As someone who lives in the area, I’ve been to Wellman’s for numerous occasions. When you turn 21, coming here for Birthday Thursday is a must! Now that I’m a year or two older, I love their Wednesday night trivia night with all you can eat wings. Although make sure you get there EXTREMELY early. We arrived 40 minutes before trivia and had to wait that long to get a big enough table for 6.

I got to the place and the service was good. Right now its Soccer season. SOCCERSEASON! There is the American Cup thats being played in US and Euro Cup 2016(that only happens once every four years) And I asked to the manager, can you guys put the soccer game on your TV? Being a Mexican place they should be OK with it. But he looked at me with an awkward face and looked around to a couple of customers they had(that wouldn’t even care about having soccer on the TV, cause again, ITS A «MEXICAN» PLACE, you expect to have a mexican culture and environment when you decide to go to that place) and said«I don’t think thats a good idea, not with this crowd».(They had a couple senior folks and a family group, Thats it! Not like it matters) I responded kinda serious«really? Why not? This is supposed to be a Mexican place.» Even though they have outside their building«Modern Mexican» I don’t think that guy has knowledge of how Hispanic culture is. They should call it «COPYINGMEXICANFOODBUTWEHAVENOTHINGOFMEXICANCULTUREATALL». Shame on that place!

Stopped in after youth baseball game with 28 people, around 3 pm knowing the place was large enough and great variety of food. Our service was fantastic and quick for our size. Note, no kids menu but pizza did the trick

Service was great, but the smoking next to the patio completely ruined the atmosphere. The«gate» aka black picket fence next to the patio is the designated area for smokers – hence there is less than 5 feet between tables and 30 smokers. While I understand they have a right to ruin their lungs, the constant blowing of smoke ruined my meal.

We stopped in over the weekend while running an errand for a family member, Glad I did, I had one of the best tuna steak sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. The Cajun Tuna Stack, it was killer! A huge piece of tuna on a roll with a spicy sauce, lettuce, and tomato. Perfectly cooked and kudos to the chef! The wife had a club and it looked delicious. The turkey was real, not the processed stuff you normally see. Both sandwiches were accompanied by Sweet Potato fries and they would have been much better if they would have showed up warm, they were cold and limp, we were sitting on the patio and they would have cooled off soon anyway and we weren’t starved. They were served with a cinnamon and brown sugar aoli which was to sweet for my liking. Over all great patio and outside upper deck. Both full when we were there, I really love a great patio and this is a gem. The one draw back on our visit was very few staff getting drinks for tables. We sat on the patio and it seemed only one sever was out there. She was great and didn’t miss anything on our orders, but seemed over worked and a bit stressed. The tables all lacked flatware and napkins most tables were sharing what they had with each other. For all I know someone didn’t show for their shift. It wouldn’t stop me form going back I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. It’s a great west-side version of a downtown pub.

Great food and drinks. Family atmosphere until about 9, then it becomes a younger club crowd with loud music. I’ve had some bad experiences with their management which leads to my bad review. One time the doorman told me the hat I was wearing was fine, 2 minutes later their bouncer grabbed me, and basically dragged me out without saying anything besides«you can’t wear a hat in here». I attempted to follow up with management the next day and they blew me off. Apparently hats are allowed if they are not flat billed and not backwards? Weird how they make such a big deal about that. 2 stars and not 1 because their patio is the best in west Des Moines.

This place was very nice looking and in a newer area. We were told that the roof was open seating but had the same services. We decided to try the rooftop seating. The server was actually the bartender. There was not an actual server. My wife ordered the five cheese macaroni, and I got the Woodbury burger. It took some time to get service and our food. However, you could tell the guy was doing the best he could with what he had to work with. The food was great. My wife stole some of my fries and said they were the best she had ever had. It definitely hit the spot. However, we couldn’t help to feel bad for the bartender.

I loved this place. We went to the new one out near Jordan Creek Mall. We were able to sit outside, the drinks were fun, I had some form of a moscow mule — peach I think. We ordered an appetizer, cheese sticks, and these weren’t your average out of the box cheese sticks. You could tell they were handmade, and you get a good portion for your money. I’d definitely recommend this place. I’d love to go to the original location too — I bet its an even better atmosphere as it sits in a neighborhood.

Came here for lunch. Great open space. Mixture of booths and higher pub tables for dining. They do have outdoor patios for nice days. There is an upper floor that is open I believe for drinks in the evenings and weekends. They were having a bad day with computers being down so our food didn’t come out until 45 minutes so we had to inhale our lunch. Food is average and their lettuce was literally still frozen in their salads and burgers. Hurt your teeth cold. We had a good waitress and it was out of her control of slow service that day. Would only come back for drinks but not food.

I have been here a number of times and it is always good. Today was the first brunch I’ve eaten here. Not great. Brunch 101. Have decent coffee. There were 7 in our group, the place wasn’t busy at all and two of our group had there coffee delivered in glasses, «because they ran short of cups.» What they delivered was brown water that you could read a newspaper through. I attached a picture. Most of my group got the breakfast burrito which was rated a decent. I had the chicken and waffles. Chicken, awesome. Eggs, perfect. Waffles, simultaneously burned on the edges AND cold. In short: Lunch and dinner, go. Brunch, no.

