I use to go there once a month or more! It’s closed because the new owners are putting their own sushi bar in. Sad it’s gone!

Closed! Marukai doesn’t renew their leasing contract because they’re going to make food court and change the whole layout inside the supermarket.

I go here about once a month. The quality of food is good, but a bit pricey for take out sushi. I ordered the 3 item combo(w/o drink) and a tempura udon. The bill came out to $ 17+. Overall it’s OK, but nothing to write home about.

Fast and quite tasty for over the counter Japanese food. Right now they have the salmon lover’s trio for the month of August for $ 6.95. It consisted of 4 salmon avocado cut rolls, 4 salmon nigiri and a salmon handroll. The handroll was mostly rice, but still satisfying. They had plenty of business for a Thursday before 4:00.

Love this place The service is pretty good and the food is great for the price. My bf and I go here and spend $ 18 for a wide variety and we be big eaters! Always full when I leave and it doesn’t make me feel bad about eating so much haha.

The kids love this place and they never have set foot physically in this little«snack shop» right off the side of Marukai. When I go shopping I always get them sushi for a snack when they come home from school, actually the eldest child prefers the little cucumber rolls and chicken teri of the kids plate, just the perfect proportion of a snack. The youngest loves raw sushi, so that’s a big snack for her. The fish is so so, but not awful quality, and it hits the spot for a quick snack when you get home from school. Convienence gets 5 stars, and the servers are fantastic and have been there steadily for a few years now.

I tried the 3 items lunch combo for $ 7.99, which was running on special. The three items were teriyaki chicken, karaga/fried chicken and california rolls. The food was good enough for what I’m paying for. The portions were big enough and prepared well. The front girl who took the order was friendly… yeah with a smile.

They just started to offer a Tonkotsu Chasiu Ramen on the menu for $ 7.95 so naturally I’m curious about it. If you remember that you’re at a Sushi Boy, then you’ll remember to give the ramen about as much consideration as their udon, or their miso soup, and really only meant to add breadth to their menu offerings… The broth is opaque but not thick or creamy. It has a milky appearance to it and is salty sweet, and slightly savory. The chewy noodles are about the same color as the broth and could very well be instant but not as wavy. There is no egg, just some diced green onion, some green wakame seaweed, and some imitation crab. I would have preferred toasty nori over the wakame. The chasiu was nice though, thin and fatty savory; the six slices was generous for an otherwise small portion size. No additions and no substitutions… It’s what I would call a «bastard» ramen, not very authentic and will never replace the tonkotsu chasiu ramen at your standalone ramen joint. I would give the ramen 2.5 or 3 stars but I don’t hold that against their overall rating because it’s not what I come to Sushi Boy for. That said now that I’ve tried it I probably wouldn’t order it again in lieu of their other offerings…

I think the Uni scarred me for life here. Most disgusting Uni I have ever tasted, but that’s my fault for expecting so much out of a fast food sushi spot. Ingredients/fish doesn’t seem absolutely fresh, I wouldn’t eat here anymore after that Uni incident. I give it 2 stars because the price is cheap for the type of food and the workers are friendly. Stay away from the raw stuff.

This place isn’t too shabby. Sushi boy is located inside the Marukai Market, I had trouble finding it the first time but once you are in the market, it’s easy to spot. Its has a small section with tables for people that wish to sit there and enjoy there food. I always get it to go. The main reason we order from here is because the quality of the sushi is decent and the prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. They also happen to have deals every month which I would suggest checking out before placing your order. The cashiers have always been patient, helpful and always ensure that everything is packaged well, you have enough soy sauce and wasabi for your meal to go. They’ve been nice enough to even double bag my miso soups so in case there is an accident it doesn’t spill in my car(I have never had that problem with their food). They are also pretty fast in prepping your order. Sushi boy in my opinion is one of the best fast food sushi places around. I would recommend: +Takumi– spicy tuna hand roll, California rolls, salmon, ebi/shrimp, tekkamaki, and kappa maki(a little over $ 7) +Salmon lovers– That is my favorite! It consist of a total of 13 pieces. It has some salmon rolls with avocado(that has never been brown) and a few pieces salmon over rice. +Spicy tuna rolls– not too bad, it’s spicy enough but not over whelming +Salmon party tray– the husband and I like to share this plate when we are really hungry. It’s made up of 28 pieces(a mixture of pieces of salmon over rice and salmon avocado rolls. This will def feed two hungry people and its all for less than $ 30. For all you non fishy eaters, they also have chicken teriyaki and beef. I’ve had that in my bento boxes as well as their tempura which has never been too oily. I do wish its a bit crispier though. I also noticed that they have some bowls and udon available. I’ve yet to try any of them. I must say though that the spicy tuna bowl has always been a bit tempting and hopefully I’ll try soon. **the fish and avocado in the food I’ve had has always been fresh and not fishy tasting** –They accept credit cards for payment–

