I am a big fan of their combination bento box. It’s a great lunch but you need to order ahead and around 11:30am. I call ahead and they are constantly behind their estimated t8me by about 5 – 10 minutes, so take that into account.

They used to carry my beloved Japanese sour gummies called shegkix. I hope and pray one day they return. This is in the same plaza and Kitchen Hazo. I highly recommend a quick stop at this market. Frozen food, noodles, sauces, snacks, aloe drinks, and one of the best selection hands down on Japanese candy. Prices are great too! Smells nice too especially compared to other markets.

Short review here since it’s been a while since we were there for the first time. We were browsing through the plaza and dropped in. We were more interested in the ready to go counter at the time, not wanting to wait and also not planning grabbing a whole meal. Mix of Korean and Japanese offerings — we got a few things and the checkout clerk noted that the chap chae was free since it wasn’t as fresh(yesterday’s?) I thought it was a nice gesture given that reheated, we might not have been able to tell the difference. We’re here visiting family so it isn’t often that the occasion calls for a stop at Kappa. But if others are looking for an Asian convenience, take-out, carry-out market, Kappa is here without heading to further corners of Oakland county.

* the place is named KAPPAORIENTALMARKET *(no idea about Cappa) I had stopped by Domino’s to get some pizza for my wife and she asked if I had ever been to the Kappa place. I said I hadn’t and I was intrigued so after placing our order for pizza, I stopped into Kappa Oriental Market. It is definitely a hole in the wall, but they had good smells in there, mostly from the sushi counter they have on the back wall. They primarily sell Korean & Japanese convenience foodstuff. Almost everything was unrecognizable but I did find lots of interesting nick naks and other asian kitsch. I was excited to find jars of kimchi and various dry noodle packages. I have not had good korean noodles in ages. When I went to the back I look over their sushi counter and they sell a variety of Japanese sushi & carryout food items as well as some Korean items and also fresh veges a person can buy by the pound. It reminded me almost of an Asian equivalent to a Delicatessen. I ordered 2 avocado rolls and the Katsudon(deep fried pork cutlet), there was an older lady back there cooking and chopping stuff and she looked at me peculiar I can only assume because perhaps not many non-Asians come there. I paid the cost at the front counter — my dried korean noodle packages, a jar of kimchi, and the avocado rolls, and katsudon. The bill was not horrendous by any means but I did spend a bit more than I would normally spend. However its not everywhere I can find stuff like this that I know of. The vege rolls run about $ 3 per roll, they also sell Nigiri for avg of $ 2 — $ 3 each piece, and they also sell other common Sushi rolls for $ 4 — $ 8 a roll. The rest of the menu are essentially Bento boxes of various things… the Katsudon I ordered came with rice, the fried pork cutlet, some sort of egg mix with I think it was eggs not sure. there was some sort of pickled veges and some sort of mini salad — all this in a styrofoam container for $ 7.50. I was very happy to have found this place and plan on venturing back. The reason for the 3 stars… the food was nothing special. It did fill a craving I had — with the Avocado rolls being the best of the bunch.