Me and my husband have been here several times(just moved to the area) and I love it! We’ve never had the food, but even on an incredibly busy Friday night, even though the bar was swamped they were still very prompt, very kind, and gave all around awesome service. Love Wellmans and plan to continue to give them my business!

Came here for some drinks. This a very nice sports bar, with many big screens and LED ticker with sports information that runs along the back wall behind the bar. Service was efficient despite it being packed. Clientele here tends to run a bit on the young side, as most appear to be college age, so if you don’t like louder environments this might not be for you. The patio area is large and has many tables as well as an outdoor bar for summertime. I did not check out the rooftop, as that was closed, but will definitely do so when the weather allows for it.

Went there for Happy Hour to celebrate some of our friends’ birthdays on a Friday. The atmosphere is a laid back sports bar. There are TVs EVERYWHERE so if you want to watch basically any game that’s on or you want to watch all your fantasy football players at the same time then it seems like a good place to be. The hostess was friendly and sat me at a long table while I waited for my friends. It took a little while until a waitress actually came up to me and I asked her what the happy hour drink specials were and she said«Basically everything is $ 1 off» while she rushed away so I just ordered a beer. My drink did come pretty quickly though. After more friends showed up we decided that we needed another table so we asked if we could sit at the tables along the side wall and the waitress didn’t seem happy about it. She didn’t come back for quite some time so a few of us had to go to the bar to get our drinks and then I noticed the ACTUAL drink specials on the chalkboard wall which I’m surprised she didn’t tell me about in the first place. You would think when someone asks for the drink specials she would just direct them to the wall. After about 15 – 20 min a different waitress came over to our group and told us that now she would be our waitress because ours was overwhelmed with her other tables… We were glad they switched because Isla was a lot more attentive and friendlier than our first waitress. We ordered some appetizers to munch on — spinach dip, nachos and buffalo shrimp. The spinach Dip was good, the nachos were great(make sure to ask for sour cream and salsa because it doesn’t come out with it, at least both our orders didn’t) and the Buffalo shrimp was tasty. I know the draw is the rooftop but since we were there on a cold winter day I can’t give an opinion on that so I’d be back to check that out on a nicer day. I would hang out here with a few friends for drinks and watching games but the wait staff is a hit or miss so far.

Unlimited mimosas or bloody Mary’s for $ 12 until 2 pm. Lots of TVs to watch sports on. Chicken and waffles were solid. Ordered a hash brown/biscuits and gravy dish. Really good portions, but my dish was WAY too salty, including both the hash part and the biscuits and gravy. I ordered eggs over medium, but they came out over done; our waitress was really kind and was able to get my eggs done correctly the second time. I dont know if I’d go back for the brunch food(again, too salty), but if you are in the mood for unlimited mimosas/bloody Mary’s and watching sports, I’d recommend you give it a shot. If you are going to eat brunch, try the chicken and waffles.

Good service, great atmosphere. The food is regular bar food, but the environment adds to the allure. I wish we would’ve come when it was warm outside to enjoy the beautiful patio. I would visit here again. –1st visit(3pm on a Friday)

This was the third place I ate at while visiting a friend in Des Moines. We came here because my friend wanted to go to a trivia night, which Wellman’s offers on Wednesday nights. The trivia was actually pretty good, but the guy putting it on was so unorganized that it started nearly 45 minutes late. Wellman’s Pub and Rooftop is your very average sports bar. There are TVs hanging from just about every square inch of the ceiling, so if you’re into watching five games simultaneously, this is probably the place for you. Maybe I was just unlucky the night I went there, but the other patrons were kind of sleazy. I don’t like to get hit on by tipsy middle-aged men, but I found it happening in this family-friendly restaurant. Our server was alright, but she checked in on us way too many times when we were obviously not going to order more food. The worst part by far was the meal. I ordered the margherita flatbread. It was truly a disgrace to all pizza worldwide. You might look at the photo I took and wonder, «Where’s the crust?» I promise you it is there. It’s just beneath a terrible sauce, a half-inch of disgusting mozzarella cheese, and some mealy tomatoes. Don’t get me wrong, I ate it all because I was past voracious hunger at this point, but I literally gagged during some of the last bites. Later, during trivia, I ordered one of the sweetest white wines — the house white — that I have ever had. It wasn’t terrible, but definitely not worth what I paid for it. If I went again, which I don’t plan on, I would definitely not order any food. I might order a drink and stay for trivia, but that’s it.

I thought that this bar was a nice place. It has a ton of screens, which makes it a perfect game day destination. They have lots of beers on tap. On a Friday night it was not too crowded but there were plenty of people both upstairs and downstairs. We ordered our initial drinks at the bar. Someone asked if we wanted drinks as soon as we walked in. A waitress came to the table we settled at and asked us if we needed anything. They were playing good music. The place was clean and cool. There was no dive bar vibe at all, but rather it was a decent sports bar.