I’m giving the place a 3.5−4 stars in its level, which is a fast food level. As others said, don’t come here looking for high-end sushi like in a sushi restaurant. Other than that, the place is pretty good. I got the Kyoto combo and the tempura spicy tuna roll. They didn’t have the ikura and the eel when I got the Kyoto combo so I replaced it with tuna and salmon. Nonetheless, it was good and happy about it. It tasted a bit sweet. I’m guessing it was the rice that was sweet. But the fish were fresh. As for the tempura spicy tuna roll, it was ok. The tuna inside was cooked through which was a downer, but it was still ok. However, I would rather order something else next time. As for the price, I got them both for $ 22.24 which was a pretty good price. I think the Kyoto combo is about $ 15 w/tax. I definitely will come back here if I’m in a mood for cheap, not high-end sushi. I just won’t order the tempura spicy tuna roll again. UPDATE: I recently went back before I post this review since I wrote it from my phone, and haven’t officially post it through my computer. I got the three items combo, and it was so-so. The teriyaki chicken just ruin the combo for me. The texture of the chicken was of something that has been frozen and then reheat. The texture was no longer of a supple chicken, but meaty mush chicken meat. It was a big portion with a low price since it is the special for last June. But I was disappointed. The rest of the combo is okay, but the texture and taste of the chicken just ruin the whole experience of the combo.

The staff is very friendly and courteous so I feel bad giving them 2 stars. But the sushi is just not fresh. The last time I came, it actually felt slimy a bit. It’s not bad food, it’s actually priced really cheap. But I guess you get what you pay for. On a side note, the miso soup tasted good.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for the longest time. This place is located inside the West Covina Marukai Market. Small little restaurant with about 10 tables for their customers to dine in & eat. As I sat down at an empty table, the table was dirty as if someone had just ate and nobody had bothered to wipe the table down. Okay, maybe they will come around and wipe it down before my food is ready. Never happened. So I used the napkin and did it myself. You would think that with a small dining area with a handful of tables and seats, one of the employees would wipe and clean the tables off after each customer finish eating? Common sense right? So I ordered the Osaka Special and the salmon & avocado roll. The Osaka special comes with miso soup. The rice was a little bit harder than your usual sushi. You know I’ve had better sushi before but for the price, it’s not bad for a fast food joint. The total came out to be just under $ 15 dollars. Will I ever come back? Sure why not? Maybe try something else on the menu next time.

This is a small sushi restaurant located in the inside of Marukai market not much to this place over all its ok, it serves its purpose. They have a variety if sushi selections, the sushi is fresh, & the employees are very nice they greet you when you walk in & greet you when you walk out. This place is OKDONTEXPECT too much, its more of a quick sushi fix in and out. Some of the sushi just tastes a bit flavorless & a bit dry, sone if the sushi rolls seem very tiny but its doable. I’ll keep coming back here to satisfy my QUICK sushi fix

Conveniently located inside the Marukai market, Sushi Boy offers a wide variety of sushi meals. Being a fast food joint, it actually offers much more variety and fresher options than the chain fast food joints like San-Sai. They offer a Salmon lover meal which will fill you up! However, the only reason why I did not offer them 5 stars is because when I compare it to Bento-ya in Arcadia, it’s not as tasty.

This Sushi Boy is located in the Marukai Market. It is small and basically for take out. The workers are friendly and the service is fast. The Sushi is always fresh. My favorites are The Crunch Tempura Roll, Tempura California Roll, Chicken Teriyaki Roll, and California Roll.

I come here often for good and quick sushi rolls! I can’t say that their rolls are necessarily that cheap considering an order was $ 6.50 before tax. But the food comes out quick and quality is good. I always get the Sweet and Hot Roll: shrimp cucumber and avocado seaweed rice roll with sweet and spicy sauce drizzled on top. Yum! Their tofu nuggets are really good too but I’ve recently discovered that they use the same tofu nuggets sold at trader joes. That’s kind of no fun. Also the udon broth at sushi boy is really good. Always piping hot and full of flavor! Not just plain salty and soy sauce tasting like many other udon places.

Meat! Sushi! Begetables! i can’t believe i waited for over half an hour for sushi from sushiboy, but this is where i found myself. u know those days ur running errands and u let hours go by before you get a chance to eat, so you can do the groceries last. Marukai was our last stop and we were starving and settled on sushi which was inside marukai. this place was the busiest sushi boy ever! the line never died down! my mom and i shared a sushi plate and a mix bowl and had a pretty filling lunch. the chicken was actually very tender and yummy– they leave the skin on — as it should be. sushi was sushiboy like. service was hasty but they were nice. Small, nice seating area. Good monthly deals if u want cheap sushi.
