I came here 1 time and it was dead as ever during the summer time. I ordered the big platter and ended up getting sick off of it. The platter wasn’t even worth the money I paid for it.

I can care less about the décor… The food is terrific. It’s excellent and the portions are much better than other places in the area including Jimmies! Oh and the scallops at Turks are not minced unlike Jimmies next door. They are the real deal at Turks and quite tasty! I couldn’t find one reason to complain about the food.

Went here for the first time the other day with some friends. The food was pretty good. We got burgers that were nice and juicy. The fries were crunchy, but not overly so. The staff was very friendly and polite. Great location, beautiful area.

An all-around good experience. My first time here and I was thoroughly pleased. Vivian, our waitress, was magnificent. She was attentive and friendly, and everything that we ordered was delicious. My family and I stuck to the lobster rolls and fried seafood, and we had no trouble eating ourselves into gluttony. Thanks for a good time! We will be back for sure!

I’ve never had a bad experience at Turks in over twenty years. This place will give you excellent quality fried seafood etc. I used to bring my girlfriend here and she loved it as well… Ill be going there tonight because out of all of the places i could choose to grab dinner at tonight in the greater New Haven and West Haven areas i know i will get great seafood and won’t be hungry when i go to this establishment. I highly recommend Turks.

Good fried seafood. Not fancy… huge portions, great place to enjoy soft shell crab and the seaside.

Let me start by saying that I realize Turks could have used a total remodel about 20 years ago. It’s dated, but generally clean. So if you’re looking for somewhere fancy for a date on a Saturday night, this is probably not it. If however, you’re looking for some great food, give it a shot. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, usually for lunch on the self-service side of the restaurant. I’ve tried a lot of their food. Though I tend to stay on the unhealthy side of it, so I can’t comment on anything baked/broiled/boiled/etc. I can say that they have great fried seafood, especially the scallops. The burgers and hotdogs are likewise top-notch, though be sure to ask for the hotdogs well done. Fried mozz is also a winner. And they have some of my favorite fries. They’re definitely freshly hand-cut, and they’re a bit sweet, which I like. When I have sat on the full serv side, the wait staff have always been pleasant and attentive. They’ve all been there forever, and honestly, the place isn’t usually full enough for them to get overwhelmed. I tend to grade mostly on food quality and staff performance, with little emphasis on décor(unless it’s the kind of place I would need to dress up for). And obviously the scale is adjusted based on cost. For the price and food quality, Turks is 4.5+ stars.

Turk’s gets a bad rap. Yes, they may need to revamp a bit but I wouldn’t stop going to the place for that reason… The food is consistently good. Who doesn’t remember getting their food served in a paper boat or car as a kid? I love a simple burger and fries. Lots of ketchup. to go enjoy on the beach… even though you need to fight off a seagull or two…

I never ever understand when places I love have bad reviews. Maybe you really just can’t please everyone. I remember coming here when I was super young, with my grandma and family. And I remember loving their food then. Fast forward 14 years and I still love it! The mozzarella sticks are to die for! I’m pretty much a mozzarella stick junkie and these are by far my favorite. They are HUGE. My boyfriend likes their soup and fried clam strips! The fries are great and they aren’t the generic fries you always get at restaurants(so double points). The staff is friendly and the service is quick!

This place has been marked the worst place to eat in the state of CT. We had the lobster roll, it was dry overcooked lobster on a tasteless roll. The best part was the butter. The stuffed mushrooms were stuffed with things that they found on the kitchen floor, I don’t even know what the heck was in there, but it was not edible. The lobster bisque had flavor, but it didn’t taste anything like lobster bisque, it was more like creamed tomato soup with a couple of pieces of lobster thrown in there. The place smells like the last time someone cleaned it was about 1977. Don’t waste your time and money going there. I do not eat meat, but I would have rather had a burger from McDonalds.

The best fried shrimp I ever had! Patty is the best server! You have to give this place a try. 5 stars.

AVOID this one at all costs !!! Run down, dirty, bad atmosphere, and way overpriced for what you get. Seafood is rolled in egg wash and flour PERIOD. No seasoning and not cooked properly. Poor service. MOSTOFALL, the owner is one of the meanest men I’ve ever met. He’s cheap too and for those reasons I won’t line his pocket. There are better places to go, believe me.

I am from Chicago but have a good friend from West Haven. Every time I have visited I have gone to Turks multiple times per trip. I can’t get enough of the place, I wish Turks were in Chi-Town. Anyone that says anything bad about Turks in my presence risks a ninja chop to the throat.

So, Turk’s… You know, say what you want about it being old and run-down, but the fact is, sometimes old and run-down is awesome. Yes, the place hasn’t been redecorated since about 1954. Yes, the veggies I got were basically served right out of the plastic bag they were frozen in. And yes, my buddy and I only ate a couple of split hot dogs, a lobster roll, and some fries. But you know what? It was great. The fries there are, no doubt, frozen, but cooked just right and are golden brown and crispy. Add in a couple of West Haven style split hot dogs and for $ 7 you have a winner. My friend was also happy with his lobster roll. Adding to the charm of this place is the menu. It’s almost incomprehensible. I think we saw about 3 or 4 menu items listed in different places on the menu without anything distinguishing what made one different from the other, and all at different prices. It was like a cult-classic B-movie that is so bad it’s good. Even better were the place mats. They were printed in 1974! They didn’t give us any crayons to color with, though… Minus one star for that! Seriously, Turk’s has not changed over the years. It’s exactly how I remember it from my childhood. For some of you this may be looked upon as good, for some of you, not so much. But complain as you might, there’s something to be said for a place that offers no pretense. It’s honestly worth checking out, just so you can be like, «Wow… places like this do still exist…»

Okay, so I think that Turk’s rounds out the evil trifecta of vomit-inducing«seafood» restaurants in West Haven, CT.(along with Chick’s and the scourge of scourges: Jimmie’s) I don’t get it frankly, you would think the competition would elevate the quality, but really, it’s not the case… at all. It was a Friday night, and it was just me and my pal… and an older couple. And yet, service took forever. I’m not sherlock holmes, but something tells me this place is none too popular. The place smelled funky, a bit like rotting grapes, or to be more accurate – nursing home… yeah, it definitely smelled like old people. And the roof of the place is really ridiculous, it’s like a church steeple, kinda like IHOP, but darker and more funereal. As for the food, really, it was unremarkable. Then again, I tried to play it safe and had a burger and fries(the truth is BK lounge is better). Ultimately though, Turk’s was old, run-down, and sad. I won’t be coming back.
