I recently stayed at the Inn(which I LOVED) and ate at the restaurant a few times. There is something very special happening in this restaurant. The décor is quaint and lovely. The chef, Kyle, is doing creative, inventive, tasty food that you would expect from a high end restaurant in a big city, not a town with no stoplight. Each dish he brought me came with care, precision, and love. You can taste his excitement for cooking in his cuisine. Being a vegan, I don’t expect much when I travel to small towns, but I was blown away at the fresh, tasty cuisine! If it’s warm, snag a table outside for sunset. It’s really delightful! Definitely put this place on your must try list!

Loved the West Dover Inn. We stayed here for the first part of Our honeymoon in Vermont and had a great time. The South Suite was a great room with a fireplace and we even had a private terrace off the back of the inn. The tavern was absolutely delicious — we were totally blown away by how great the food was. Then, after hanging out and chatting with folks at the bar, we realized we were talking to the chef. Overall a great place to stay, and will be back for some more fall fun soon.

The food is always tasty, the music great, and atmosphere friendly. A nice option for a casual dinner. Be sure to plan ahead during the ski season as they get busy!

Great atmosphere, food excellent, servers nice… What’s not to like? Great place, have been here a number of times, and always pleased. I had salmon on a plank, my wife had the catfish tacos. We had some apps and dessert, all really enjoyable.

The only reason this place has any good reviews is because the owner asks friends to write them. I go to Dover on the weekends with my family and can assure you that is the worst restaurant/bar in the area. There is no room at the bar for more than a couple or two. The own ears attitude is the customer is always wrong if criticize

The duck is really done well here. It’s a fun place & if if it’s busy at Mount Snow you will need a reservation. Great Bön homie, lots of locals and great service. Great for apre ski drinks. Generous portions.

Went here for Apre Ski and it was amazing! I had the best cucumber lime drink I’ve ever had. It was delicious. They had $ 1 shrimp, oysters, and little necks— all of which were super tasty. It was very casual and they had a pretty good band playing there.

I kind of feel bad giving 2 stars because although service was horrendously slow, the people were nice. I expected much more given the numerous glowing reviews from Unilocal and TripAdvisor, but this place is nothing to write home about. After waiting half an hour to be seated, we ordered right away, hoping to get our food quickly and leave. However, it took another 30 minutes for our appetizer to arrive(5 honey barbecue wings), and another 25 minutes for our entrees to come out(fish and chips and tenderloin sandwich). Ugh, only the wings were worth our money. The fish and chips were not the beautifully golden fried pieces of goodness I was imagining. What came out were 2 big flat pieces of oily tastelessness. The tenderloin sandwich wasn’t much better and came with way too much blue cheese. Maybe we ordered the 2 items on the menu that were incredibly terrible, but I just could not understand why people like this place so much. Also, drinks were pricey, ranging from $ 12 – 14. No thanks. If you have all the time in the world to waste and want to eat mediocre food, then come here. Otherwise, save your money and go elsewhere.

Lovely place — very charming. We came here on a Saturday night for an 830 dinner reservation, party of 4. Dress attire — casual dress, meaning nice jeans and a sweater, a casual dress, Etc. We arrived at 8 pm and sat at the bar to listen to the live music(very nice touch) as we waited. We decided to order a bottle of Light Horse, Pino Noir($ 27)and enjoyed it very much. We were seated in a timely matter and were waited on by Kristy, who was extremely kind and eager to do a great job. I found her to be a great server, and her positive attitude very refreshing! We decided to start with the cheese platter, which was excellent. I chose to order the duck, which was very good but a little more crispy than I am used to. However I would order again. My fiancé ordered the pork, which he was impartial to surprisingly. We heard it was a great dish, so we may have caught the chef on an off minute. The other couple we were with ordered the steak tips, which were excellent. Overall, definitely would visit again. Lovely establishment, food, ambiance, and service.

I can’t get over this quaint, cozy, bustling, and damn delicious place. We were only here for a night so we wanted to make our dinner count, and the host of this restaurant was so gracious he gave us the most realistic waiting time without all the fussing about with pagers and such. It was my friend’s birthday so he seated us near the live musician and everything and lit us an extra candle — the whole shebang! We can NOT forget their warm bread with the maple butter, it was to die for! Truly to die for! Our entrees were also super memorable, and we cried for a moment and held hands across the table thanking our maker for bringing us to this tavern, this table, to this excellent meal because that’s how transcendental this dining experience was for us! We were surrounded by boisterous chit-chat from the bar — who served me the best Mojita(Beefeater gin Mojito, so strong so good), and it was warm and we could hear the roaring fire, and then came my Half Roasted Duck with Potato Purée, Seasonal vegetables, and plum tea sauce. It says that it’s the best duck dinner within a 4 mile drive, psssshh, it’s the best duck in the US period! The plum tea sauce wasn’t too sweet and complemented the well seasoned potato purée and the beautifully roasted duck. Extremely well-balanced dish, I have been spoiled for regular food quite honestly. We also got the fried chicken and waffle special of the night with baby home-grown brussel sprouts which came with their homemade maple syrup which was just… OHMYFUCKINGGOD. Tears, so many tears just reminiscing about that amazing meal. Best brussel sprouts I have ever had. The bitterness was countered by a light vingery glaze, they were fresh and not rigid and fibrous, accompanied the robust waffle(there was magic in that waffle) quite well! They even brought us chocolate mousse on the house with a candle and all for my friend’s birthday, it was incredibly sweet!

