Negative stars!!! The fish is greasy and it had a hair. It’s so gross gave it a second chance after getting sick the first time. Never again.

Regretting coming here. I think I’d rather go back to the dmv. It’s miserable in here and the food is horrid. I don’t get the reviews that say it’s so great. The hamburger in gravy was bland. The gravy was just thick slop with no flavor. No cocktail sauce for the shrimp. I feel sick after eating whatever I was able to eat. The shrimp was too over cooked to eat.

Wow… I seriously don’t get it. Other reviews are pretty positive. I ordered the Shrimp and Fish… which had fries as a side. I passed on the fries and got the rice and beans… which I assume is what I got… under a LAKE of gravy. The only way to differ the fish from shrimp was by the tail. I couldn’t taste any of the meat thru what others refer to as crispy batter. It was an inch thick… and pretty oily. The service was friendly, but honestly, I’d rather have a nasty server and decent food. Nah… I can’t do this one again. I can feel my blood thicken even as I write this…

Don’t know what the big deal is about this restaurant but I ordered some shrimp and AM coming with beans and rice something I completely didn’t expect it gross me out and I did not eat my plate I just ended up throwing it away. I personally don’t like this place after that experience so I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone unless you like greasy food go ahead and eat there get yourself sick but you won’t see me eating there ever again at that johnny shrimp boat or any other.

Wow this place is sooooooo good! My in laws have been telling me about this place for years but I finally gave it a shot today and I’m so glad I did :). I had the fried fish and fried shrimp with rice and gravy and rice and chili. Since it was my first time, David (he is seriously so sweet) made me a sort of sampler combo so I could try a little bit of everything. The batter on the fish and shrimp was so crunchy crispy on the outside and fluffy inside and it was so fresh. And best yet, what a great value. Prices are awesome. My combo was $ 7 including a soda and tax and my tummy was very happy :). The food here is stick-​to-​your-​ribs comfort food so don’t come expecting otherwise. Enjoy!

Sooooooo yummyyyy!!! I was visiting from Oregon and wanted some good food that was close to home cooking! The battered shrimp was like no other I’ve tried! And amazing chili fries!!! Thank you guys! Definitely coming back!

My boyfriend and I had lunch at this local eatery quite recently. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. We ordered fish tacos and the 2 shrimp, 2 fish combo. Everything is made to order and so the food was fresh and piping hot. The portions are nice and it was a little bit greasy but it was sure was tasty.

I’ve always driven past this place but had never tried it until today. I’m really glad I tried it because the food is delicious:) also, the customer service is great. A young guy helped us out and he was so helpful. I told him it was my first time there and he made suggestions and really took his time to help me decide what to get. I love when you get great food and awesome customer service and this place definitely has both!

I have been coming to Johnny’s shrimp boat ever since I was a young boy and I never get tired of it. It just brings back a lot of good memories. Of course the one I used to go to was the one in downtown LA so I was obviously excited when I learned about this one in West Covina.
I have never been a person to try something different here because I always get the breaded shrimp with gravy. I can’t brag enough about this dish and I can only get this dish in LA. So if you ever come upon Johnny’s shrimp boat just stick to the classic gravy over shrimp plate. You won’t be disappointed.

I absolutely LOVE this place!
Its cheaper, fills you up, great service, and its DELICIOUS! I’ve tried everything on the menu. I would have to say that their shrimp taco and fish taco are my favorite. Oh wait, i love their pork chops too!

Been coming here for awhile and it’s always great food!!!
I’ve never tried anything else besides the shrimp rice and beans but it’s so good not to have it lol.
Customer service is always good to. I mostly see some younger asian guy that works here and he’s a cool guy and always with his homie which happens to be some black guy who is also cool. Whether it matters or not they vape to lol!
But all and all great place, great food, great customer service!

I can easily put away a dozen shrimp on a visit to Johnny’s. The shrimp are tasty morsels that have been plucked from the sea, battered and deep fried for your enjoyment (although I must admit they have gotten smaller over the years). For some strange reason, I love my shrimp with ketchup from here.
Although my love of seafood knows no bounds, I always save room for some «rice, fry, gravy». It’s exactly what it sounds like: Rice and French fries, covered in delicious gravy.
They’ve got burgers and stuff if your children aren’t into shrimp. When I’ve taken my little cousins here, there has never been complaints about the food, so I guess it tastes OK.

If I would’ve eaten here 20 years ago, I’m sure I’d be happy that it was still around, serving the exact same food to a new generation. Besides some of the Unilocal reviews, there’s something about the flavors and atmosphere of Johnny’s Shrimp Boat that tell me nothing’s changed during its long existence.
The food was decent and it’d be perfect for an after-​hours grub-​down after being out all night. Since it’s not open that late, it’ll do for a cheap and filling meal during the day, served quickly and efficiently. I liked the combo of chili and rice as a side dish: not exactly what you’d expect with a few deep fried shrimp and fish, which were both fine, but nothing worth raving about. This is greasy spoon heaven; a throwback to a time when calories, fat content, and health benefits didn’t matter, and when meals were made better by a large Orange Bang.
