Five Stars! This is a must have place for any pizza lover! From the homemade sausage to meatballs to the best clam pizza ever!

I have been going to Zuppardi’s for years. As good as any place in Wooster Square and much easier to get a table. It is well worth a try!

This is a terrific pizza place! Probably one of the best pizzas that I ever tried! Way better than Pepe’s(which many rave about.). I went mid-day so parking didn’t seem to be an issue for my friend. I am so glad I was finally able to try Zuppardi’s! Everyone has told me wonderful things about it but I never had a chance to go until today. What a treat!!! The sausage pizza was incredible! I cannot wait to go back and taste other pizzas — like the whole clam pie. Yum

Anyone from West Haven or even CT who has had their heavenly pizza knows they’re the best around and probably even in the state. Some would argue best in NE(I would). Always amazing, fresh, fast and the family is sweet as pie

Was at The Hops Company in Derby a couple weeks ago and had the pizza from Zuppardi’s pizza truck. The sausage and mushroom pizza was really good and had a nice thin crust. So, thinking about where to go tonight, we decided on their main restaurant in W Haven. The place was busy but still plenty of off-street parking. I started with a small Caesar salad and a glass of Chianti. Both kinda basic, nothing spectacular. We ordered a large bacon onion pizza. When the pizza arrived it looked and smelled good. However I quickly realized the bacon was only partially cooked, the fat wasn’t rendered down. When we told the waitress it didn’t seem cooked enough, she said that is how they prepare it but offered to make another pizza saying it would be more on the well-done side if we wanted the bacon to be more cooked. Because we didn’t want to wait, we decided to keep the pizza. It was good but the mouth feel of fat was less appetizing. We took the majority of it home so that when we reheat it, we can cook the bacon down. This was the first pizzeria where I believe the bacon wasn’t cooked enough. That has become my go to pizza over the last several years. If that is how they prepare it, I doubt I would order it again from them. I would give the pizza truck a 5 and this pizza a 3.

We wanted to go here because we recently tried their pizza truck at The Hops Company in Derby. We had a sausage and mushroom from the pizza truck that was excellent. This place is in a neighborhood in West Haven and looks like it has been there forever. Very busy when we walked in so that was a good sign. We both started with Chianti and salads. I had the Gorgonzola salad, that consisted of iceberg lettuce with onions, olives, and tomatoes. It was topped with the cheese and a strong balsamic dressing. Good strong flavor but wish it was more than just plain iceberg. My other half had the Caesar salad and said it tasted basic. We ordered a bacon and onion pie, this seems to be the pie that we judge good pizza on. When it came I was so disappointed, the bacon looked very under-cooked. All squiggly and fatty looking, it did not look like good quality bacon, mostly fat. We asked if it could be put back into the oven for a few minutes but they said they could not but would make us another one but that the crust would be well done and the bacon would still not be cooked all way. We both like well done crust but not under-cooked bacon. Disappointed, we kept it and I just picked the bacon off. When I make bacon and onion pizza at home I partially cook the bacon and cut off the big pieces of fat before it goes onto the pizza. We have never had a bacon and onion pizza like this before, the bacon is usually cooked and almost crispy. They could have cut the bacon in smaller pieces too and maybe that would have cooked it more. Might go back again but not for a bacon and onion pizza.

Solid quality pizza… A wonderful family owned pizza restaurant with proud history. This pizzeria has a tough crowd to compete with in the area, but it truly holds its own amidst the world class pizzerias only a few miles away. This place seems to truly appreciate your patronage and works hard to show it! You can learn even more about them on Travel Channel’s show«Food Paradise.» Their reputation is well earned!

Stopped in for a weekday lunch in a rush. Typical looking pizza takeout joint on the inside but was surprised they do waitress service. Friendly waitress got me in and out quickly. The only do «pies and salads», no sandwiches or grinders. I was very happy with the pizza, came out in 8 minutes and was excellent thin crust. I will definitely stop back when I am in the area again.

Always in for some Zuppardi’s. One of the those pizza places you suggest and tell people about nestled away in West Haven. Right up there w the New Haven heavy hitters. Staff is nice and efficient. They also have amazing cannolies and and other various Italian pastries. And Italian ice that my girlfriend and I go to eat from time to time.

You either love it or hate it. It’s apparent from the reviews here. I have eaten here on several occasions. While I love the pizza, I find that it depends on who I am with on whether or not they like it. Zuppardi’s is your classic New Haven /New York style thin crust. It’s slightly more greasy than it’s New Haven competitors and some folks find that it’s too much for them. I say bring on the grease. I would suggest a pepperoni and sausage. Order the large even if it’s too much for you. I always like to eat my leftovers cold. Sometimes I think it tastes better that way.

This is the BEST pizza in New England, hands down! My favorite is called«The Fresh,» and it lives up to its name. Fresh mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, fresh basil: you can see and taste each ingredient! You can tell it’s indeed fresh mozzarella by the warmth and creaminess you can only get with fresh made. You can’t beat it! You feel healthy eating it because of the superb ingredients. You can tell this is a family establishment, because they make everything in house(even the canoli’s), and they make you feel like family. I definitely recommend this place!

