We’ve had lots of donuts from California to New England. Without a doubt, these are the best. The chocolate frosted glazed… buttercream filled… jelly(cinnamon topped, plain or powdered)…chocolate glazed with caramel. Forget about it. Worth any drive if you’re in the area.

Dirty place. They waste a lot with the use of paper plates. Found a hair on my sandwich. Would never return after that. Sad b/c the coffee is good and the pastries seem nice.

«A neighborhood staple» for as long as this old foodie can remember. Plain and simple. I have been here countless times for ALL of the following: Fresh donuts, pastries, cakes, torts, & breads. A foodie staple to begin a meal & polish it off with a plump smile of pleasure. The tables are filled with the regulars, most referred to by the staff with a first name. Now that’s hometown. Despite the treats you can also pull up to a table, a coffee, tea, or fountain soda while you wait for a delicious sandwich on fresh marble rye or a Kaiser roll and a cup of soup. Then, enjoy a treats in at you table or takeout for later. A gem of the Elmwood neighborhood of West Hartford.

This is a great spot to go to for donuts and parties. They’re always fresh, not to sweet, and are at a great price. I’m a big fan of the donuts. They’re much larger than what you would get at chain restaurants, and they also have a lot more substance to them. The staff is always friendly and patient!

It’s hard for bakeries to do much wrong for me. I love anything baked and anything sweet. I went in here for the first time when my friend dragged me in here because he wanted a doughnut. So obviously, I got a cake roll because it looked oh-so-delicious. And it was! Did I feel like I was going to go into a diabetic coma after eating it? Yes. But the coma would’ve been worth it. The pastry shop had a variety of baked goods – from doughnuts to macarons to loaves of bread! The interior of the pastry shop is very so-so. It’s nothing fancy, but there is sufficient seating. My one wish is that they have pitcher of water(the only water available was bottled for purchase). The service was also very good. The counter was staffed with high school aged girls, but they were all very friendly and provided good and efficient service. Overall, I am a fan and will definitely be back when I am craving some good baked goods.

I tried a pistachio macaroon and it was very stale and old tasting not fresh. But ok that’s not a typical bakery item… So then I decided to go for a cupcake. At first glance it looks like a cupcake a non professional would make with a box cake at home. Nothing really impressive or fancy in the looks department. The taste? That’s always the most important to me. It wasn’t bad but just ok. Wasn’t dry but wasn’t super moist either and the cashier told me they were just recently made. The frosting was very gritty and tasted just like the canned frosting bought at the grocery store. The cupcake tasted like a box cake. Hey I don’t have a problem with box cake but at $ 3.00 a cupcake and at an actual bakery I would like a higher quality.

A couple of days ago I had the privilege of seeing one of the 8 wonders of the world: the Niagara Falls. If that was the 8th wonder, this place is the 9th… as in I WONDERHOWONGOD’S GREENEARTHTHISPLACEHASSOMANYSTARS! First off the girl behind the counter was all acting like her ish don’t stank, sighing and just looking like she wanted us out of the store asap. Trust me lady, if I had been able to sample some of your pastries I would have been out of there so fast it would have made your head spin. The éclair: sucked, the fruit tart: sucked, the cannoli: sucked. All of the filling tasted the same– like some crappy grocery store vanilla pudding pumped into some dry different shaped bread. Do yourself a favor and go next door to Rita’s. Now that’s the spot.

This is my new favorite place to get a donut in West Hartford. The coffee was great too.

Best cinnamon old fashioned donuts but get there early. Good birthday cakes. Swedish limpa bread is awesome. Good lunches too. Wish I lived closer!

My new go to bakery. I first went here and ordered a cherry danish and iced coffee. So good! Have since ordered a carrot cake for father’s day and it was one of the best we’ve had. Quaint setting with no frills, but smells divine when you walk in. Love supporting small businesses, especially in Elmwood.

I used to work here and it food is Okay. Richard, the owner and my former Boss, was honestly the best person to work with and I learn a lot from him! The donuts are made fresh to a T every morning and the way he did it was the best. The store on the other hand is very dirty and needs to be renovated. Also, I had a really bad experience with one of the bakers, Richard’s Son, because he was so rude and made all the teenagers there feel as if they were worthless and respected no one. Besides that, Elmwood has decent food for a quick bite to eat and stop by and say Hi to Richard for me someone, I haven’t seen him in Years!

