I have become addicted to Marc’s one abs class at Crunch — which has been turned into a TRX class (more on that later) — because not only does he teach the best abs class there or anywhere else — his class works! I am an abs freak, not because I have a six-​pack — i don’t! though i do work at my abs — from the Bar Method, Pure Barre, Billy Blanks DVDs, to Colin-​at-​Crunch (sorry, Colin)…to Mat and Pilates-​on-​speed contraptions… nothing works.
But Marc compels (okay, forces, cajoles, dares, bullies… anything that works) his students into exercises that actually recruit the muscles that «capture» one’s stomach muscles and makes them flatter. You actually feel you are wearing a girdle after his class for days afterward! His routines on the big inflatable ball recruit each muscle group from every side (I don’t know the technical terms for these.) His standard «crunch» is done on the ball, sometimes with a weight and then at an angle where you really it… sometimes with your feet up on a wall. His (infernal but effective) series of planks and pikes with the ball are crazily challenging — and effective. Some of his exercises are in positions one never thought possible. On ball, feet on wall, leaning back, hands in the air… There are probably sequencings he has planned because, unlike most «ab» classes, his class works! And every class is different. Sometimes he uses big rubber bands for obliques… every class is different.
Marc only teaches (or taught) one abs class a week at Crunch, at 5 in the afternoons on Wednesdays — and I would plan my week around them — because if I missed a few in a row, my belly would pop out again! Now the class is TRX (quite effective) with some core work at the end — planks using the straps. But I miss the big balls! (Not that his aren’t present lol) I hope he’s able to do his old class again because his abs class is not taught anywhere else — on DVDs or You Tube — and the sustained 45 minute class really creates results! (Maybe he could teach two classes at Crunch?)
If I could afford one-​on-​one personal training sessions with Marc, I would take them. Marc really is charming underneath his drill sergeant persona! I envy his clients on Unilocal who have posted here!

I found Marc through a friend and signed up for one-​on-​one personal training… we meet several times each week at Workout Warehouse in West Hollywood and I have to say he’s one of the best trainers I’ve worked with (and I’ve had several). Here are the main reasons I recommend him to anyone:
1. Marc was formerly a drill instructor in the South African army… crazy eh?! So he’s tough and motivating and doesn’t let me get away with any shit, but he also is paying close attention to where I’m at and how I’m doing during a session, so he can push me right to the point that it’s difficult but not impossible. Which means I get to have accomplishments during the workout that make me feel great. And of course I’m already seeing results after a few months. (And don’t let me give you the wrong impression– Marc is charming and lovely to be around. He just is a no-b.s. trainer, which I like a lot. I’m not working out with a trainer to chit-​chat with my new best friend, I’m there to work my ass off and sweat and create a better body. Marc is a PRO at helping me accomplish those goals.)
2. Marc talks a lot about diet, which is so important. Marc asks me what I’ve been eating. Marc holds me accountable. Marc gave me a good eating plan that I’ve been sticking to. When I have to travel for work, Marc and I come up with a plan for how I’ll be eating and exercising while I’m away. Diet is SO important and yet few trainers I’ve had in the past care this much or go into this level of detail. I love that and I know that Marc’s guidance with nutrition is one of the reasons I’m losing my gut and becoming more fit.
3. When I’m not in the gym, Marc has me hiking Runyon Canyon. (We talked about what would be ideal for me and Runyon is near my place so that’s what we decided.) He has me take a photo at the top and text it to him to show him that I made it. He asks me to time the hike (from gate to gate) and then I am working on beating my time. It’s great. I love having goals!
4. And finally, Marc’s workouts are ALWAYS different. Seriously, it’s been dozens of sessions now with Marc and we’ve never done the same thing twice. Today we did something called «pikes» by using the TRX bands (that hang from the ceiling) and it was crazy and hard and new and cool and kept me interested. I can get bored during a workout VERY easily and I told Marc that from the first time I met him. He has done a perfect job keeping me «in the game» by always keeping me on my toes and mixing up the routine. We do interesting supersets, he introduces new exercises all the time, there are lots of plyometrics (using my own body weight) in addition to using free weights and machines, etc. This alone is SO much nicer than past trainers where it’s like «ok it’s legs day, we’ll start on the squat machine, let’s see how much weight you had last time, ok here we go again» etc. Unpredictable workouts = my brain stays engaged and focused = my muscles are kept wondering what’s next, too = a better workout and better results.
Overall, as you can tell, I’m very happy with Marc and my results. He is really one of the best.

For the past three years, I have been working out by myself. I started with Marc 3 months ago and the result is unbelievable. He is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated. I am seeing result so fast that I can not believe. I also take classes with him at Equinox. I never miss them since they are the best. If you are looking for a high end trainer look no further.

Marc is by far one of the most knowledgeable and competent individuals in the fitness arena. Not only that, Marc is genuinely passionate about what he does. He is truly invested in the success of his students and it shows.