It’s my favorite pizza by far in CT. I’ve been to Pepes quite a few times and Modern but I really liked Zuppardis!

Fortunate and proud to have grown up eating Zuppardi’s pizza. Great pizza and service as always. They’re always crazy busy, yet manage to remain polite and composed on the phone and when picking up.

Being from Long Island and knowing a lil bit about pizza. I set up a pizza tour in the new haven area. This place is located in west haven and has been family owned and operated for over 80 years . Greeted by the chipper tattooed family member she lead me in the right direction as for what to order. Went with ½ fresh clam no mozzarella — ½ traditional pie with mozzarella Peeking into the back i was able to see that all the pies are cooked in bakers pride oven . Our pie came out with an amazing charred gritty crust and my first bite into the fresh clam slice, how am I going to compare this to the 5 other places I’m going to visit. I’m not it stands alone ! No reason to stand on line on Wooster street when you can stroll into this Union avenue establishment and leave full and wanting more . Your coming here for the pizza not to be wined and dined. Old school feel and look and well worth putting 179 union ave, west haven, CT6516 in your GPS . I left satisfied with leftovers, pizza box, shirt and menu . Thanks for starting off our day with delight . Two thumbs up if I had more you would get another . They have added a pizza truck to the mix as well have them cater your next event !

So, this is decent pizza. Infinitely better than Domino’s, but certainly not the best in the area. The service was quick and we didn’t have to fight for a table, which was awesome. So why the four stars? This is the best clam pizza I’ve ever had. Fresh shucked clams drop their umami stock, making for a slightly wet slice, but the flavor is incredible. Take my advice if you opt for the clams; make it a white pie, and skip the cheese.

I’m giving three stars because this is my Mothers favorite pizza place! She loves the neighborhood feel and killer homemade sausage Apizza they serve. While I agree it’s very yummy pizza, and I don’t even like thin crust! Their prices are without exaggeration INSANELY over-priced! It’s dough with sauce and cheese, costs so little to make and I feel they really gouge their customers. One pizza is close to $ 30 with two toppings? Cmon folks!

25 years ago, my parents took me to Zuppardis for the first time, sat down, and were never acknowledged. They walked out after 20 minutes without service, as I was two years old and getting irritable. They swore never to go back. We recently moved to West Haven and I convinced them to give this place another shot because I had heard rave reviews about the pizza. We ordered takeout. While the pizza was good, this establishment fell short on two points. Number 1: we ordered a white pie, but once my father got home with the pie, we saw that it was red. We called and the girl confirmed that the order said«white», and to come back and they would give us the white pie. My father drove back to pick up the correct pizza. He was not offered any compensation for the inconvenience besides a simple«sorry». They took the other«mistake» pizza and didn’t offer a coupon, refund, or anything for the inconvenience. This is simply bad business. Number 2, it is quite expensive. The Caesar salad was chintzy – for $ 14 we got barely a head of lettuce and Kraft quality dressing. A complete ripoff. Needless to say, we won’t be back. We are very disappointed and will have to try other places around the area.

Because pizza is our favorite food, we thought it crucial that we add Zuppardi’s ballyhooed clam pie to our repertoire. Late on a Sunday afternoon, we were surprised to find the joint in West Haven empty. Was something amiss? We didn’t mind, it’s better than braving the line at Pepe’s. We ordered the clam pie and our sweet server recommended the sausage. We ordered that, too, and a plain for no good reason except to compare. The plain was plain, the sausage is fantastic(chunks of it, freshly housemade and cooked directly on the pie makes all the difference), but oh, the clam. Redolent of garlic, with plump, juicy bivalves studding a thin, slightly charred crust, this is one remarkable pie. A bit of clam broth and olive oil soaks into the crust, adding even more clam flavor. Just a squeeze of lemon completes this memorable feast. Pizza heaven. Call ahead to make sure the clam pie is available. Price varies depending on the availability of fresh clams; on our visit a large pie was $ 40. Good to know: Zuppardi’s has a Pizza Truck for catering and parties.

Finally got the chance to order a Zuppardi’s pizza today. Went with a small sausage & mushroom — it was tasty, toppings were excellent, and the crust was chewy, not dry at all. I like this pizza a lot more than the«typical New Haven style» pizza(just don’t like that charred New Haven stuff). Would certainly order from them again, I’d like to try the Italian ices. Zuppardi’s Apizza is a strong 4 Star, IMO. Friendly service also.

This is my favorite«CT style» clam pizza, pretty sure it is unique to the area, and for our family it means only Fresh Shucked Clam Pie(white) Many are surprised to find out it does not contain cheese, just freshly shucked clams, spices and oil which seep into the dough metamorphasizing it into a unique flavor and textural experience. The classic pies also are very good, but they top«The Big Three» with that bodacious bivalve beauty. You’ll rarely encounter the lines as at other 2⁄3 but the pizza is absolutely worth the trip, even from out of town. These institutions of family owned pizzerias maintaining original product are a dying breed and it is quite lovely to sit down and enjoy their time tested mastery of craft. Looks like an old school pizza joint because it is, and God bless them for it! If you’re into soda: they carry Foxon Park, and have frozen pizzas for take away, but za like bagels = best hot and fresh :-)