The only reason this amazing place with such delicious pastries and breads is getting two stars is solely because of an employee’s poor attitude. My fiancée and I have been coming here for a few years and we love it. So naturally we know my family would love some treats from here, so we went one morning to get some pastries to being to my brother and sister in law in NYC. The employee at the counter who served us looked annoyed that they had to serve us. Their shirt said«it’s our job to be sweet to you» — they were the furthest thing from sweet, their attitude was sour. All we wanted was a dozen donuts and each request for a different kind or question came with a sigh and borderline eye roll. If I’m going to be treated as if I’m a burden to have to serve while I give you my money, then I will not give you my money. Maybe in a few months we’ll come back. We left with a sour taste in our mouth due to sour service. This is a wonderful place, just needs an attitude adjustment.

I don’t know how I went so long living in West Hartford without going to this place! A great, old fashioned bakery. Some of the best fresh donuts I’ve had in Connecticut. I can’t wait to go back for breads, desserts and more.

Elmwood Bakery. I’ve been going here since I was in diapers. It’s not much to look at inside but they’ve got«the stuff». «The stuff» is a variety of things but for me it’s amazing, uncomplicated, fresh donuts. I’m particularly a fan of the cinnamon, sugar raised donut. It is spectacular and it’s the kind of donut that you can really only find at a place like Elmwood Bakery. They also have: sandwiches, cakes, turnovers, cupcakes, breakfast sandwiches, breads, and super friendly, service. If you need a specific reason to go there and it’s not for the awesome donuts, slip in there while there’s a line across the street at Goldbergs. It’ll be your little secret, you eating your breakfast sandwich while you see college kids streaming out of the bagel joint a-waiting on their order.

I was in the area and I stopped in looking for a sweet treat to bring to girls’ night last week. There were groups of ladies and gents having coffee and gabbing, and you could tell they were«regulars». I mulled over the pastry cases for a solid ten minutes… there was so much to choose from. Pies, fruit tarts, cheesecakes, regular cakes, cookies, cupcakes, eclairs, etc… sweets overload! I ended up ordering 4 apple turnovers, 2 pumpkin sugar cookies, and 1 chocolate chip cookie. My total somewhere in the vicinity of $ 14.00. The sugar cookies were $ 1.75 a piece! I thought that was very expensive. I can’t speak for the cookies, as I didn’t try them, but the apple turnovers were tasty. We heated them in the oven and they were ooey and gooey delicious. If I were in the area I’d stop by, but I don’t see myself driving from Wethersfield to be a regular here.

Best pastry shop in town!!! Family owned and run for generations. Everything is baked fresh and delicious. My favorite is the large-ring Raspberry Danish. I bring one to work ever now and then for my staff and it’s always a hit. They have great sandwich lunch specials. Definitely worth checking out!

Seriously, how did I not know about the donuts here? No, SERIOUSLY. I have lived in West Hartford for almost 20 years, and it took me this long to figure out that fresh, big, fluffy, homemade donuts are available not 10 minutes from where I live, at a charming local bakery? WHATISWRONGWITHME? That’s almost 20 years wasted on Dunkin’ Donuts. This is what Unilocal is for, people… use my sad story as a cautionary tale.

I was recommended by my director at work. Clearly one of the best choices I have made regarding donuts. I came in for two dozen donuts and I will say I am not buying from franchises ever again! Freshly made everyday and they taste fantastic! As a matter of fact two dozen amazing donuts here cost less than your local franchise. Highly recommend! Great staff! Certainly gained themselves a new and returning customer!

I went there briefly a few weeks ago on a Sunday morning. Of course, I had a coupon for a free loaf of Italian bread. With my notorious sweet tooth, I had to pick up something sweet. I asked the teenage worker her recommendation and she told me to get the lemon roll. Glad I asked her because she picked a winner. Unfortunately, the Italian bread was so-so; dry and plain. I’ve had better Italian breads baked by Stop & Shop. Since it was free, I wasn’t upset about my disappointment. Elmwood Pastry Shop was very busy when I visited. The teenagers behind the counter were very nice. I am looking forward to coming back and trying some more baked goods.
