. soup, spring roll, and veg. fried rice. This request for vegetarians is not unusual… The waitress said ok about the tofu instead of chicken, and pushed for me to get white rice instead of the veg fried rice which she said would charge me $ 2.00 more .I decided on the white rice and was able to get a veg spring roll instead of meat. The egg drop soup was salty. but edible. When she served my meal, the plate had unusually large blocks of tofu with a sauce over it that looked like soy sauce. General tso chicken is served with a lighter brown to orange color sauce and with broccoli. I asked the waitress wheres the broccoli? She replied you dont get broccoli when you order lunch… only at dinner! I was so taken aback with that response! I said you mean you alter the dish at lunch time only? She left and I reluctantly took a bite. The only way to describe the taste would be compared to a spoiled soy sauce. I put my plate aside and when the waitress returned she asked me whats wrong? I said I didnt care for it, and she went into her rant you dont get broccoli at lunch time and look at the dinner price… I said lunch portions are smaller, and I never have been to any Chinese restaurant where they take out an ingredient and put it back in for dinner time because it cost more. She continued tp talk in her language to the manager who said the same thing and I as a customer should know this! Furthermore the waitress came back and told me she did me a favor for my veg.options., and she was charging me for the soup but not for the dish. I can only imagine for meat eaters the quality of chicken or beef they serve. Heres the line that really got me… she said you only get 5 pieces of broccoli at dinner time! So i said you cant put in half that amount for lunch time? Beware of this place… if broccoli is a premium commodity, what is the quality of the meats they give you at lunch time or dinner time? Cant post without giving 1 star… wouldnt give any!

Under new ownership. Food is not same quality. I have tried gai kow and cashew chicken with the new ownership. Gai kow seemed to be prepared with a lot of salt used for flavor, And the cashew chicken which was ordered medium spicy was very bland. The eggrolls are different as well, can’t say exactly what is different besides the flavor. Something is very noticeably missing from the egg roll. What used to be superb is now very generic. The only positive thing to say about the new ownership is the very unfriendly woman who was there for many years is not! i’m very disappointed that my favorite Chinese restaurant is no longer my favorite. And I have been a customer as long as they have been at Maple and Orchard Lake Road. Back when they were at telegraph and maple-and that’s a very long time ago!

My first sign should have been when I first walked in and a woman was flipping out on the staff. I still got seated since I had been coming here for seven years. This has been my favorite Chinese restaurant at the $ 10-$ 15 price point. After being seated it took about 10 minutes for someone to notice. I didn’t get offered a drink, just asked if I was ready. I ordered my usual and tried ordering a beer. This is when I found out the restaurant was under new ownership since the liquor license had not transferred yet. When the food came out it went further downhill. The soup was ok. The egg roll had an odd taste I could not quite put my finger on. The fried rice was burnt. The chicken subgum chop suey was reminiscent of the time I had attempted the dish from scratch myself.(That didn’t go well either). To cap off the evening I opened my fortune cookie only to find I had no fortune. I have to find a new Chinese food place now.

They are under new ownership. The food is not the same. The soups improved, egg rolls are edible but are mall Chinese quality they came out burnt and greasy, cashew chicken was so bland no spice at all we ordered it medium, chicken chop suey was mostly celery. Staff is much nicer than before however service is slower.

I just stopped into the Golden Phoenix for a quick lunch break. I usually got the Mongolian beef combo at most Chinese places I go to so I decided to give it a try here. Bad idea, it was nothing like Mongolian beef is supposed to be at all. I’m not just comparing it to one or two other Chinese restaurants; I have tried many different places in my lifetime ordering the same thing and for the most part it’s made the same way. This stuff tasted like something you would feed a dog and it was mushy and soft. Reminded me of roast from a crock pot. The egg roll was good, but the fried rice was the worst I have had in a while. It was very salty and tasteless. Needless to say, if this dish was prepared anything like the rest, don’t go here. Not worth it. Go to Shangri La next door instead, they have the best Chinese/Cantonese/Mandarin food in Michigan.

Only ordered the egg rolls carryout just as a tester. Superb. Fresh and unique shrimp cabbage and unique crispy wrap. I will be back for these alone. Ive tried many egg rolls and these are top notch. These use more cabbagelike inside than bean sprout inside. Plum dipping sauce more pineapplie than orange taste. Tasty. Has a dash of hot mustard in it. Chungs has the best egg rolls but these are damn good. Forgot to snap pic. Maybe next time. Havent tried other food yet.

I have gone here since I was 4 years old along with everyone in my family and we have yet to have a problem with this place. The owner is really nice once you get to know them and the food is great when really it’s something popular like almond boneless chicken or Mongolian beef or the general sous chicken and the egg rolls and the wonton soup are very good but be careful they do put shrimp in there egg rolls. We have also ordered from this place on Christmas and yes it is chaos but they get it done.