Came to this restaurant excited tonight but had an extremely disappointing experience. We ordered an appetizer, one burger, and the duck entrée. The burger, requested medium, was not only well done but also burned. The duck, supposedly«the best duck within 40 miles driving distance» was overcooked beyond expression, seriously as hard as cardboard — the dish was sent back to the kitchen because it was simply unacceptable. This place is not worth the hype.

Vermont charm in every way! We were greeted by Cliff and he made sure it was a special evening. Thanks, Cliff! The dinner special, fried chicken over a Belgian waffle with Brussel Sprouts and a maple bourbon sauce, was delicious. Our martinis were not so bad either. I had a Kettle One dirty and my wife had the chocolate. We will make sure we visit again!

Salmon honey seared Excellent. Steak tips excellent. Bread with the maple butter was mouth watering delicious. Chocolate mousse cup fantastic! Chocolate Sundae very good. On a busy Monday night we heard a very talented guitar playing singer who played James Taylor songs, Eagle songs, America songs, Simon & Garfunkle, Cats in the Cradle, man is HE is very talented! You want to sing along. What a Wonderful night! And we met the owner and he was so kind. He remodeled the bar area and opened it up and it looks pretty good. He was very friendly and the servers were awesome. Wish they were closer to NC!

In on a Saturday night after doing the tough mudder at Mt. Snow. Great ambience and a warm cozy feel. We sat in the bar area which was perfect for us and the live music was just the right level to be enjoyed while still able to have a table conversation. Really nice craft beer selection served in mason jars(see picture) and good attentive service despite being very busy. Started with the soup which was a corn/bacon chowder and was just excellent. Wings to split as an app which were cooked just right and very solid. Salmon BLT for a main which was a nice BLT twist and tasted very good(and fresh). Our group stuck to pub fare(burgers et al) and everyone enjoyed their meal and dining experience thoroughly. The menu does have a lot to offer beyond the pub fare we ordered, which I would definitely go back to try based on our experience and the many other favorable Unilocal reviews.

What makes an Inn great is its ability to comfort you and West Dover Inn does that well. I’ve visited a couple of times but this was my first since the renovation of the bar/restaurant and I was blown away by how great it looks. I kicked off my stay with dinner in the Tavern and was thrilled to learn that they have a raw bar. I’ve been wanting to try oysters so my party and I ordered 2 each as well as a sampling of other appetizers such as the buffalo wings and crab cake. I loved everything! I’ve been drooling over those appetizers ever since. I followed this up with the grass fed burger which was generously portioned. The chef also sent over an order of fried oysters so I really got a crash course that weekend and now all I want to eat are fried oysters. Whiled we noshed a singer belted out classic tunes and helped to create a fun atmosphere. My friends and I stayed in a recently renovated room which comfortably fit four of us and had a beautiful, big bathroom! I always know that I’m going to enjoy my stay here and yet every time my expectations are exceeded. It is obvious that a lot of hardwork and dedication has gone into every inch of the establishment and it truly shows. I will be returning at the end of May and I really can’t wait. It truly is a special place and a worthwhile visit no matter the time of year.

Quite the servings! I came in here hungry and reaaaaaally wanted to tear through most of the menu. Steak, fish, duck, burgers, apps, entrees… It was really tough deciding on what to order. Snagged some wings(it was the Superbowl!) which had a nice buffalo sauce, but also were spiced well to give em a little kick. The bacon and arugula chowder was solid. Could’ve been a bit better with more smokey bacon taste in the broth, but still delish! there were solid beers on tap and cocktails were a good pour with everything served in mason jars. Our server was attentive in brining us food/menus/filling water/getting the check. Bartender was also friendly when we walked in. The place looks very cool(recently renovated) and I would love to come back on my next visit to VT!

First off, have to offer this great restaurant a lot of gratitude for being so understanding and patient when two members of our party were ~45 minutes late and we had to sit waiting for them through the dinner rush. Nearly all of the food was excellent, easily justifying the slightly higher prices, especially the addictive pumpkin bisque and spectacular salmon entrée. The only disappointment was a super-thick, not-super-flavorful hunk of cheesecake that my dad ordered at the end of the our meal, which seemed devoid of the caramel promised by its name on the menu. Aside from the lame dessert, I give four stars rather than five based on the high, uncomfortable seats. While we loved the dinner, we left with sore calves(granted, we sat for longer than most probably would)!

We’re currently staying in the West Dover Inn, and so we decided to eat at the 1846 since it’s obviously right here. Great choice. First of all, the Inn is fantastic. Well kept, clean and nice room. Cosy living area, and super friendly staff. The meal was just as great as the room is. I had the steak medallions, and my girlfriend had the Shepard’s pie. We both loved it, stuffed our faces until it hurt, and still managed to sit around until we could order the lava cake which was worth every penny. The food and drinks are a little on the pricey side, but worth it, especially if you’re staying at the Inn here. Our service was excellent! The server was both funny and friendly, and we had a great experience. Should we find ourselves back in Dover, we’ll be stopping by here again, I’m sure.
